NHRA decal
What did the NHRA window decal look like in the 1962-66 period? I've seen one version with a single roadster and another split version with two cars, a front-engined rail on the left side and a sedan on the right.

Re: NHRA decal
Bill - try Goyda.com. He usually has some NHRA decals in stock. I can't access from this computer.

Re: NHRA decal
Thanks Sam, I'll check it out.
Glenn, why am I not surprised that you have the correct decal? Thanks! |

Re: NHRA decal
I would bet tht Glenn's is earlier than Bob's. Note that on Bob's decal, the sedan has a rear spoiler and below it says "Championship Drag Racing". I've seen both of these lately but have no clue as to the dates, etc. I still have one from around 1966 that I got at the US Nats in Indy and it does not have the spoiler on the sedan.
The older decals are much cooler than the new versions. |
Re: NHRA decal
I also noticed the "spoiler" sedan vs. the rounded-trunk sedan during my decal search. I wonder when the change took place? "Spoiler sedan" decals probably indicate a 1968-ish change (?) since cars like the Shelby Mustang and Z/28 were introducing spoilers at that time and diggers were still front-engined in '68. I did find a pair of "round-sedan" decals for the '55.

Re: NHRA decal
Bill,
Check that stash of old car magazines you have and look for NHRA ads. They should have the current decals pictured so that should be a pretty good way of telling when changes were made.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Verne |
Re: NHRA decal
DUH. Thanks Verne! You're right, I have an ideal reference source downstairs! Now I have a good reason to once again immerse myself in my old car magazines for an hour or two. I'll let you know what I find!

DUH! I knew you had them from the endless (interesting) posts you made on the vintage wheels thread. (one of my favorite threads of all time!) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Here is the original NHRA logo, as seen on early "Membership Manuals" and associated paperwork, after the NHRA was incorporated on March 8 of '51...notice the "Dedicated to Safety" wording is *above* the car:

[b]A couple variants of the above decals:
I'm not sure exactly *where* this decal falls into place...features a later FED and a coupe with a spolier...I couldn't find this logo on any of my NHRA literature https://www.yenko.net/photos/data/500/nhra3.JPG Another variant, appeared some time in the 1970s I believe... https://www.yenko.net/photos/data/500/nhra6.JPG |

[ QUOTE ]
https://www.yenko.net/photos/data/500/nhra3.JPG [/ QUOTE ] I visited the NHRA Museum in Pomona yesterday and saw no evidence of this version of the emblem. That's not to say it isn't authentic, I just didn't see one of these. I'll post my photos later today. |
Re: NHRA decal
The banner display at the NHRA museum:
The early-60s front-engined dragster and round-trunk sedan: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...um/NHRA075.jpg The later rear-engined dragster and spoilered sedan that looks like a Pro-Stock car: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...um/NHRA074.jpg The earlier "lakes" roadster version was there too. I didn't see evidence of the early front-engined dragster/spoiler-trunk sedan emblem. |
