Yup, first guy was a total bone head. About This Video Added: August 30, 2007 Corvette plant manager Wil Cooksey does some destructive testing on a brand new Z06 Corvette. Watch the tire blowing Burnout and the aftermath! who? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif |
Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
-------I dunno, whos the maroon??? Cooksey did it as a promotion and got a bunch of good PR off of this stunt. Everybody there seemed to think it was cool. As well, the car was a mule, I believe, and therefore would get crushed anyway..........Bill S

Any time a performance car disintegrates during a demo, it is probably not a good thing. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
What an idiot!! "Lets wreck an expensive new car".
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/stupid.gif A couple of years ago a guy in a new vette did a burn out at a local car cruise and lost control, went up over a curb and into landscaping and bushes nearly striking spectators at this show. The car was damaged fairly good and the guy had to have it towed. The funniest thing about it all is that a friend of mine is a Police Officer that loves cars. He was on duty and standing by my car talking with some of my friends and me when this guy pulled out and did this. He did not see my friend or the Police Cruiser by us. My friend was kind to him and only wrote him for failure to control and not reckless operation which would have really been a severe ticket!! Rich |

Restore it later...That's the sole reason we do restorations today. Most had the snot beat out of them right from the dealers lot...Ever wonder where the numbers matching engines and rears went ? ...lol Steve https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif |
Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
Why is this guy an idiot? The car is easily repairable. He entartained a huge crowd. I was selling at the show on L row (Space L88 is mine by the way), and you could hear that car doing a burnout from L row. The cloud was massive!!!! The crowd went crazy for about 10 minutes. Glory in my opinion guys, glory was had for that gentleman.

Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
Doing a mean burnout is one thing. Purposely blowing out your tires and ripping up a quarter panel on a brand new car is another. Even if money is no object, I can't condone that IMO.

[/ QUOTE ] I think people are missing the point. It appears that the gentleman doing the burnout is the Plant Manager at the Bowling Green, KY Corvette assembly plant. The car is a pre-production prototype that can't be legally sold anyway. It's a test mule... a prototype... part of one of the pre-launch builds to evaluate components. Pre-launch vehicles are typically used for testing and evaluation, and then eventually torn down and scrapped. Therefore, I see no harm in what he did. As the plant manager, I'm sure he has the access and right to do what he did to a car that would be scrapped anyway. You've gotta admit, he put on a helluva show! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif |

Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
I watch "Top Gear" every Monday night on BBC America, and that is the only time he was impressed with any Corvette. He also took the Z06 from a dead stop to top speed in 5th gear, with no shifting. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif Very impressive test drive on a long runway. However, he also said that the Z06 was not practically suited for every day driving, just too much car for the effort required. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif In other words, just get the regular 'vette unless you plan on going racing. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

I mean the car is only going to be scrapped anyway as it's a preproduction prototype and they arent really worth anything (at least for maybe 25 or 30 years.) Gee what would a preproduction test mule 67 L88 Corvette be worth or the test mule 1969 ZL1 Corvette out there??? |
Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
Tire mfgs warn against spinning the rear tires above 30mph speedometer read out because the tire can blow well before it is worn through the belt pkg and cassing. Anyone standing near the exploding tire could be hit by shrapnel. Not the nanny type but there are dangers involved.
|
Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
-----Ray,,,In this case at least there were precautions taken. You can see some in the pics. There is no way the Millers are going to jeopardize anyones well being. I know them well and that just wouldnt happen........Bill S

Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
I saw the precautions...again not trying to be a nanny...but who is going to do that on the street? There is more danger in that stunt than people realize.

Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
There is danger in riding a bicycle also.
|
Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
-------I know a few of us are a bit loosely wrapped on this sight, but I just dont see any of us doing the kind of burn-out pictured in this thread on the street, or anywhere close to it for that matter.........Bill S

Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
I can't say if the guys an idiot or not, but sitting here in my kitchen, watching the burnout video, I swear I smell rubber!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif
|
Re: 2008 Z06 Burnout
You'd be far safer riding a bicycle than being anywhere near that tire if it disintegrates while spinning at speed.
