Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
$63k for a Turbo T/A? Yikes, even with 7k miles. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/ooo.gif

Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
i'm doing the fantasy bid thing and went over on the Truck Trike by $500 and over on the T-bird by $1,000. so basically i'm screwed in the points because you dont get any for going over! trying to win a 26" flat screen!!!

Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
I just bid on the old Chev coupe, we'll see what happens.
Good luck, as I am leaving for Vac Thursday night and won't see most of the auction. |

Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
PRICES ARE INSANE TODAY.. If this holds up friday and sat will set records.. pretty sure its just the inexperined buyers paying crazy money today though..

Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
P.S. the T/A was a very nice car and I wanted it I thought it was a 25k car and told myself Id even pay 30k boy was I wrong!!
|
Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
TA was a very low mile car but cars were bringing great money for what they were.

The guys who wanted these cars when they were young and could not afford are now stepping up to the plate because Now they have the money and now they are going to get what they wanted years ago. You are right the 301 Turbo was challanged with a less than great turbo oiling system that caused early turbo failure, and overall ran mid 17's all day. I drove two seperate 301T T/A cars that my friend had new. Both were so slow... by comparison my 2bbl 383 '67 Chrysler Newport would stay right with either at WOT. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif |

Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
Kasey...I didn't see the final price but there was a corvair wagon that I think I saw at about 8K before I got sidetracked and didn't see it end. I thought it was strong money for about a 64 wagon.

Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
There was a red 1979 TA, 400, 4 speed (desirable) w/ 300 miles that sold on ebay a few months ago. I think it went for mid 30's. I had a '79 403 auto in 1979. Kept it for 3 months - total POS. I alway thought the '79 400, 4 speed was considered the last "desirable" TA. It is to me anyway. $63k for a 301 turbo is shocking. I am so priced out of this hobby.

Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
Un-verified, but I have heard that in Vegas the casinos put "plants" at slot machines in high-traffic areas that win a lot...
I know nothing more than those cars were about the worst GM F-Bodies ever built; they are total crap, no performance, rattletraps with tacky decals. I don't care if it had 7K miles on it, whomever bought it either wanted their 20 seconds of fame, or won the Powerball. Any early Turbo T/A or Formula is a candidate for worst car ever, and viable evidence of approximately when GM de-railed. |

Seriously though at 70k with juice that's about 3X what that car would normally bring. For the same coin you could have a 10th annie W72 4spd with similar mileage AND a Y84! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
Some guy I knew had one of those Turbo T/A's. What a turd.
|
Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
A good friend of mine has a 81 TA SE 301 non turbo.....neat car but guttless..I remember a quote from a mag back then that said Pontiac managed to turbo charge a V-8 and still couldn't find horsepower... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
Well I have had experience with those 301 turbo's and not only were they turds, but the turbo would not last 50K miles. The only way a turbo T/A is worth 63K is if it has 62K cash in the trunk!
|
Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
it doesnt really matter what the fellow paid, it was his money. the car was immaculate and beautiful, coupled with the fact it is in the most desired color combination. if this car ran 14's from the factory we would be wondering why it went so cheap.
|
Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
sounds like some fresh meat got bid by the bidding bug.
|
Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
This kind of thing kills me because I wanted a '79 TA. I always liked the looks and thought a 400, 4 speed might be a great low cost entry into the muscle car hobby. Now everyone that owns one is going to think it's worth $60k.

Of course I don't know the condition of the ones at BJ, that would make a difference. Hope you, and the other guys are having a great time. Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
I like most of the 70's Birds and T/A's but the front end on that 80 is https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif and the turbo motor is another https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif so I was really surprised to see it climb that high. I was thinking prices might be up because the real estate market is down and the stock market is down. Fri and Sat could be interesting.

Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
I had one of the Recaro Turbo TA's I picked up in the late 80's. The girl https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif that had it was on her 2nd motor and 4th turbo. I pulled the 301 and shoved a 327 with ported heads and threw a modified turbo on it from Texas Turbos. Now that puppy would run!!!!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

I went to the Haggerty Insurance party and in the parking lot was a Yenko Deuce. Either Gobi or yellow. I didn't get close to check though and it was dark.

Re: Barrett-Jackson 2008.....
That 1970 Nova L78 #'s matching GM of Canada car seemed to be a good buy at $50K. The automatic probably hurt the potential value on the car.
