Olympic Gold Yenko
I have thought about this car for almost 30 years and wondered if it is still around. This car switched me from Nova’s to Camaro’s. I saw the car for sale at the Car Craft Street Machine Nationals in Indy in 1979. As I remember it had North Carolina plates on it and was For Sale with $5,800 written on the sign. I am not sure if it was real but back then it was a 10 year old used car with stripes and a big block. I had taken some pictures, but have not been able to find them in years. At the time I didn’t have the $5,800 so I returned home and bought a nice 69 Z/28.
Just wondering if it is still around and might get a chance to see it again at SCR X. I think I could come up with the $5,800 today if it is still around. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif Mike |

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I don't remember about the wheels, it was a long time ago. I did meet 3 crazy Canadian's in the Indy KOA campground and some how a shed went missing piece by piece during campfire time....
I later heard that one of them drove out the side of the second or third floor of a parking garage in Toronto. Sometimes I think I could have used those brain cells later in life. Mike |
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
The Atlas wheels comment was in wondering if the car you saw could've been the Olympic Gold Yenko prototype that exists today?.

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I believe there was a thread on here last fall or so regarding an 69 Olympic Gold Yenko Camaro for sale in Upstate, NY without the original motor - I think someone here may have purchased it

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I saw Barrys gold car at Brians shop in early 2002. I immediately fell in love with the car. I saw it before Brian did his work. I Tried 0n 20 different occasions to get Barry to let it go , even before Brian finished it, to no avail. I tried to get it after Brian finished it, it was the car that i always tried to get, but couldn't. I called Barry one last time before i bought the Gold one from Dave Belk. I finally got another Gold one. The 2 will make beautiful bookends. I owned another Gold w/ Black stripe car that needed quite a bit of work and at the time i needed the $$$ for a real estate deal. I am glad i let that one go and got this one. This one has white stripes. To me they are the ultimate yenko. I guess the thrill of the hunt makes it that much more interesting.Barry's is gorgeous, Brian did a great job. I am looking forward to having mine finished, perhaps later this year. The parts are being assembled, we have the correct date coded engine, been media blasted, and is currently underway. I can't wait!

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I can't help it, i must comment again, "THAT IS DOUBLE BAD TO THE BONE". BEAUTIFUL!

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
Kevin, there's a pretty extensive post on this car when the seller listed it for sale here. It was initally offered to sYc members at prices from $125K-225K with everybody eventually walking away. Wasn't the car it was....
I think it's a great car and I'm glad you own it with plans to restore it properly. I think we all want to see it ressurected https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I agree with Tom, "Priceless". Jude, i was there in the middle of the meley. Steve originally agreed to sell me the car. I was in Charlotte at the car show. He wanted me to wire hime the money on friday afternoon at 4:45. I called my bank, got it handled, drew up a bill of sale quickly, told him to go to his bank and i would fax it to him to sign before i wired the money. I called him @ 5:00 pm after jumping through hoops while he played everyone against on another. I had Brian Potter look at the car 2 weeks prior to that. Needless to say Steve never showed up at the bank or took my call. I wasn't about to wire the amount we had agreed upon with this guy ( strange). Clint did the right thing by showing up at his house with the money. Needless to say, i payed a lot more for the car, but at least i felt comfortable with the exchange of money and car. This guy had told me he was being investigated for child Molestation. The continually twisting strange late night phone calls, drama, and doing the same thing to 5 other people while playing us all against each other made me uncomfortable with anything with this guy. He lead everyone on a wild goose chase. I ended up getting the car from Belk and Clint.

How many Gold cars are found?

How many Gold cars are found? [/ QUOTE ] Hello Kevin, Yenko just built a total of 10 Olympic Gold Camaros. One was sold at W.R. Austin Chevrolet in South Norwalk, CT. It is still in the original owner's garage. It is not for sale. He got it for a high school graduation present How may are still known? Drew Papsun |
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
There are at least 7 Gold cars accounted for including one that went to the junkyard.
Mark |
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
The junkyard car Mark is refering to is likely the one I found in Wanaukee, WI March 1981: N579434/NOR 202470. It was abandoned on the street in Madison and Schmidts' ended up with it. For $75 I bought the dash cluster and rear axle. [No matter what HB says I sold that axle to the owner of the #40 ZL1 at the time]. There wasn't much left of it and it had been repainted dark blue. I believe it came from Yunker Chev in Oconomowoc and led a hard life. They took it back in trade in 1976; it was already blue and had a small-block.

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I only knew of 4. Mine, Barry's, Wayne's, Cliff's. That makes one more in Connecticut, where are the other 2? I think that is fantastic.

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
Kevin, the O-gold Yenko Camaro that Randy Miller had, where did it go?

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko

Kevin, the O-gold Yenko Camaro that Randy Miller had, where did it go? [/ QUOTE ] It was taken completely apart and re-restored correctly by the SCW. Its the same car posted in the beginning of this thread. |
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I agree the SCW does them the way they were supposed to be, I saw the car after Randy had if restored, and it had white stripes when it left Randys, Olympic gold on a Yenko Camaro is a awesome.

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
That's the car Brian did for Barry Coughlin.Pictures shown above.

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
Hello Kevin,
Gary Holub has a gold one. He has one of each paint colors. What is the name of the Chevrolet dealer sold your new? |
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I think Gary's is loooong gone.
|
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I thought Kevin had a few of Gary's cars at one time...
The Vin on the Gold one in CT is 579474 has it ever been accounted for before now? |
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
The CT car has been known for decades, I think his dad was a doctor or a dentist or something?? Nice grad present though!
|
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I grew up in Norwalk CT and I remember seeing the gold one around. I went with my dad to W.R. Austin to buy a new car around 1969/1970 and there was a dark blue Yenko Nova in the showroom. 4 speed, white stripes, rubber floor. Unfortunately my dad bought a Nova 6 cyl w/3 on the tree instead of the Yenko. Norwalk had many, many, muscle cars in the '70's.
|
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I got Gary's in 2003, never was completely happy with the car, sold it to John O., he sold it to Wayne S.
|
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I agree the gold cars are the ultimate Yenko Camaros. At SCR1, I saw Cliff's car, and I think I spent more time drooling over it than all the other cars put together. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif His car is the 'proto-type' Yenko that was featured in SS&DI, right? The 427 emblem placement is also different on that car too, right? On the front of the fenders instead of on the cowl section of the hood.

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
This car was purchased from Randy Miller. Barry bought it and had it restored back to its original black/gold combination..This is a cool picture of the car as it was being re-assembled without stripes yet...BKH

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
And the finished car. One picture from the Pittsburgh WOW show, the other two from the downtown Canonsburg show. The gentleman pictured in the car that day was a former Yenko employee nicknamed "Soup". Soup did many jobs around the Yenko dealership in the supercar heyday. He helped Donna Mae count cars and told us they rarely came up with the same numbers. He most likley sat in this car in the spring of 1969 moving the car about...Very nice man..BKH https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
I know when it left Randys the floor pans were painted Gold like the rest of the car, the car looks a lot better with black stripes(no offense to anyone who has a car with white stripes), another great job by Brian and the SCW crew.
|
Re: Olympic Gold Yenko
My favorite color. I think to have one with Black or white, doesn't matter, just having one! I saw the former Randy Miller car at Brians back in 2002 before Brian did the car. I worried Barry for years on that car. I finally gave up when the mine became available. I am absolutely delighted to have another one. Why Gold wasn't popular then, i'll never understand.
