Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )
I just ran across this advertisement and man.... did it
bring back memories https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif I don't know what hit me most: the hot pants, the boots, or that Oh-So-70's clear bubble umbrella. The Vega looks cool too. http://webzoom.freewebs.com/nuch_ss3...63482094_o.jpg |
Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )
yeah, I'm flashing back too, but that's no 76. no GT's in 71 so it must be a 72 or 73 as the 74 and up had those fatty bumpers. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif
thanks for sharing. by the way, a vega that still looked that good in this area in the late seventies was definetly sporting an easy do it yourself V8 swap kit from motion. It seemed there was one on every block. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |
Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )

Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )

A blisterimng 175 h.p.or thereabouts but they were light enough that the car would still turn in https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )
It's a 73. I remember a 6 car roadtest in Car and Driver that pitted the economy cars of the time against each other in acceleration braking and handling etc.
The Vega was dead last in the 1/4 mile, but took first by a big margin on a road course. Once you got it up to speed, it handled really well. I had a couple of these, panel versions, but both were V8's. They're hard to find now, as most of them rusted away. |
Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )
OK John,
Sounds like you got the Vega pegged. Now, how-bout the girl in the go-go boots? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Nuch |
Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )
Her name was Misty, and she was very popular. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Looks like a '73 http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...vin/img178.jpg |
Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )
My first car was a '72 Vega GT.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...rs215/vega.jpg By 1976, there was moss on the floor pan in the back seat. Granted, Michigan is a rust-friendly state, but the windshield moulding rusted from the inside out in less than 2 years. Made for a fun time when driving in the rain. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif In defense of the car, with the wide oval 'stones that were standard, it held the road really well. '73 had the "GT" call-outs, '72 didn't. |

Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )
Sadly my first car (15/16 years old) was a Ford Pinto....in my defense it had a really strong 289 , and 4.57 gears. Still....I wish my first woulda been a badass chevy.

Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )
Hank,
If your first car was a Pinto, I don't think you're allowed on this site https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Nuch |
Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )
What was your first car ? ...likely my Pinto was faster.

Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )
I'm going to go out on a limb here and hope I don't get booted off the site by showing a picture of my first car.
I know Kasey will stick up for me. Don't forget I was heavily influenced by the Minicar division at Motion. And getting air under the front tires of this only required about 80hp. This is a test run with fresh metal flake black with pearl blue flip flop paint. Note masking tape not completely removed. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...67VWflamed.jpg |

I like the VW's too, I have had a few over the years and would like to have an Empi GTV bug someday or a Motion Mini car. I was sleeping on Ebay this weekend and lost a Thunder bug decal..... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

Re: Flash back to high school ( circa. 1976 )
I like corvairs https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif. Never had one but would like to own one someday. I never had a real fast bug but was building an 1835CC engine for my 69 and then sold it all for some strange reason. I bought my first Nova when I was 17 and I really thought I was something then, Bandanna on the mirror and Chevy across the windshield.... All that fun stuff and a cam ordered from the bottom of the page https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
