The only documentation I have is a Fisher body card from under the seat. It has M-20 on it. I have a record of the last owners back to the 90's with all the names and numbers of the previous owners and the guy who took out the L-79 when the rod went thru the block.

That is such a shame for the block. That would be one to restore for sure! Wooo, 327 350hp with some 4spd action and 373's. Litem up!

Jed, those 1968 L79's were rated 325hp...they had a cast iron intake and QJ carb...the 1966 version had the aluminum hi-rise and small Holley. It was still a screamer....lots of guys put solid cams in them, added the hi-rise and Holley, headers, 4.10 gear and ate those 396 Chevelles for lunch....very cool cars...almost bought one a couple of years ago...Jeff has it now I believe...

GM did like to underrate the motors. But those were the changes from 67 to 68 as far as the L-79 was concerned? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif They had the same compression ratio and the same .447 lift cam. The horsepower was printed at a different rpm range from 67 to 68. 5800rpm in 67 down to 5600rpm in 68. Looks like they started the insurance blindfold early? Those L79's must have screamed! Anyone have any 307's laying around? Gives me and idea....Thanks for the info Tom and I thought you were just a BB guy. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif I think that we need to start a Nova shoot out. What would Wayne say?

i'm purty sure my '68 L79 4 speed Chevelle had a Carter carb, iron intake, and 151 cam... and the HD clutch option...

I believe a 68 L79 chevelle had a Q-Jet.

Re: 68 Nova 327 L-79 4 Speed 3:73 Posi

According to Colvin's book the 68 Chevy 2 and Chevelle with L79 327/325hp used a Rochester built QJ part #7028229.

I believe all the internal parts were the same as the old 66 L79....only difference was intake/carb.

These cars almost like a "early" version of the Deuce...hi horse small block and HD setup. They are definately cool...hope somebody brings one to the Nats this year...Jeff???

Grecian Green L-79 nova is still getting the body work done and wont be ready this summer. The L-79 can hang with those 70 LT-1's. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Jeff, I wish I had the extra monies to haul that beauty from Nashville down to Huntsville... I got a call yesterday asking if I was bidding. Timing is off just a little for me.... I started to ask you about selling last year when I saw it at your shop, guess I should have after all... Nice solid 68. I found a 3914678 engine last week in Paducah,KY in a stack of old engines but wasn't able to get the suffix code or date from it. Again... bad timing https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

Nice piece for someone no doubt..
Jeff, where does the 1274 production come from also can you tell us how many '68 L79's are in the registry now?.
And are there any known built and/or existing '68 Acadian L79's?.

There is 10 68 L-79s in the registry and I have to call from a guy today in CO that has one with docs. Not very many considering there was 1200 built. I think they are so unknown until recently that most people didnt know what they had except it was fast!
