69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
Guys , any thoughts on the $140 and $165 values for COPO Chevelle's right now? I dont know these cars but apparently they were good, (rumours about 1 being rebodied but the other was supposedly a no story car). Is this the price range for COPO Chevelles ? The $140 being the clm shift auto and the $165 being the 4 sp. Any private deals at this level ? Curious on your thoughts : Bob

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
The frost green one that was rumored about being rebodied was not. That car came from the Chicago area and was restored by Fred Nolan. When it was restored it was very nice but I believe that was in the early 90s.

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
I think you will find that the Fred Nolan car came from British Columbia and has GM of Canada documentation.
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
John's right, there is another Canadian COPO that has been rebodied and is Frost Green.
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
Is that one a 4 speed Mark?
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
I can't remember as it has been a few years since I have seen it, but another member PM'd me last night and said that it was...

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
Fred Nolan's old COPO was one of the best I had ever seen once he was done restoring the car. All NOS parts. The color combo doesn't carry a premium and the fact that it was column shift always kept the price down.
I didn't have a chance to look at the car, but was told that a bunch of NOS parts had been pirated off the car since Fred first sold/finished it. |

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
No Kiddin eh ?? Why the Hell would you do that to a COPO Chevelle
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
Perhaps the parts went on a more desireable COPO to boost its value.
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
Most likely just stripped to be sold separately...

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
My thoughts exactly

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson

For those that are interested ....here is the other Fathom Green C.O.P.O. Sold for $165K
I know Albert would be interested.... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010716.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010717.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010718.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010719.jpg It`s obvious that this C.O.P.O. has many more re-pop parts than the Frost Green C.O.P.O. No smog, no seat buttons, missing a lot of small clips and hardware.... yet brings more money than the Frost Green due to color and column shift. Don`t mean to pick it apart....I just think the Frost Green C.O.P.O. is a much better car. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010720.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010722.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010723.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010721.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010725.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010724.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010726.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010727.jpg Dan. |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
The selling dealer for that car should be Mander Chev Olds, as Dick Irwin bought the dealership in the early to mid 70's. I worked for Dick Irwin.
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
I had a 70 Cutlass that was sold new at "Mander". I believe GM Canada docs would show the successor dealership if the docs were obtained during the time Dick irwin operated the franchise. Its been known as Carter Chevrolet since 1998.
I believe Irwin took over from Mander in 1972. |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
What colour are the other Canadian ones that are accounted for?
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
To set the story straight:
Dick Irwin purchased the Mander dealership in (approx.) January of 1969. This 4-speed COPO Chevelle was ordered by Mander in October of '68 and delivered to Irwin in August '69. The new staff at Irwin were not even aware of what this car was and it was sold as a non-SS 396-375 HP. |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
Pete Simpson would probably be the best guy to ask,He has alot of info on them.
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
I know of a Garnet Red one,and so does Pete as it was Sold in London.
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
I have at least 25 imported Canadian Copo Chevelles listed. At least 1/2 of them have been accounted for. The colors include Frost Green, Daytona yellow, Lemans blue, Fathom green, Garnet red, Cortez Silver and Burgandy.

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
The guy that first told us about the COPO option, told us that 18 were ordered for Canada, 5 were cancelled due to the long wait. Obviously there were a lot more than 13. Another guy claims to have information on 29 of the 30 that came into Canada. Who knows. Beare Motors sold two cortez silver Chevelles and one monaco orange.

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
Dan: any chance anyone got any trim tag shots on either of the green COPO Chevelles?
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
Damn...didn't even occur to me... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
Yea, that woulda been nice.
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
I've heard of a few - - Orange cars as well and a White One with Red interior, which belongs to a Club Member.
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
Great shots Dan! Looks to me like there still were a lot of nice NOS parts on that frost green COPO! Here are a couple of additional shots I took...

a few red flags I see
rear antenna not listed on window sticker and a few underhood details don't look right. whats up with the tail pipes how could anyone not get 69 SS396/427COPO tail pipes right?..69 factory chrome tips almost poke you in the eyes. minor fixes but makes the red flags go up. overall looks ok for the money if it has good paper |
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
It's a Canadian car, so the paperwork should be good.
|
Re: 69 COPO Chevelle's @ Barrett Jackson
As Stefano said , seems about right , considering clm shift and not a great colour on one, and possibly to many re-pop parts on another ??
