Whould Canda be any better

Question would Canada be a better place to live I mean I am really getting sick of all the B/s here in the united states schools getting shot up big business ripping the common person off heath care and the list goes on and on I think the story of the missing hiker was the final last straw for me this is so sad and never should have happen I am getting so sick of all the political B/s right now as far as I am concern they are all bone heads that does not have the interest of the little guy https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif
You just don’t not hear problem that we have hear in Canada I know it might be colder but is it more peaceful with out all of the b&s we have here

Come on up we are looking for good people. We do pay fairly high taxes but we can go to any hospital in the country for no charge health care.We are sometimes colder up here but I live in Ontario and it is 60 degrees today at 9 in the morning. Not bad at all.

Re: Whould Canda be any better

There are 1 million Americans living up here so I would imagine that a few of them had the same thoughts as you.

I believe that wherever you live in Canada or The States, you pay for the lifestyle in some way. Up here, taxes are a bit higher than most states (not all) and the cold in January - Febuary can be hell. As a teenager, I hated winter but now I'd never live somewhere that didn't have the 4 seasons. Vancouver, British Columbia has warmer winters but you have to be able to handle 2 weeks of straight rain at a time.

Florida is warm but you have to worry about getting your house wiped out every couple of years, mid-west is Tornado alley, California has earthquakes and fires.

Healthcare is more accessible here than in The States but not necessarily quicker. Prescription drugs is by far cheaper. You are getting screwed by the same companies we buy our drugs from. It's been recently reported that drug companies spend twice as much on promotion and advertising as they do on R&D which throws their whole argument for the high costs out the window.

Honestly, what I think you need is a government that is more in tune with Americans than a government that does whatever the F*#$% it wants to.

Don't think twice about it Norm...pack the truck and granny's rocker and hit the road!.
Like Ronnie Hawkins and Conway Twitty said "Canada's the promised land!".
Although things are different in the larger citys, many small Canadian towns are still much like the good ol' days!.
Seriously, I thank God each and everyday I am where I am and for being able to raise my kids in as much of the old world as still exists!.

You guys should have moved 5 years ago when the dollar was worth $1.35 Canuck. Now the greenback won't even buy you a Loonie. Not the right time to move.

Re: Whould Canda be any better

Last year Toronto has something like 84 murders. Take the drug dealers killing each other out of the equation and things are pretty good for a city of 3+ million people. Health care here in 2006 cost slightly less than $3200 per person. Not exactly cheap, but everyone is covered at least. Where we live, north-east of Toronto, we don't get buried in lake effect snow, and we are far enough south that the winters aren't too bad. Most winter days here are in the mid to high 20s F but for the last couple of days it has been in the low 50s. Not to hard to take. Five months of winter gives you time for the car projects for next year. The only draw back to living here is that we are 500-800 miles away from many of the big Chevelle shows. Feel free to join us. I'm not going anywhere. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Well you won't be getting gas any cheaper up here I'm afraid but you should for the heck of it, call a drugstore up here to compare your wife's drug costs.

That's only in Ontario and only if you work for someone. If you have your own business or have no income, you don't have to pay a cent.

I agree. We have only had people fighting and dying for this wonderful place for a couple hundred years.... If you do leave will you round up all the others that said they were leaving 8 years ago and give them a map too. I do however hope that you and your wife find work and get some insurance soon. I know exactly how you feel. I just finished paying my enourmous hospital bills off from a couple years ago after surgery and several months out of work with no insurance. I have had to sell some things over the years I didn't really want to... Friends and family and my own hard work in my opinion are always better than letting my government wipe my butt for me. I think i'll stay here in good ol America and even better than that way down here in the good ol South. I like it just fine.
