Cool car seen tonight.

I haven't been out to too many evening cruises lately, but I went out tonight to north Edmonton. There weren't a lot of cars there, but I ended up talking to several people I knew, which kept me from taking photos. I thought you guys would like this one though. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
I'm told it's an original COPO car. The sound of it caught my attention. Here's the photos.

I like the stance and the wheels but, I could do without the 5" tall lettering on the rubber JMHO.

I'm really diggin' the swiss-cheesed hood hinges but that license plate is probably off another car.

According to a few guys that were there, it has run 9's. It had a pretty elaborate rear suspension under it, and apparently, hooks really well.

Well, a 9-second time slip from that car would impress the hell outa me. I'm seeing power brakes, stock dual plane manifold, stock fuel line, battery in stock location, full exhaust, etc. Don't get me wrong, I think that car is very sharp and I am quite the fan of Fathom Green, but I've had some very fast street cars and it takes some serious equipment to produce a 9-second time slip.

I like the stance and the tires too but prefer real torque thrusts. I have a set of "D's" and wish I had never bought them. Real deal Torque Thrusts rule !

I was at the Friday night Street Legal Drags tonight, and this car was there. I caught one video before the battery light started flashing.

I think he ran it 3 times, and the last time was 9.71. We're at about 2,000 feet here, and it was quite cool last night. The leaves are turning color already. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

BBIGG BLOCK 396 09-09-2007 10:38 AM

Re: Cool car seen tonight.

I would bet that it is BORED and STROKED with "EXTENSIVE" HEAD WORK to the ALUMINUM HEADS and LARGE ROLLER CAM,running HIGH OCTANE FUEL,LARGE CFM CARB,To look as stock as it does and to run those numbers it has to have a lot of internal work! Can anyone tell by the photo what block it is and what the heads are.Could it be one of those Donovan aluminum blocks worked over to increase the Cubic Inches To "VERY LARGE NUMBERS" I know you can get as much and maybe more than 632 Cubes from some of the Donovan blocks.Personally I am unable to tell what block it is.But it sure sounds GREAT and Performs EXCELLENT!

StriperSS 09-09-2007 11:34 AM

Re: Cool car seen tonight.

I was told it was over 600 cubes. I didn't catch his burnout on video, but the throttle response was instant while heating the tires. I'll make it a point to talk to him next time I see the car. I've only seen it twice.
We only have a couple more Street Legal nights left in the season.

Re: Cool car seen tonight.

I thought it would be some kind MEGA BLOCK or something to turn those kind of times, it takes a LOT to turn a 9.78 @138 MPH! especially looking as stock as that car does!Doesen't matter what kind of block it is though because it is a FINE looking ride and SUPER FAST!Whoever built it went for a GREAT LOOK and knew what they were doing that is for sure! One BEAUTIFUL CAMARO!Can't you imagine a YOUNG BUCK pulling up besides you in his HONDA with the EXTRA LARGE fart can muffler and revving his engine at you at a redlight! When the light turns green all he would see is the AZZ of a FATHOM GREEN 69 CAMARO bumping gears until it was out of sight! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

It seems I do have a video of the burnout, just not from the start. It's a little clearer than the run.
I have another short video of a really clean 55 Chevy waiting to run too.

Re: Cool car seen tonight.

The car showed up at tonights cruise in north Edmonton, and I spoke to the owner. It's an original COPO car that he's had for awhile, and all the original parts are safely tucked away while he has some fun with the car.
I asked about the block, and displacement, and he tells me it is currently displacing 479 cubic inches in a ZL-1 block.
He's running a 10.5 inch tire, a Jerico 4 spd and fiberglass monoleaf springs. He has a bar setup to keep the rear planted, and it seems to work.
Last friday was his best timeslip ever at 9.71 and 139 mph. It was also his best 60 foot time too.(Sorry, can't remember that number) He has a removable cage for it that has satisfied the tech inspectors at this track, as well as Mission, and Saskatoon.
I'll see it in action again tomorrow night as our weather is forecasted to be good. It sounds like a lot of fast cars will be there tomorrow to take adsvantage of the cool autumn night air.

Re: Cool car seen tonight.

well its kind of weird that i come across this sight and find this car on here because it happens to belong to my step dad. this is a legit 9 second street car that runs on pump gas, the engine makes 680 hp and about 580 ftlb of torque, it is a 427 cube zl-1 engine that has been bored a stroked to 479. it features a 4 speed jericho tranny with a ram clutch. the car breathes through dual 3" full flowmaster exhaust, and yes it does have a stock dual plane intake manifold this car will run 0-60mph in about 2 seconds flat. the engine was built by flyin ryan bell out of st.albert. this guy is amazing for porting heads probably the best in edmonton. there is a new engine that has been built and might go into this car, not sure yet but it is a 604 cubic inch monster firing out 880 horse, we figure that this engine could possibly push the car into the high 8's.

i just thought that some you would enjoy the extra info i can't remember all of the details about the engine but i can find out more.
