That car is really cool! One MEAN looking SOB!I would love to have something like that myself,I love those 57 Ford sedans.I hope my little 67 Dodge Dart has a stance similar to that when all finished up!I am going to radius my rear fenderwells like the 68 Hemi dart.I have a copy of the Factory template to get them correct.

Here's a thread on '55 gassers on the HAMB. Several to-die-for cars.

You're definitely not alone Glenn. Here's a couple of shots of an old racer that used to run at our strip in the late 60s/early 70s. Leroy Moss is the owner and actually bought the car new in '55. He proudly displays the original paperwork in the trunk. He converted it to a gasser in the early 70s, then retired the car just a few years later. Last year he was contacted by Bob Gibson to attend a reunion of the old 'Drag City' strip that was located just East of Springfield, IL. Leroy had such a good time reliving memories that he went home and started to work on the '55. He brought it back to Bob's gathering in September of '07 in all her original glory and delighted the crowd. Leroy's wife told us she credited this old car with giving Leroy the spark to live. (He's battling cancer,.............. and winning! ) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Cool old car.

Those front wheels look like VW? Maybe the front axle setup came out of a v-dub? What does the factory Ford model script above the door V say?

Re: '57 Ford R&C 1970

That is a wild Ford - what a great story - I hope the car and Leroy keep each other going for a long time!

It does appear to have '56 side trim. As I remember '55's had a narrow spear and narrow trim on the quarter. The '56's had the wider spear and wider quarter trim ending in that checker board design.
The model designation was on the quarter panel above the trim and a Ford crest was above the spear on all the '55 Fairlanes.
The '56's had the model designation above the spear as this one does. It looks like it may say Club Sedan, I can't think of another model name that would fit.
The only thing I remember that was definitely different between the years were the dash board and the parking lights. This car has neither.

Anyway you look at it though, that is a great car with some fantastic history.
Best of luck Leroy!!

Re: '57 Ford R&C 1970

Sorry guys, the car is in fact a '56. (Check the rear license plate.) Leroy DID buy the car in late '55 like I said and I typoed (?) '55 later in my posting.

The front wheels are early, early Ford items. Strangely, we noticed them as well and recalled they were the same as the ones on Danny Lomelino's car pictured below. We're thinking they're late 20's Ford items, but the ones on Leroy's '56 have been plated.

Yes, 1936 Ford spider wheels! Probably a dime-a-dozen back in those days.

Yep, '56 Club Sedan. That's the very same body style as my first car. But mine was no where near as cool as this one!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif
