OTHER MOTION DEALERS
I know this is a baldwin motion discussion page, but I just had a few questions. During the years 67-74 did motion buy from any other dealers. If so were they just called motion cars and https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif how much would they be worth in comparison to a baldwin bought vehicle. I read on a motion sight that motion used williams and lyons chev after baldwin closed. Does anyone out there have a williams or a lyons motion car just out of curiosity

Re: OTHER MOTION DEALERS
Baldwin Chevy became Lyon Chevrolet in about 1972. There was an Oldsmobile dealer, Mack Markowitz in Hempstead and together they put together a cutlass. I'll get a picture of that.
Williams Chevrolet, I think was in Freeport, the next town East from Baldwin. I'm sure Glenn can correct me if that is wrong. I know when vehicles were not available locally they were obtained from whoever had them. Any documented Motion prepared vehicle is worth as much as a buyer will pay. I have never heard any of the later cars refered to as "Lyon Motion" cars. Not sure if there was still a big connection when the dealer changed hands. |
Re: OTHER MOTION DEALERS
My past car (the 1972 yellow vette on Corvette Fever this month) was purchased brand new at Hustedt Chevrolet in Center Reach New York. Per my conversations with Joel after
Baldwin closed he purchased cars from a couple of different places. |
Re: OTHER MOTION DEALERS
that is corect. I believe one of the gt vettes came from a dealer in New Jersey.

I'm sure Glenn can correct me if that is wrong. [/ QUOTE ] Come on Chris - This confused us all a couple months ago and the final consensus was - Baldwin - Williams - Lyons! Wasn't it??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif The Chevy dealer in Freeport was in the center of town on the right side of Sunrise heading east - it's still there but it's Conte now. Re: OTHER MOTION DEALERS

The Williams in Baldwin was so brief, (71-72?)I must've been looking elsewhere. I didn't start running parts from that location until it was Lyons. I just forgot what I had for dinner, so take all that into consideration too. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: OTHER MOTION DEALERS
wait, here is Mark A.'s response that sounds kind of authoritative... "williams chev sold it to lyons chev in 76 after owning it for about 2 1/2 years"
I stand corrected (again!!) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/stupid.gif |

This would generally occur when the other dealer had a vehicle that Baldwin didn't have, and the Baldwin/Motion customer did not want to wait for the car to be ordered. Reedman Chevrolet was one such dealership that Baldwin traded cars with. Reedman had a much larger inventory than Baldwin. A dealer trade car would still be sold through Baldwin Chevrolet after the Motion modifications even though originally delivered to another dealer such as Reedman, if the sale originated at Baldwin Chevrolet or Motion. |
Re: OTHER MOTION DEALERS
Joel bought my Motion Monte Carlo at Lion Chevy in 1987.
It was spelled Lion not Lyon and they used a Lion (animal) in the logo here is a link to the paperwork pic https://www.yenko.net/attachments/318655-Doc49.jpg |

My parents had a 79 Caprice wagon from there which had an emblem with a Lion animal to the left of "Lion". I think I pulled it off before they junked the car..wish I could find it! Steve |
Re: OTHER MOTION DEALERS
sorry ,don't ask me why I keep spelling it like that. I guess that's my senior moment for the day. thanks https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif

Re: OTHER MOTION DEALERS
So we know it was Baldwin Chevy up to 1973 and Steve said his parents had a 79 Caprice wagon from Lion Chevy and my 1987 Motion Monte Carlo was from Lion Chevy.
I wonder what was the first year for Lion Chevy? I was told that there may have been other dealers there between Baldwin and Lion. One guy said he thinks there was a Dodge dealer there and another said he thinks there was a used car dealer there but they didn't seem to be sure. Can the local guys ask around about it? |
Re: OTHER MOTION DEALERS
I believe the consensus is that Williams Chevy was in there for less than two years between Baldwin and Lions.

Re: OTHER MOTION DEALERS
Baldwin Chev moved to its new location on Central ave on Jan 19 1952(grand opening) from Milburn ave ,also in Baldwin. The Baldwin Auto Co had been selling chevys since the mid 1920's.
HM Williams took over in Baldwin on Sept 4 1973(grand opening) after moving from Jackson Heights, Queens. HM Williams began selling chevys back in 1953. Before that they sold Studebakers and Pierce Arrow in Manhattan on Broadway. After leaving Baldwin in mid 1976, they moved out to Smithtown, Long Island. It remained Williams Chev until 2006 when it was sold and became Smithtown Chev., which is now history. Lion Chev had its grand opening on Oct 2, 1976 after opening sometime in early August. They were gone I think sometime in mid 1996, and I don't know what the heck happened to them after that. Yet. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |
