Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
Has anyone tried any of their products. I was up at the Camaro Nationals and someone told me to try this stuff. Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.
Thanks |
Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
I buy mine at a Sunoco station in Chambersburg,PA + all the local dirt track racers use it....the only other choice I have in the area is Cam 2.

Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
That's all that's been in the Deuce since I bought it. Its 115 octane, and currently 5.30 per gallon. There's a local place that sells it but won't let you pump it directly in the car, gotta haul it in cans 5 gallons at a time. Its good stuff. There's no amount of compression it won't prevent from detonating. Actually, 5 gallons mixed with a tank of premium is more than enough, but I figure if a little fixes it, a whole tankful will fix the hell out of it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
It's all I've ever ran in my Copo 427 Camaro and it loves it. It's $5.00 gal. here and I'm like Joe...if a little's good a whole lot is better. Sweet smell too.

I like the stuff, but we don't have it in these parts at present. The only thing I wasn't happy about was the high exhaust temperatures. Noticably higher than I ever had with CAM2 or some of the others I've tried. Maybe I should have played with the jetting? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
Tom, does this mean that you would actually drive one of your cars? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
I don't see why you would need racing fuel for a trailer queen. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

That's all I've used in my Pure Stock W31 and the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers just blew out the baffles at the Martin race. 6 seasons, but only raced 2 or 3 times a year. 150 miles max in all that time. Wonder if those high exhaust temps caused this. Original factory mufflers were still fine when we took them off in 1999 (64k miles). I really like the Turbo Blue smell. Especially the first time out in the Spring (same as summer in Michigan). |
Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
Like regular gasolines from around the country, each racing fuel has it's own blend...octane rating, specific gravity, oxygenation, etc...I can even think of a few racing series that have their own blend. So, yeah, a jetting change is often needed following a change in fuel...

Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
A few years back, (when I actually drove the car) we drove to SuperChevy/Indy. I started out with Turbo Blue in the car. When we stopped for fill-ups along the way we usually had to pop the trunk for the girls to get 'something' out of their bags. The trunk was always hotter when there was TB in the tank. Even began to notice the temp difference in the Exhaust tips. I guess the difference in the SG of the fuels could account for the amount of fuel pushed through the system. I don't recall tracking the MPG with the different fuels though. It was so bad it really didn't make much difference! 10 - 12 at best, and it usually hung around the 8 - 9 range. Running 4.10 gears, a TH and an 11:1 454 at 70 - 75 MPH wasn't the best choice for a road tripper. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
Identical results in a 4:10/TH400/11:1 396,running TBlue too.

Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
Open headers takes care of the problem!!! Restricted pipes & mufflers will raise the temp.

Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
Last week turbo blue was $3.99 a gallon here.

Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
Actually located a place that sells it about 60 miles from me. Going up in the next couple of days to pick some up. From what I understand as long as you run up to a 25% blend there would be no need for a jetting change for the 115 octane leaded brand they sell. Anything beyond that will require a change.

Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
Here is a website for race gas in Illinois. http://www.local.com/results.aspx?keywor...CFQldQAodCT7U1A
Not sure if there are websites for each state. I just typed in 'race gas' on Google. This link was on the right entitled 'race fuel'. Rich |
Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
Went up with one of my daughters and picked up some Turbo Blue on Saturday morning. Nice drive through some mountains to get to the Fuel and Feed that carries it. Put it in the cars at a 25% blend and the results were impressive. This is GOOD STUFF. If you have a big block engine, give this a try. It costs me $5.29 a gallon but for an extra $10.00 a tank it's well worth it. It makes https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif so https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif. The L34's responded very nicely with it but the L89 really got off with it. One of my other daughters even said she loved the smell from the exhaust once the engine was running. I do believe I am hooked on this stuff now.
Here's a link to the site : http://www.turboblue.com/ . It will direct you to the closest selling dealer to you. Enjoy~ |
Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
I think on a stock 427,LS6 or LT1 you are wasting money running straight 115 octane. Mix is probably very sufficient.

Here is a dyno sheet on my L89 that was run last week. Straight 93 octane. Pretty good results for a stocker 396.

Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
Race gas is like Viagra. Unless you really need it, it's not going to help you. Most people when they rebuild these old engines use a Fel-Pro Permatorque head gasket thats twice as thick as the old steel shim head gaskets and that does to tend to knock(pun intended) some compression out of these motors. You wanna put pump gas in your L72. Just put on a set of aluminum heads and Fel-Pro Permatorques and watch how that thick head gasket and aluminum's thermal effiency tames that beast down. Great way to neuter a Rat.

Re: Turbo Blue Racing Fuels
I put together an L72 a few years back just as the factory would have, just to see how it would stack up...I had to remove just the slightest material from the deck/heads to clean 'em up, and when I cc'd it, it still came in at only 10.2:1 compression. I've heard of a similar rebuild on a Berger L72 that came in at 9.8:1 compression. Anyway, I ran a mix of premium and race gas, until the car was really sluggish at the track one night...I went with straight Premium after that and never had a problem. Thing went 12.7s @ 108+ in our heavy car, and coulda went quicker had I knew then what I know now.
Now, our current 12:1 L72 is a different story...https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
