My Favorite Musclecar
Just curious of all the Musclecars you have had over the years, what is your favorite? The choice should include looks, power, handling, value, overall quality, etc, and be limited to 60's and 70's cars or trucks of any make.
I think my 1970 Z-28 would rank up there as my top Musclecar I have owned as far as handling, power, and looks. Let's hear your opinions..... Paul |
Re: My Favorite Musclecar
The 68 Chevy II SS has been my favorite car since I was 15 when I saw my first one rotting away under a tree.... First year Nova to get the big block and is different than the other 3rd gen Novas in a lot of ways. I think the quality was good, power was great, handling... not so good with a tug boat motor up front... Value seems to be good as well. Just a cool car in a lot of ways.

Re: My Favorite Musclecar
If a vette counts, it would have to be a '63 SWC, sebring silver with a blue interior, knockoffs, and sidepipes.
Otherwise, a Yenko Deuce! Best small block GM ever offered, F41 handling package, close ratio stick, big rear gear, and few enough to be unique - if only the stripes & wheels were optional! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif |
Re: My Favorite Musclecar
I've always admired the 1970 Corvette w/LT-1 350.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Re: My Favorite Musclecar
------If we are talking about an actual car that we have owned it would be Red Alert,,,hands down!!! A low ten second ride in a four thousand pound car is just too much fun. If there is a second choice it would be my old black 69 L89 El Camino that was at fall Chevy-Vettefest. That musclecar has it all as far as I am concerned........Bill S

Re: My Favorite Musclecar
The 68-70 Chevrolet Nova is my favorite!! I had a 69 when I was 15 and all thru high school. It had a mildly built 327 with nitrous, 411 rear, turbo 350 tranny. This car kicked but and was scary! I did lots of street racing with this car. My buddy had a 72 Plymouth Scamp with a built 360 and nitrous. We worked on each others cars and would go out cruisin and terrorizing the streets on Friday and Saturday nights. We both worked at gas stations and would spend our whole paychecks on speed parts making the trip to Super Shops or Summit Racing...
We never raced each other but without a doubt we both had the fastest cars in our high school. Nobody wanted to run us with the exception of another friend that bragged about his 65 Mustang hipo-289 car, built, 4 speed. I raced him one night and my nova just went up in smoke off the line. I creamed him by about 12 car lenghts or more. I remember burying the tach at 8 grand in 1st gear and I could not get tracton until 3rd gear.. Oh the stupid things we did when we were young. I am surprised that car was never my coffin!! I now have a 70 L78 car that I love.. I have always loved these cars and body styles... Sorry to hi-jack the site here but just wanted to share/re-live my youth!!!!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif Rich |
Re: My Favorite Musclecar
Favourite I did have will always be my '70 442 Post car...not a W30 but a factory W25 hooded 2 Dr. Sedan M40...still w/ the original engine/trans when it left me!.
Favourite I always wish I had and still ask Santa for each year is a '65 L78 Vette coupe...either that or a '66 L72 is Ok too if you're reading this Santa!. ~ Pete https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: My Favorite Musclecar
Mine would be the 69-70 Big block nova's. They just have a great look and have awesome power. Plus you put some dog dish caps on there and it looks like a little grocery getter. But it has to have a four speed and be either blue or silver.

Bought my 71 Nova at 15 with McD's money. Drove it all through highschool and then some. Had a worked 307 in it, care of yours truly, that ran like a top! Had a lot of fun with that car! Mulsanne blue looked great under the flourescent street lights! Sold it for a survivor 6 banger with three speed on the column. Had a lot more fun with that car seeing that it was stick and didn't need tires every other month. Now I have a total of 4 Novas! So I have to say the 3rd gen are my fav. Up to 72 of course. Nothing like the power to weight ratio of a big horse small block!

Re: My Favorite Musclecar
My favorite (aside from my Camaro), would be my old college roommate's Royal Bobcat '69 GTO Ram Air IV. Who knew back then that Royal was something other than the local Pontiac dealer. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
When you're 18, anything that was fast was good. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif |
Re: My Favorite Musclecar
My favorite that I have owned is 70 440-6, Shaker Cuda. All hell breaks loose when the outboard carbs open up.
My favorite that I wish I had is a 69 ZL-1 Camaro in Silver. A close second would be a 69 Hemi Daytona |
Re: My Favorite Musclecar
My hands down favourite was our COPO Chevelle. Other than normal wear items, the only things I had to replace was one broken valve spring, and a water pump in close to 200K miles of driving, not all easy either. I replaced a clutch disk at about 100K miles while replacing a throwout bearing. The performance was pretty decent for its time. Before that we had a 1966 SD396 4 speed Beaumont and a '68 Ram Air automatic Firebird. Our L78 car would come in at number 4. Would love to have the Beaumont and Firebird back but they seem to have totally disappeared. Couldn't have grown up at a better time. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Re: My Favorite Musclecar
If Vettes count, it would be my '66 L72 4 sp, 4.11, knockoff, side pipe equipped coupe. Sold it in 1996 or so.
Modified musclecar would be my '67 Fairlane 500 hardtop, Wimbledon White with Seafoam Green interior, 796 hp 514" motor, C4, T bolt hood, 10 point cage, etc. Still have it. Stock type musclecar will probably be my 70 RAIV GTO, M21, 4.33, no power anything! Just bought it; will see it in person next month when I return from Iraq. Scott |
Re: My Favorite Musclecar
'66 SS396 Chevelle, fast, perfect size, high quality interior, above average build quality, popular timeless styling, great color/trim offerings, just a plain damn good car. Even the thrashed high mile one I drove as a kid had virtually no rattles and was not falling apart like a lot of the competition in the $1500-$2000 range. While rust did eventually get them, they were not rust buckets. I always thought '66 and '67 Chevelles were the next generations '55-'57 Chevy. Also, ask any old used car dealer and they will tell you they were good merchandise all thru their life...........and they still are.

Re: My Favorite Musclecar
This is pretty much how my pride and joy has looked for the last couple of years. I talked with the machine shop today and the engine should be home next week and ready to be dropped back in. Interior is ready too, I've just got to find the time to assemble everything. I bought her in 2001 and drove the old girl hard for quite a while before I decided to "make her better" which is code word for tear it apart and lock it in the garage..... If things go well, I will row through the gears all the way up North for the Nova nats in 08. I can't think of another car I would rather have than a 68. Being black with blue guts is just an added bonus https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif Though valve covers are just laying up there on the heads, they are too short and would have to have spacers. I hope to find some "real" torque thrusts for the car before long. Those old things don't just grow on trees down here....

Re: My Favorite Musclecar
Well, since this is my first muscle car, Id say its my favorite.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...parkdone-1.jpg A 63 409 Biscayne would be a close second. |
Re: My Favorite Musclecar
This is the car that started it all for me and 70 Z28's was there when my brother bought it off the showroom at Egizio Chevy in Naperville Il.
Was also there when he traded it in about 72 still remember wishing I was old enough to have that car. Still searching for a Daytona yellow 1970 Z28 http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL17/.../129578012.jpg |
Re: My Favorite Musclecar
Favorite musclecar for me; there's no such thing, I like them all.
However, I do have a soft spot for Phase III GT Corvettes, '69-70 GT500 Shelbys and 1970 Z28's. Cars I owned, or my parents owned, that I wish I had: I wish I could find the 1969 Grabber Blue w/white interior GT500 that my parents bought new towards the end of 1969. Car that I personally owned that I wish I had back would be either my Forrest Green '70 Z28 or my 1968 Camaro SS/RS 396 that I had a Lingenfelter 461 installed in. I guess my all time favorite musclecar would be the 427 Cobra though, if you consider them musclecars. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |
Re: My Favorite Musclecar
Man this is difficult. I'll have to do it by Manufacturer...
My favotite Mopar is a 71 Hemi Cuda, Plum Crazy with White guts and White billboards. I still haven't found this car but the search is sometimes better than the catch. My favorite Ford is a Raven Black 1969 Boss 429 Mustang. My favorite Shelby...some guy in Woodland, Ca. has it. My favorite Chevrolet...This is the hardest. I think the mid year vettes are the best styled car that Chevy ever made and then drop a L71 engine and add a red stinger hood to a tuxedo black-red guts car and my pants go crazy. I love the 69 Camaro as well, especially with a big block and the RS option. Paint it HO with houndstooth and steelies and I begin to drool. And last but not least the 1970 LS6 Chevelle in CS, DY, MO, TB, FB, MT, SG, CG, CR, FG, AB & BC with a 4 spd to complete a hell of a calender. |
Re: My Favorite Musclecar
My favorite muscle car was my 1970 Chevelle with a tunnel rammed 350. My favorite late model muscle car was my 1989 Iroc with a TPI 383. My favorite beater car is my 1978 Camaro. I had the 78 for almost 19 years and i will never get rid of it. It is all old school with a 1962 327, th350 and a twelve bolt rear out of a 1970 Z28 with 4.56 gears. Best time so far is [email protected].
