Yenko Dealership license plate frame

Hey all,
Was wondering if Yenko in '69 put a license plate frame on all of his cars in '69 advertising his dealership? So if he did - if I went in there in'69 and bought a '69 Camaro SS350 car would it have gotten a Yenko Hi-Performance plate frame?
Yes stupid question but was just wondering.

There was a "chance" you could have got one, but believe that not even all the 427 cars got them when sold new. I don't think there were a ton of them made originally. Another one of those promotional pieces Don had made and passed out/used sparingly here or there. But to answer the question, yes, I think it would have been possible to get one without buying a 427 car...some people were handed one without buying anything, and some people bought 427 cars and didn't get one. My dad swears in '69 he and a few college buddies drove down to Yenko from Pittsburgh to check out the cars and were given Yenko plate frames... he also said there wasn't much of anything "cool" on the lot at the time and no supercars to be seen anywhere. He's not sure of the exact time in 69 they were there though...I guess he didn't know he'd have a son that would question him on the details of the visit 35+ years later. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

Real "Yenko" plate frames are very rare today amongst the flood of repo's. And yes there is a difference....BKH

Joe, Thank you for your answer. I'm from Pennsylvania and I have a mint condition '69 license plate with '69 sticker and also a '69 window inspection sticker. So thought it would look cool to keep the Pennsylvania theme going with a repo Yenko plate frame. Even though it's a '69 350 4-speed car it's a lot of fun.

Brian, any insight to the differences between the originals and the repops today?

Here's an NOS original, still sealed in the plastic "Shasta" bag. Compare the overall frame design as well as the lettering style and you'll see the difference. I don't think anyone has ever made an "exact repro" of anything!

Yep! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif That's the repro is on the front of my truck - full of chips & scratches, as well as plenty of bug guts!

I know you do, and I'm jealous! Mine's pretty beat up, but it's one of my favorite frames too... not sure what year it came out for sure though.

Here's another odd one... picked it up at the Washington Township swap meet... probably one of the neatest things I ever got there. I think the "High-Performance" lettering was added by the owner, as I've seen the same frame that says "Route 19" on top, yet the letters are as old and weather beaten as the rest of the frame... maybe Yenko "modified" a few for some special cars, or maybe someone just thought it would be cool to turn a mundane frame into something cooler...I know I've yet to see another one in this style with the "High Performance" lettering on top... All I know for sure is I dig it.

Don gave me that plate frame as well in 1981 during the Turbo Z days. The off white version was about the same time. The one I have does not say Hi-performance though. I remember when you picked that one up at WT.....BKH

Love that Hi-po white one....very cool! I wish my dealer plate was from 67-69, it's not. It's from 64 I think..Don used some cheepo square nuts to hold the thing together...LOL..I have a few of the Black plastic frames also. Top and bottom plate mount....any guess to the year? Don't forget the Yenko Porsche-Audi frames... I gotta get my computer fixed so I can download pics... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif

Re: Yenko Dealership license plate frame

I don't have a Porsche-Audi frame... I think that's about the only style I'm missing. The black plastic ones with the refective Yenko sticker and "Preferred Customer" was used for many years...throughout the 80s and into the early 90's i think, Yenko Honda continued using them until the chrome plated plastic ones come out. I used to have a stack of the reflective stickers used on the black frames but either lost most of them or stuck 'em on stuff that looked like it needed to be emblazoned with the word "Yenko". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif There are 2 versions of the plastic chrome ones too. I always wondered if Yenko Honda intentionally omitted the word "Honda" from the "preferred customer" ones so they'd look cool on anything... probably not, but they do! I have one on just about every car/truck I've ever owned. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
