Dumb question: Why didn't they put a sheet of plywood under the wheels and use it like a sled when pulling with the winch?

I never liked boyd he gives the classic car industry a bad https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif name If not for speed channel he would just disappear I don’t know how much they pay him but what ever it is its to much all he does is bark like a dog https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif he is ALLWAYS right. after watching the show on tv I would be dammed if I would even think of buying or letting this moron get any of money. I stopped watching the Tv show used to think it was funny but it gets boring much the same mentality of Paul senior of OCC https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif
Didn’t Boyd a few years back screw some investors in so kind of stock scam??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif?

Re: Coddington Story

The Hollywood crew that scripts these shows undoubtedly fluffs-up the day to day stuff to make it more of a soap opera. Doesn't mean that shop life isn't without the normal BS but the show's producers have to "sex it up" with arguments and temper tantrums and high drama so that people will watch. You don't really think all those "deadlines" are real? Maybe some are but without the pressure of "deadlines" to get cars done the drama would be lessened.

I have recently been watching the new "Hard Shine" show filmed at SoCal Speed Shop. Same sh*t, different shop. Okay, no Dwayne bellowing at everybody but it's the same soap opera. The only reason these shops open up to the cameras is the huge amount of money. Pete Chapouris probably isn't the publicity hound that Boyd is but I'll bet the money sure is good. So what's up with the "cholo" gang-member dress code at SoCal?

My wife walked in as I was watching the cat fight part and commented that Mrs. Boyd has the worst face lift in history since Joan Rivers. Gee, its so lifelike to have eyebrows permanently affixed to the top of your forehead. Looks like she went to the Boyd Coddington of Plastic Surgeons. "Hey we got a rush job on the 1957 "heavy". She needs to be in a show tomorrow. She'll need a full front cranial restoration and we only have an hour to do it..." https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

I know if I wanted to have a high dollar, custom car built, I would want it done by a shop with high employee turnover, an a$$ for a boss, and a place where they never give themselves the time to do it right. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif

Re: Coddington Story

As is plain to see, Coddington is a major A-hole. However,
did any of us know, or see this side of him before the
TV series? I'm playing devil's advocate here.... I feel
exactly the same as all of you, but I also put the three
monkeys of OCC right up there. Impossible deadlines, yelling,
screaming, mock fights ( over trash littered about
the shop ), etc. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif It's all done for the camera.

I just wish they would all go away https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Good point Steve. I guess no one here is a close personal friend of Boyd, his wife, or his employees so piling on with name calling/bashing/personal attacks etc.is OK in this case. (?) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif

Re: Coddington Story

No bashing here. We're all just standing up for that poor girl mechanic who was fired for working on Mrs. Boyd's car when she demanded that one of the male employees who was not nearly as pretty as she was, lube her lugnuts.

Re: Coddington Story

My step brother has had an "Up close and Personal" relationship with Boyd Coddington. Boyd did a Camaro for my step brother around 1983...so my step brother and I have 'prior knowledge' of how he operates.

Please reference my post above in this same thread...regarding me "telling Ken when he has time"

Boyd did not get my step brothers Camaro done on time...on budget...OR sorted out. He IS as he appears...as I've met him numerous times. Plus the fact that he's on a TV show that pepetuates the love him/hate him talk

Besides are any of Boyds cars in this months issue of Hemmings? Or, is Boyd a member here? That seems to be the prerequisite for the bashing... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

There is a HUGE difference between the two...

Give me a break...

I will be enjoying taking my car with my family to an early morning show tomorrow...Never been ther before...Should be fun

You are entitled to your opinion ....Also please remember that it is a TV show created to appeal to an audiance....The fact of the matter is, he was called an (censored) on a public forum....member or not. That is a personal attack.....As far as the Hemmings artical goes..I questioned the artical and the way it was written..Not knowing who owned the car, it's hard to tell right from wrong in print.Could I have done a better job of asking questions...Yes..But my "bash" was never as personal as naming a (censored).

As the seasons of American Hot rodder are going on his hawiian shrits are looking more like Moo Moo's, (Remember the Simpsons episode where Homer wants to work at home so he gains a bunch of weight so he's considered handicapped, and can only wear Moo Moo's), same thing!!

Re: Coddington Story

I was watching an episode (nothing else on) where they were building the Sobe' station wagon and Dwayne was ragging on some rookie (nothing new) about finding some lost parts or they will never meet their deadline, but as he walked away you could see the finished car in the background, And why is it that there is always an unrealistic deadline for these cars (that they always seem to meet just like the OCC guys, must be the same writer!), yet you see these finished cars in the background of other episodes? Why arnt these cars gone to their new owners that are waiting so impatiently?. I had a friend that has worked on overhaulin and he had seen some of boyds work and he said the fit and finish just wasent there for the $ he was asking. I also saw on e-bay (i don't know if its still there) the red pro street vette was for sale for somewhere around the 300k mark, said he had more than that into it. WOW watching the episode with that vette OVER $300k INVESTED!!!!. Boy did Boydd clean house there. Watching the Elvis Cadillac episode got me going too. This womens pride and joy who's dead husbands car which was his prized baby, was sold to boydd and when he got to the shop he burned the tires to the ground and then his crew laughed about how much of a piece of junk it was. Don't they think the lady just might watch the show?, (they did the same thing ridiculing the owners of the sobe' car) real class guys, then they proceeded to pick the car apart while building it ridiculing the Reeses company for picking such an ugly color, again don't they think the NEW owners are watching. Again real class. But then again every customer is an idiot on every show in Dwaynes eyes.

Canucklehead 09-04-2007 02:26 AM

Re: Coddington Story

When you look at the 2 shows (american hotrod / Chopper), for a compnay to get that kind of air time would cost them a fortune, so for them to spend a few hundred on some junk bucket it's a bargin.
