National Impala Convention July 27th-Aug1st
Just to let everyone know, I just received the official package for the convention. It will be in Indy and will include a drag day at the track. The NIA is for Full Size Chevys '58-'70. There will be invited Z-11s and Nostalgia 409s, as well as many big brute MK-IV big cars.
Their web site isn't updated yet with info but here it is anyway. http://www.nationalimpala.com/ I plan on bringing a blue '62 out there and will be staying with a friend before and after the convention in a little town in the middle of IL called Philo (about 2 hours from Indy) so if anyone wants to pop by and visit let me know. Hopefully some of you big car guys might want to join the fun at Indy. Contact me for now if you want more specific info on the convention. Re: National Impala Convention July 27th-Aug1st
Well, the blue '62 didn't get done in time, but I had a borrowed car to race. Great convention, and I have many photos to share as soon as I can get them all sorted and put in a link. Stay tuned!
I managed to meet Mark Webster and see his super '65 Biscayne. (He passed along your greeting Ken). I also did manage to have some luck and took the overall eliminator at the drags. (first time I drove that car). https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...imeTrialsm.jpg |

Well, here goes. I've never uploaded an album before, so I hope this works.
Enjoy! Verne http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...rantz/IndyNIA/ |
Re: National Impala Convention July 27th-Aug1st
Here's a vid of the final run. The heat got to the motor and it vapor locked at the top of 2nd & 3rd. I thought all was lost but the other '64 ran out by .017, so I got the win light. IT's nice to be lucky.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

I'd like to share the pics with you but I need help. I could do each one individually, but there are 40 of them. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif |
Re: National Impala Convention July 27th-Aug1st
Here's another vid Hank asked me to take of his pass in the Z-11. His was the only Z-11 in attendance, even though others were invited.

Verne, I got into the photos but I typed password rather than copy & paste. I always like to hear the wicked Z-11's. One of the best sounding cars ever.

I hope everyone else can do the same. Yes, Hank's car has the right headers and that crisp note. Actually, all hi-po "W"s had a distinct sound, but Hank's is special https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |
Re: National Impala Convention July 27th-Aug1st
Here's a vid of Tom Payne's L-79 drag car that he's just completed. He's fallen in love with it and plans to sell the '64. I've tried to talk him out of it, but this car runs low 13s already and it's not near dialed in yet. This was taken at his restored 1930s shop back in ILL after the convention.
Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif [image]http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...h_0afc72ae.jpg[/image] That's original paint and interior on that puppy! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif Oh, and I didn't mention the 1930 restored center post floor lift to go with it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...z/1376b76f.jpg He enjoys his hobby.............and is one of the greatest guys on earth. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Re: National Impala Convention July 27th-Aug1st
------I think two cars pictured were at Meadowbrook on Sunday in the concours. Ronnies old racer and that beautiful black 61. Both were a sight to behold. Did that 64 you were driving have a silver gut??? One of my favorite combos! And did you mention it might be for sale??? Thanks for the pics. It looks like you guys had a bunch of fun..........Bill S

Re: National Impala Convention July 27th-Aug1st
Bill, Both of his silver '64 Super Sports have the silver interiors. Pretty rare and really beautiful. He also has another '64 SS that was originally silver on black, but it's been repainted black. That one is slated for sale as well. These are all "future plans", as none are for sale now, but if you're interested in contacting him, I'll give you the info privately.
Yes, we had a ton of fun. Jody arranged for some terrific prizes for the drags. The eliminator win got me Pit Pal's new 25th anniv alum trailor door rack (which I gave to Tom because I don't have a trailor OR room on my shop wall), the best reaction time got me a certificate for a billit Pertronics distributor and for the most runs I received the "Z-11 of creepers" from Jegs. Tom's silver '64 "driver" received a 2nd place People's choice. That's the car I drove back & forth to the convention from his place and it's as sweet as they come. Full of options and cold A/C. The photos above of the 2 cars together were when they were arranged for a photo session for a feature article on the pair in the NIA magazine.
