Regardless of whether the date is correct or not on this car, showqualityone (the ebay seller) is suspected of building bogus cars. His ebay buying history included LS6 blocks, heads, blank trim tags, and an engine stamping set. Check out this post from Team Chevelle and then tell me if you'd trust anything from this guy...

Back to the block cast so far prior to car build: It was not uncommon to see this occur up to 6 months of a delta (betw casting of block and build of car) acoording to Jeff Dotterer. He said this was primarily due to relatively low production numbers for the LS6 cars. They would cast a bunch of blocks based on projections and dole them out as the RPO was checked off by the customer.

I am making NO statement about this particular car in this thread. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

I never really thought of the LS6 cars as "low production" cars. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

That is why I used the word "relatively". The bean counters at GM have to make projections on how many they feel the public will buy so the supply/support folks can ramp up to meet these needs. If they overestimate (which may have been the case with the 70 LS6) you will more likely see longer periods between casting dates of unique items (i.e. LS6 block) and the build date of the car.

Considering they built nearly half a million 70's I think the term is quite accurate-perhaps not if you own an L89,but they did build 51thousand L34 SS's.All depends on your frame of reference https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Perhaps a good argument if they were thinking about building LS6 Camaros and scrapped the idea at the last minute. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif

Hey you want long date spreads? Go to Mopar. Most, if not all of the 1971 hemi cars had 1969 casting date blocks.

This led to a common sleezeball approach by dealers back in the 80's and 90's (before the casting span info was common knowledge) who would approach an unsuspecting seller of a car and tell them that since the date code on their 71 hemi cuda, charger, road runner, etc., wasn't a 71 casting date block, it must be a restamp and they should sell it for far less than what they were asking. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif

wow what a snake/a$$hole!

On block dates, and i may have said this before, Pontiac has the same wide spread with RAIV blocks. And i have always been told the batch theory...... and believed it.

Your 40 year old eyes are good enough to spot that they're upside down, just not good enough to spot that it's already been covered about 10 posts up from yours in this very thread. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
