Vintage pics, 1969 Yenko Nova
A friend sent me thses photos of a '69 Yenko Nova he owend in the early '80s. At the time, except for the hood, original sheetmetal. The bench seat had been traded out for buckets, the rear lips cut for tire clearance, and in front of the side marker lamp is a racing sticker, covering up a couple of holes (427 emblem?).
While owning it, he had the car verified by a couple of folks Here is part of the email. In the fall of 1983 I purchased a 69 Rally Green Nova (no vinyl top). Through a telephone conversation with Bill Smith who confirmed my car as being the 1st one to receive the 427 transplant. Bill stated to me that he had built my car and said he remembered it well. Bill went on to give me all the details of the transformation. Bill directed me to Yenko records holder Vince Emme. I called Vince after speaking with Bill. Vince verified my car as being the first 427 Nova and was one of two cars offered with Pwr Steering along with AM Radio. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/309...C%2769nova.jpg |

Re: Vintage pics, 1969 Yenko Nova
I went to look at this car in I believe 1984, near Granville, Ohio. The car was advertised in a regional auto trader magazine called "Roundup". The car was in "rode hard....put up wet" condition and as I remember had a '66 casting big block. I called Vince Emme and was told this was the first Yenko Nova. The story was it was a 396 car and the motor had been stolen so it was decided to put a 427 in it and the Yenko Nova concept was born. I was looking for a Copo Camaro and decided to pass. I called Carl Dwiggins who then bought the car and restored it and later sold it to a collector in South Carolina and then I heard it went to Reggie. I remember Carl telling me the guy wouldn't budge a bit off the $5500. price. This is one of my 'big fish" that got away regrets. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Hello copo69, I remember you had your heart set on a 69
Camaro. Thanks to your help the car ended up in good hands when I transferred it to Carl. |

Welcome to the site. Was I right about the year? I remember coming home and debating about buying the Nova and then deciding I really wanted a Camaro. I got the Camaro a few months later...in Ohio.

Welcome to the site!
Do we know what dealer sold this car originally? It could have been sold from Yenko, or a number of OH dealers. I recall Donna Mae telling me about an engine that was stolen from a '69 Nova. She said that they had hired a dog to patrol the lot where the cars were stored. There were paw prints on the tops of the fenders and roof of the car with the stolen engine, apparently the dog was nothing more than a curious bystander. A few weeks later, the dog was stolen. |

Re: Vintage pics, 1969 Yenko Nova
Yes COPO69 it was summer 1984. You were not the only one
that passed on the Nova. By the way I am in the process of locating and verifying the first owner of the car. I should no something within the next several weeks. Great to hear from you after all these years and thanks for helping to back up my statement of 1st 69 427 build. |
Re: Vintage pics, 1969 Yenko Nova
Hello Marlin,
The original 396/375 was stolen at White Chevrolet. Don purchased the Car as a strip out and then installed the 427 creating his first 427 69 Nova. When I found the car in the fall of 1983 it was missing the motor. I purchased a 427 short block with 12.5 to 1.00 pistons, steel crank. I installed a set of 69 dated square ports, OE solid cam along with a winters cast GM intake. I made several adjustments to the suspension before all that power connected and launched properly. I've owned several Big Block cars, from Chevelles to Camaro's even Corvettes but nothing compares to that Little old Green 69 Nova. |

Re: Vintage pics, 1969 Yenko Nova
Wow!! That is very cool history of the car. White Chevrolet was a large volume dealer in Yenko's network. Sounds like a later conversion or the prototype.

Re: Vintage pics, 1969 Yenko Nova
Dick Bridges bought the car from Carl Dwiggins in probably 1993-94 or around there. I restored the car again in probably 1995 and it sold to Reggie a few years after that. It then went to a MO collector who sold it with a bunch of other Yenko cars in the last year or so. Great pics, wish we would have had them back then.

Re: Vintage pics, 1969 Yenko Nova
Hello Micky,
We all know the story...The Big Fish that got away. Well the 69 Rallye Green Yenko Nova was mine. I found the car purely by accident through a phone conversation with a new customer. I followed up on the call and ended up with the car, a 69 DZ short block along with several 427 BB parts. And the total price was...drum roll please...3K. Regards, Bennett 69yenko427sc#1 |

I, too, had the Big fish that got away;
" but nothing compares to that Little old Green 69 Nova. " I can relate to your statement. What a sick feeling! |
