Re: Looking for history on this Vette
I guess the Obvious would be to ask around Carneys point NJ. Maybe stop and see if the buiness is still around. Ask at another Body Shop, maybe an older policeman etc...

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
Yea, you would think with the billboard on the side of it that it would be pretty easy, but nobody seems to remember the shop or the car. The VIN numbers were also pulled off, and it had alot of wierd experimental suspension work done to it. I just figured I would post and maybe someone would remember it.

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
How cool! Whatever you do, please do NOT repaint it.
This car has history, the last thing it needs is a cookie-cutter restoration! -Dan PS- This is coming from a guy who owns a '66 Corvette with an NCRS Duntov Award... |
Re: Looking for history on this Vette
Cool infinite line color mix. Psy co delic. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
Any known history on the car such as last time it was raced, where it was frequently raced? You might try contacting the track to see if they have any old photos or race history on the car. I agree that it should not be repainted / restored; it's way too cool as it sits to be put back to original condition.

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
cool, is this just found? whats the story on it?

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
I bet that old photo vendor has pics of this one!! He was at the York show again this past summer.
Schoneye, what's an 'infinite line' paint job? |
Re: Looking for history on this Vette
Car was part of the York show a fews years ago, no one seemed to know about it there. I have asked a couple of guys who were around the New Jersey street / drag seen back then, one thought he seen it before. I had come across a post on another site that I believe someone was looking for this car. I can't find the post any longer. I posted pictures there, but no one knew.

[/ QUOTE ] the infinite line is the pinstripe tape laid down on the white base coat before shooting multiple colors on top. simply the tape ends overlap to avoid an end and create the closed loop or "infinite line" |

John;
I know, that You know ,that I know ,that You know ,that I know where You got that car from !!! It was owned by Joe Borrelli who rebuilt Corvetes over there. You should have asked me !!!! I'm working on a Contact number for you call me !!! Jim https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif |
Re: Looking for history on this Vette
Thanks for the lead, Joe Borrelli did not own the Vette, I just got off the phone with him. He said it was built by Joe Owens. He remembered the car and said it had some kind of custom frame under it. Sounds like we are getting warm.

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
I just sent a email to my dad. He ran a D/MP car in the early 70's in NJ. He lived at Englishtown and Island from 1965 to 1975..

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
Which D/MP car did your dad run at E-town in the early '70s? That's when I was running that class there...........!

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
John;
Was the frame still spaced from the body when You got it ? It was when I first looked at it. I was given that lead by a guy in carneys point . Glad You getting somewhere. Jim |
Re: Looking for history on this Vette
I just talked to a friend tonight who lived in Carney's Point all his life, and he never heard of Joe's Paint & Body. But he DID recognize the type of paint graphics as being a trademark of a guy named Bobby Casto from down there. He's going to ask around and see if he can digup anything else. HE did say Bobby was reported to have cancer a few years ago, so he's not sure he's still around. Anyway, that's another lead for you to work on. Good luck.
By the way, it'a pretty obvious by the paint on the hood that the car was racing without a tunnel ram at first. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gifVerne Here you go.......... R L Casto 288 C St Carneys Point, NJ (856) 299-9060 |
Re: Looking for history on this Vette
Ok, let's see, I will start off by saying I do not own the car, but the guy who does will not be painting it. Geesh! The car has some kind of custom built frame under it, and yes the body is spaced up from it. Kind of looks dumb for a Vette, but I guess thats how they did things back then. The Joe Borrelli guy I talked to told me all of this on the phone before I was able to tell him about it. He said Joe's Paint and Body wasn't around very long. I tried anywho, and no Bob Castro in that area either. That is the problem with some of this stuff it is hard to trace. I did find out that the guy has the VIN numbers for the car, but he said they came in a little tool box or something?

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
OK, I'll say it: How likely does everybody think it is that this New Jersey Corvette drag car with VIN's removed was either stolen and then turned into a drag car, or fraudulently reported stolen ($$ collected) then taken racing?
If you open that tool box and register the VIN with the DMV, I'll bet we'll get one of those "my Vette was stolen 30 years ago and now I'm getting it back!" write ups..... |

The paint was real 70's. I'm having my uncle scan some pictures in for me. I'll post them when I get them. |

Even OJ says; "If I did steal that corvette, I would not carry around the VIN tag to ID the car as stolen for thirty years!!" Let's keep playing the "wow, what a great find" card. |
Re: Looking for history on this Vette
The guy who owns the car says he has a good title for it to. I know he also had it at an early York US 30 reunion looking for history on it. I don't think he would have taken a car he thought was stolen to a show, but I guess you really don't know the history on something until you start digging. Anything is possible and it could be a title and VIN plate from another car. Maybe that is why the custom frame is under it? I would have never in a million years guessed the story of my funny car would of have turned out like it did. It seems alot of shady activity went on back in the good old days.

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
I've just confirmed that Bob Casto did paint the car, and it was owned by Joe Owens up till 5 years ago, when it left the area. Contacts are now being made to Joe for more info. I can probably get you his ph # if you want it.

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
Thanks Verne, I have tried to call Bob, but haven't gotten anyone yet. If you could get the other number for Joe that would be great, or just let me know the area and I can look it up on anywho. If I owe you anything let me know? Thanks again.

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
You don't owe me anything. My interest is historical only. I'm waiting for more information to come in, which I will pass on to you.

Re: Looking for history on this Vette
I've received some more info on the car as well as a contact number for the previous owner. I'll be sending that to you via PM.
