Yes, that is the late Lou Rawls as "the colon doctor" in a dream on My Wife and Kids, where he breaks into song.

Probably more than a few on this site with COLON cancer growing NOW.

I've had this painless procedure and absolutely endorse it. I was knocked out and never felt ANYTHING.

Worst part is drinking gallon of lousy tasting liquid beforehand, and staying close to a toilet............

Best part is NOT needless DIEING from Colon Cancer....

I've had it done also Chuck. My experience was the same, painless and over with before you know it. The worst part... well yes, is the solution drinking and the bathroom visits. It's so worth having it done.

Add me to the list of lucky recipients of said procedure...

Docs thought I might've had polyps (sp?) but didn't find anything.

I was knocked out as well, so my only "emotional trauma" of the procedure was the previously mentioned less-than-pleasant pre-treatment festivities. I'd sooner whack myself in the kneecap with a ballpeen hammer than drink that phospha-soda concoction again. Whoever came up with that stuff is truly demented.

Funny, but a little unrealistic.. He would be "doped" up before the "insertion".. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif

I recently took my father for his first one of these and he is 63 years old.. It was funny to watch him after the procedure being under the anisthetics.. I got to sit with him immediatley after it was over and he was so "doped up" he kept asking me the same questions over and over.. Of course I drove him home and sat with him for about the next 4 hours until he was back to normal..

While sitting w/my father in the recovery room area there was another gentleman who was probably around 50 yoa that the anisthetics took another kind of effect to.. This guy was hilarious, he was immediately up and walking around after his procedure. He walked over to the nurse's station and was winking at them and even said "hey baby whats going on". The nurses started laughing and one immediately got up and escorted him back into the wheelchair he was sitting in waiting for his son to pick him up. When his son arrived and he was being pushed out of the room this guy started yelling "all right lets burn some rubber".. This was very funny!! Of course my Dad did not remember it...

I just had it done, and I am only 41. Piece of cake that could save your life!

I will ditto eveyone's comments who has had one. My sister who is head Nurse in a Endo/Colonoscopy unit of a major hosptial forced me by gun point (well almost) 15 years ago for one. Saved my life -- been getting one every two years since - seems I keep on growing those bad boys. -- If your at that 40 Mark and love your family and life -- ITS A MUST DO -- !!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

Re: how to enjoy a colonoscopy

Rule of thumb (No pun intended) up here is to have one every 5 years starting at age 50. The most uncomfortable part of the whole process, as already mentioned, is the two hours on the can preping for the procedure.

Re: how to enjoy a colonoscopy

DO NOT keep you head stuck up your ass on this procedure https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif First off.....you can take the pills instead of the liquid. I did. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif 4 of them, every 15 minutes w/ 8oz. of WATER!! Wait 1 hr; 4 more every 15 minutes. DONE.
Glad I did it. 2 pre-cancerous polyps. SNIP-DONE for 3 more year till the next one. GLAD I DID IT. It's a no-brainer folks.

Re: how to enjoy a colonoscopy

I doubt that there is any medical procedure that I would look forward to, but I had my first polyp found and removed in '87, and have been back every 4 or 5 years since.
There is no reason for any sane person to fear or put off having this procedure, but then again, people still refuse to quit smoking. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

Re: how to enjoy a colonoscopy

I agree with what everyone has said, it's not that bad
- My Dad died at 58 with Colon Cancer - I had one 4 years ago and I'm scheduled for another in a few months.
Drinking that liquid kinda gives you the same results as 1/2 case of Bud's and 2 dozen hot wings!

An e-mail I received regarding the same -

Colonoscopies

TOO FUNNY - THE LAST ONE IS THE BEST

Colonoscopies are no joke, but these comments during the exam were quite humorous..... A physician claimed that the following are actual comments made by his patients (predominately male) while he was performing their colonoscopies:

1. "Take it easy, Doc. You're boldly going where no man has gone before!

2. "Find Amelia Earhart yet?"

3. "Can you hear me NOW?"

4. "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"

5. "You know, in Arkansas, we're now legally married."

6. "Any sign of the trapped miners, Chief?"

7. "You put your left hand in, you take your left hand out..."

8. "Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!"

9. "If your hand doesn't fit, you must quit!

10. "Hey Doc, let me know if you find my dignity."

11. "You used to be an executive at Enron, didn't you?"

12. "God, now I know why I am not gay."

And the best one of all..

13. "Could you write a note for my wife saying that my head is not up there?"

Re: how to enjoy a colonoscopy

im 46 and had the first one 3 years ago. they took out 4 benign polyps. went back 4 weeks ago they took out 4 more. 3 benign and 1 according to the test results and the doc would have been a problem down the line. i will be returning every 2 years for the rest of my life.like someone else said if you love your family and your life run there and get it done. if not then dont. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif
