Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel....
You know, I've been looking for a set of those bumpers for a very, very long time. I have never seen or heard of any still existing. There is a fastback Bill Thomas Chevy II that survived to this day and possibly it might have a set. I'd say your best bet would be to have a fiberglass shop fabricate a set from old photos. A good shop like VFN or Glasstek could do it. Sure, it would be expensive, but you'd have something very speciial. Several of those Bill Thomas Novas had those special bumpers. I'm actually surprised that Clary's Novacaine never had a set.

The reason those early BT cars have the cutouts, and mine does not, they were built for road racing, which meant they needed a way to cool the front brakes. Later on they became drag cars. My car and DH's 66 were purpose built drag race cars, thus no need to cool anything. Heck, mine does not even have front brakes. |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel....
I've always thought it was a 3-4 piece front clip because there's so many photos of Bad Bascomb with just the hood removed. I have found an NOS, never installed, straight axle front suspension for an early Nova, but I felt the owner was a little out of line with the price. Dick Harrells '65 Chevy II ended up sitting behind a gas station down in South St. Louis before disappearing into oblivion. A friend possibly had it, but stripped the paint to bare metal and put the shell on a tube chassis before I had a chance to examine it.

Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
There was one of these fastback Novas for sale in Hemmings for 50K in the Performance cars/Racing section for about a year before it disappeared back in the early 90's.

The Allen Green car or the cKc car?

Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
The Allen Green car was in Hemmings around '98-'99 for $45k, but I don't know where it went after that.
|
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Seems at least two of them survive, as at York I spoke with two different folks about the fast back Novas. One was friends with an owner, and the other guy's father was restoring one.

Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
seems like someone told me platts car (dixie shaker) got wadded up ....
|
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Platt's car was for sale in Drag News in the late 60's, may have been totalled later on - not sure.
The cKc car exists - in PA no less https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Here's a Super Stock magazine that looks like it has an article on one of the fastback cars and some other early Chevy II drag stuff, judging by the cover headlines (check the last two headlines- Doug's Headers Injected Chevy II and Texas Nova Fastback).

Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Was doing a search on the internet tonight on articles about my dad, Dick Milner. He was the driver for the Alan Green Chevy II Fastback here in the Northwest (the green colored car). Only 3 of these cars were made. My brother actually told me today that one of the cars burnt to the ground, another crashed and my dad's car was bought by a friend of ours, Gordon Apker. Apker has since sold it but my dad knows where it still is.
http://www.draglist.com/artman2/uploads/1/MB3.jpg http://www.sonic.net/bbdon/free/bill1.jpg http://www.sonic.net/bbdon/free/bill4.jpg After the Fastback, my dad drove Alan Green's 63' Impala Z-11. Hotwheels (or some type of toy manafacturer did a toy car of it) and that car was bought by Don Fezell back East and my dad went to a reunion and drove it again. I was searching the internet tonight because my dad is turning 70 on Friday and was looking for things on him. It's so awesome to see these cars still talked about- and him! There's been many articles as of late that he's been in. If anyone has any questions for him, feel free to ask. I can pass this along to him. Happy 70th Dad!! Meagan |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Also wanted to mention that if you do a Google search on the car there's an article that Apker wrote after he bought it. It actually broke my dad's and his long time friendship as the article lacked much truth and my dad confronted him about it.
At my dad's party this weekend Larry Webb will hopefully make it to celebrate. He worked on the engine with my dad. Does anyone remember Jerry "The King" Ruth? He'll be here too. It'll be fun to see my dad with his old buddies, as he's stayed in touch with them and is still very much involved with drag racing...if only he had put me in a car when I was younger instead of my brother... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Welcome to the site Meagan! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif
You might want to use the search function on this site, as I recall other threads that discussed those fast-back Chevy-IIs, and some neat photos were posted. Pass along a "Happy Birthday" to your Dad for me! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gifVerne |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Thanks for the Welcome Verne!
Apparently I got the cars mixed up, my dad drove the Z-ll before the Fastback. Oops! My mom brought over a bunch of pictures today of the car and of my dad working on the engine. For his birthday cake we're tring to get a replica of the car made. I can post the pictures if anyone is interested. |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
I think many here would be interested to see those.
Welcome. |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
yes please share some pics, does your Mom have other vintage pics of other cars from back in the day??
I have a local to Bremerton? mystery car '62 altered Nova, paint stripped when found so no lettering to go by, had a chromed front Bill Thomas frame -kinda unique, tilt glass frontend, was a factory red car, looks like the last color was a off dark green if that rings a bell with your Dad, any help appreciated. Thnx Bud. |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Looks like I'll have to wait on sharing the pictures. My husband told me that scanner isn't working right now because we've had to move the computers due to a remodel. He's going to take 3 pictures to the office tomorrow to scan so I can give them to the cake people so I'll post those then. But the other pictures that probably haven't been seen before will have to wait.
Bud, I'll ask my dad about your car after Saturday (actually I'll show him your post). I don't want him to question me as to why I'm all of a sudden looking around the internet for things about him. LOL! (it's his birthday Saturday). I'll also then be able to get all of his old pictures that he has. As it was today my mom had to sneak what pictures she could out of the house so he didn't start wondering what we were up to! |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Meagan,
I've tried to follow some of the history of the '63 Z-11s, and thought of a question for your Dad. IT's been said that in order to purchase any specific Z-11 parts from the Chevy dealer back then, one had to produce a VIN of the car and fill out a special form for the order to go through. I'd like to hear your Dad's comments on that. And when you get around to posting some photos, don't forget about that Z-11!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif Thanks Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |

Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Meagan; welcome to the sight and Thanks for sharing some of your Dad's stories. I am sure darn near everyone here would love to hear more and any pictures would be awesome.
Hearing it from "the source" such as you are is really a neat thing and it is great to hear that your Pops is still keeping in touch with some of his Buddies. Tell we all wish him a Happy Birthday and may he have many, many more. BA |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Bud I was thinking about you today when Rich Carlson emailed me. Would you be able to post pictures of your 'mystery' car? Do you think it was raced at one time? I'm asking because Rich Carlson has probably taken some type of picture of every race car out there- he might have an easier time at recognizing it? He'll hopefully be here Saturday but if not, I can email him what you know and the pictures. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
We found Jerry Ruth without having to break into my dad's phone and Carlson has a way of getting ahold of Larry Webb. It will be so great if everything works out! BA, once I'm able to tell my dad about this place he'll no doubt chat with you guys. He loves his computer! LOL! You must ask him why he never put ME into a car... It was my dream. It is great that he remains friends with so many. When my brother raced, all those people became our extended family. As I posted in my bio my brother, Brian, raced dragsters and at one time Bardahl was one of the sponsors, as they were with the AG car. When dad goes out to the Northwest Nationals now he hangs out with Jerry Darien who runs an alcohol dragster. They became close when Gary Scelzi was driving for him. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif Since then Bernstein's son and most recently Ashley Force has driven the car. They joke that you go through Darien to work your way into Top Fuel. I have all these pictures sitting here ready to post and just asked my husband what I needed to do to get him to get the scanner set up for me...well, that was a loaded question https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif Thank you for the Birthday wishes for my dad, he'll love reading them. |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
not much to see but a bare primered shell and a painted Bill Thomas frame at the moment, it was found in Bremerton in about 1980, guy pulled the chrome frame and tilt frontend and hung the stuff in his rafters in a barn and stuck on a standard painted Bill Thomas frame and shoved it out behind his house,he sold it to the person I bought it from she had it from '81 till now and is a strange person with little to no info or help on the car.
I am still trying to get a guy to go for a ride and try and find this guys place on the outside chance the stuff is still around or will at least tell me where he bought he car from or something?. I think the key to rattle some memories is the chrome Bill Thomas frame on the car, cant have been many of those around back then, the person I bought it from had it stripped and put in primer years ago so no chance of any lettering. car was pretty nice at one point the underside of the car is painted in gloss black Imron and with the other stuff was a neat car, I assume it raced back in the day locally but just have not ran into any guys from back in the day to talk with about it. appreciate and help, thnx Bud. |
Re: bill thomas chevy II front bumper delete panel
Sounds like a neat car, Bud. About three years ago, I believe close to you, I missed out on an early Nova sedan car with a Bill Thomas front stub. Had a cool name on the side, "LEZDUIT". I like that.
