What are you seeing that makes you think it may be a COPO? Looks like drum brakes on the front to me...all the other pics don;t really show much. It could be anything I guess, I'd bet its just one of a zillion base model camaros with a hodgepodge of misc. parts. Cool color anyhow... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

sure look like a COPO, large sway bar, front disc., 5A build date with low body sequence number, if indeed thats the original tag?

Is that the piercing for the ZL2 wire harness above the fuse block square?

Yes and if the tag is original, x44 + CI = https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

When I picked up my X66 Camaro it had drums on the front, the original owner put them on for racing purposes.

Its missing a hole in the firewall to have been a COPO, and now that I have pointed it out many here will know what im talking about.

Re: Possible copo on ebay

It would be nice to view the car in person.

Re: Possible copo on ebay

Has the ZL2 cowl induction wiring hole, has the Muncie transmission speedo cable hole, both of which could have been added but there is info right there in the pictures that would indicate that, then someone did indeed get a bargain assuming it is original to the car. Since the owner makes no mention of it being anything other than a 69 coupe I would think at least he didn't add or change this item.

Rick H 09-15-2007 05:36 PM

Re: Possible copo on ebay

Looks like the factory cover for the clutch push rod is still in place on the firewall which would lead me to believe that the car was originally an automatic. With the 4 speed speedo hole you would think you would see an open clutch rod hole and maybe a clutch rod boot.
The cover could have been added but you never know unless you go look at it.

Other indications point towards at least an SS.

Somebody probably got a good deal.

No X44 Super Sports.

427king 09-15-2007 07:10 PM

Re: Possible copo on ebay

Since there are so many real X44 tags on ebay all it would take is to find a cowl induction SS and buy a tag around the same date range. Would many then believe that would be proof the car was real. I think with COPO camaros especially [since iron clad documentation on these cars usually doesnt exist]there is a lot of bending of the rules regarding what is required to document a car. Give me that yellow L89 Canada car anyday

Re: Possible copo on ebay

What is with the conspiracy theories??? If the seller knew what he possibly had then the buy it now would not have been what it was.

I'd rather have this Copo at the BIN price than the other car you mentioned.

I'm happy to see what appears to be another COPO, which had been lost into obscurity found and identified.

If the individual knowledgeable enough to hit the BIN would like to sell this car, please contact me.

[/ QUOTE ] That goes without saying so would i,but only because of possible profit i could make and certainly not from a purist standpoint. But now if it was restored and the price was 225K, would you accept the documentation of a drilled hole and a x44 tag as reason for spending 225K oveer a canada docs car.

How can the seller have played everyone if the car sold with a buy it now price of $7500? The only person he played was himself.

I agree it's not a lot of money, BUT... what if the tag is not original, and the seller tried to make it look like something it's not?

Hypothetical...I have a 2000.00 camaro, i buy a X44 tag on ebay . I list the car as a driver camaro and dont make a big deal about it in the description , because if i call it a copo the car will get scrutinized and trashed . people bid 7500.00 because they feel they can make a dollar and they found something others didnt know about ..I just sold a 2000.00 car for 7500.00...not saying this happened, but this is how a seller can take a buyer for 7500.00

Re: Possible copo on ebay

A rebuildable V8 Camaro 4 speed shell/roller with good title, vin and trim tag, plus misc parts, Including a 12 Bolt Posi Rear, as well as the TransAm 10 bolt posi, in the car is worth the price of addmission.

For the few who follow,track/have followed Copos, this car is not a great leap of faith.

PS. I prefer my Cowl Induction firewall holes. Punched by the factory not drilled.

Re: Possible copo on ebay

How about this senario? Seller isn't like everyone on this site, bought that "project" off a neighbor of his because he wanted a 69 Camaro, bought parts for it for a few years, decided it was too big a project for him, and sold it on ebay for what he thought it was worth.

Not everyone in the world is a #'s expert

Chuck X44 cars are not that rare and either are X11 cars. These guys are just pointing out that a piercing in the firewall that would indicated a ZL2 hood on a X44 car is suspicious. If it was a X11 car it would lean more towards a SS350 car but a X44 base car with that hood only means one thing. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: Possible copo on ebay

Look closely at the picture of the firewall. Way down at the bottom left (as your looking at it) of the transmission tunnel opening is a small clip. Thats very likely the muncie transmission cable clip. Look at the speedometer cable hole in the right side of the transmission tunnel, its not round like someone would have drilled it, its more oblong, the way the factory did it.

You can't just slap an X44 (or X11) tag on a car and add a cowl hood an muncie transmission and make it a COPO. Theres more to it that that. Someone got a real good deal. I bet hes (shes) getting all kinds of calls and emails offering to double or triple what he paid for it sight unseen. If you had it, and beleived it was a COPO or more importantly other people beleived it was how much would you sell it for?

69LM1 09-16-2007 07:03 AM

Re: Possible copo on ebay

FWIW, On another site it has been said that this car is one off from another Scuncio COPO car.

427king 09-16-2007 07:11 AM

Re: Possible copo on ebay

Now that would be neat. I would suspect Ed C would know or could have certified the car based on that additional info if that is true.

The guy that bought it also bought a set of XT wheels on Ebay a few months back for a $1000...I bet he knows what he's has got or was willing to gamble that it is a COPO. Worse case is it is a plain jane camaro with alotta parts, it is still worth what he paid for it.

If it end's up being the real McCoy that is great and I hope it is.
Also means someone finally got a smokin' deal without paying stupid money.

Good luck to whoever bought it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

I don't think it had a Muncie because the clutch rod plate is still on the firewall.

Re: Possible copo on ebay

So, what could happen if the seller were to decide not to sell? Banned from ebay? Potential lawsuit? How can you actually make someone sell you their car? And, If you do persue a lawsuit, don't you have to file in the county/state where the seller resides?
I'd guess that if the seller didn't have a clue when he listed it, he might by now https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

Being that I am not a big block guy (going to bring an LS1 down to Supercar Reunion someday and slap you all silly with it) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif, I would sell it faster than you could say "money in the bank". Hard to say what you could get for it based on the fact that everything noticed and said so far is speculation. If it is the real deal, it just goes to show that there are still cars to be found. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
