Cowl Plenum breather identification???

3 or 4 years ago, I bought a cowl plenum breather set-up from another SYC member and never bothered to open the box as I trusted his description and it was packaged so well that I didn't want to mess with it until I would need it one day (I know, mistake number 1). Anyway, I never did use the breather and ended up selling it to a member here a few weeks ago. He recieved it and agreed that it was in excellent condition...however, it is not for a '67 Camaro as I was told when I bought it. He thinks it is a very rare piece for a full size BB Chevy, but I have no idea what it is??? Can anyone help? The pics he sent me are too large and in bitmap format, so I can't post them, but I would be happy to email them to anyone who knows about these things. At this point, I'd just like to get my $3,500 back out of it again and chalk this one up to experience https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif However, I can't advertise it until I find out what it is! Thanks for any help that you might be able to provide https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Cowl Plenum breather identification???

If I remember right a Chevelle air cleaner has 5 cut outs inside the duct where a Camaro has 4. That is a Chevelle duct a Camaro has a flange on the top mounting it sits on the top of the firewall.

Re: Cowl Plenum breather identification???

A chevelle would have used the same one as a larger car like an impala. They weren't exclusively for Chevelles.
Greg Cullum who is a member on this site has a couple of these and he could probably ID it for you.

Zedder. Terrytown Steve on the site has an original one off a 68 impala if I remember correctly. It looks the same to me but if he will chime in that will clear this up for you
take care Joe

Hi Guys,
Here are some shots of the cowl plenum duct off my 68 427 Impala. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...P8503Small.jpg

For some reason, the metal A/C base in your pictures looks different from mine. I will get it out later and compare it to your pictures.

Steve, does that plenum fit both the Holley and Q-jet carbs?

Re: Cowl Plenum breather identification???

Hi Rob,
I laid the base over a Q-jet and it fit perfectly with no interference. The carb however was not on an engine. I would assume this one would work on a 385HP engine, becuase I recall Jon Krogh telling me a while back about a 68 385HP SS427 that had this air cleaner originally. After comparing mine to the one in Zedder's pictures, I see that mine is identical. I think the air cleaner bases are the same for all applications, and the duct is the difference.

Thanks for all of the info and pics guys https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Another member has asked to buy it, so it will have a new home soon and I'll have my investment back out of it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Thanks again all, Mark

Hi Bruce,
Can you post these pics of my cowl plenum air cleaner on the post under Tech/resto and cowl plenum breather identification? It is an NOS for a 66/67 Chevelle (maybe other years) that I have had for 4+ years. Maybe it will help so someone will get what they are looking for. I would post the pics but can't seem to find how on the site. I need lessons.

Later,
Dave
