Any Vintage Wheel guys out there?

I've had this wheel in the garage for years and always assumed it was an original TT. Upon closer inspection tonite I find it's not. It is a 14 x 7 like the rest of the TTs I have, but this one is obviously Aluminum.

Any guesses as to the manufacturer? I've had this thing since the early '80s so I'm guessing it's a late '60s - early '70s vintage.

One of many TT copies from back in the day. Could be a Keystone, Appliance, or any number of more obscure makes. Go look through the "Vintage Wheels" thread at some of the old ads I posted (and others posted) and maybe you'll see it.

It could possibly be a Mickey Thompson "Duke." Check this site out...they've got lots of nice photos of vintage mags and mag wheel accessories of nearly every variety. I don't know about the backside markings, but the face looks very similar to the M/T Duke. Hope this helps. KustomWheel.com

One thing I can guarantee is that it isn't an Appliance. They were made in Japan, this one's stamped USA.

Bill/Tom/Erik/Joe,

I did look through the Vintage Wheel thread and thought maybe it was a Fenton. Could also be the M/T Duke; that's one I hadn't noticed before. The number of 'steps' in the face and the width of the web at the mounting flange fits those two models fairly close. I 'm hoping someone recognizes the back markings. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
Yep, she's American Made so it won't fit no Ricer! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Thanks for the info so far. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: Any Vintage Wheel guys out there?

Any Fentons I have ever owned or looked at always have the Fenton logo cast in the backside and the Hustler II or III name also on the back. I'm also doubting the wheel you have is a Fenton. Ever hear of a Foremost?

Re: Any Vintage Wheel guys out there?

Foremost? Was that a J C Penney brand?

Great memory there, Dennis....I also seem to recall JC Penney's selling a Foremost brand.

I thought all the M/Ts had M/T cast in the back?

camarojoe 06-27-2007 06:54 PM

Re: Any Vintage Wheel guys out there?

I'm pretty sure they did Verne, which is why I thought it could be some type of offbeat brand like a Foremost. Here's a list of brands i feel confident it's NOT:

American
M/T
E/T
Appliance/ A/P
International
Fenton

Which still leaves a pile of brands no one even thinks of today... pick up an old late 60's issue of any major car rag and you'll see a half dozen or more wheel ads for companies you never even hear of today... back then it seems like every street corner had a factory cranking out a copy of a torq thrust wheel. If you think figuring out who made it is tough, try finding 3 more to match it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

I agree Joe. I don't remember for sure if Keystones had their name on the backs, but I think they did? (on the cast wheels anyway)

Tell me more about these AF/X's, as I have a pair of old-school, sharp spoked wheels with a steel rim. There is nothing on the back.

Were Atlas wheels an alum. face on a steel rim?

Re: Any Vintage Wheel guys out there?

I think the Atlas wheel was all aluminum. Weren't they actually cast from the American TorqueThrust?

Re: Any Vintage Wheel guys out there?

JC Penny's had a brand called AF/X Racing Team. They had wheels, slicks, headers, tachs etc. I believe they were made by different manufactures for the catalog giant. BBBenny has a killer pair of slicks that have the Foremost JC Penney name on them. I have an AF/X Dixco Tach also. Used to shop there in late 68 before we had enough money to buy speed equipment from the real "speed shops." Around 35 years later we finally realized it was pretty much the same parts for a little less money. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gifhttps://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Yep, a friend about 25 miles East of me has a nice, nice pair of JC Penney 14" slicks. 'Course, he has a LOT of cool stuff,...................and none of it for sale https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif.................yet! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

The original owner of my black L78 Chevelle ran 14" JCPenney Cheater Slicks when he ran in B Stock. He then moved on to M&H Racemasters.
