Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
Hello,
I own a very original 69 Z28. The last owner that owned the car for 34 years installed gauges.(Water, temp, oil, under the dash in a decent looking holder or cluster.) My car did not come with the gauges in the console. But it does have a console and did come with a tach and a fuel gauge. I do not want to add a console with gauges simply because the car did not come with this option. Of course the added gauges that are on the car and the ones that I want did not come with the car either. But they seem more correct to me because this is something someone would have done back then. But I do want gauges so I can see what this old engine is doing. Jerry MacNeish came to the house to review the car a few weeks ago. He loved the idea of the added gauges on the car while keeping everything original. But said the ones I have need to go and that I should find some nicer period correct gauges. I am a little confused as to which gauges to go with. I know Stewart Warner makes the green light gauges that seem to have the look of the 60's. Or is there something else I should be looking at? Should I find some actual 60's gauges to go in the car? If so, which ones and how do I find them? Thanks for the help!!!!! Anthony https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Anthony,
Boy, sure sounds like you have a sweetheart of a car there. Maybe you should post a picture or two to motivate some of the gurus around here https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif . |
Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
No problem!
Here are a few pictures. Well here is a picture of the gauges that are in the car. Made by Dixon. Not a great view. Oh, those are papers in the passenger side. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n...yTXShow014.jpg a pic with beuty rings off... original paint.... http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n...ewTires004.jpg |
Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
Are you sure their not Dixco gauges? If so, I respectfully say... " https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif"..... leave them in there! That's about as period as you can get.....JMHO

Anthony,
Nice ride. Lemans Blue is one of my all time favorite Chevy colors. I just looks right on the '69s! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ewTires004.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...yTXShow014.jpg Here is a photo of a 2 owner LB '69 SS 396/325 4 speed that NGTFLYR and I restored a few years ago... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...8fHvrAV_ph.jpg |
Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
They look like Dixco's, leave 'em!
|
Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
Steve,
Sorry about that. Yes they are Dixco. For real, these are pretty decent? I do not have a problem with them really if they are good period correct gauges. But the Camaro guru that looked over my car did not care for them. Hmmmm..... Thanks Steve! WOW WOW WOW Sam, your Chevelle is unreal looking. I love the white interior! |
Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
I think yours are "period correct" for the late 1970s and that may be what Jerry is referring to. The early style SW or Sun chrome-rimmed gauges would be "period correct" for 1969. The set you have remind me of what I had in my Z11 in 1977. Keep 'em and enjoy the car as is. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif

Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
Jerry's opinion is just that, certainly not a marching order! Those are Dixco gauges, and were not Yenko installed in the Yenko Deuce Novas in '70. So, they are certainly period correct for your car. The SW greenlines are period correct as well, and would also look very nice installed in your car.

Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
Thanks guys! You are all saving me $$$ by your comments. What is funny is that they match the dash extremely well. The silver around the faces is a lot like the silver around the speedo and such. But anyway, thanks for the help!!!!!!!

Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
I would tend to agree with leaving the Dixco set where they are. The Sun and SW gauges are probably more 'period correct' and maybe even more trustworthy overall, but the Dixco units are certainly acceptable. (Just another humble opinion.)
BTW, Great Car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
I think a set of modern Sunpro's would be better, take those Dixcos out and send them to me. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
Dixco was a division of Dixson, Inc.
You're right on the money with those gauges. However, I think a set of original Blue Line Sun accessory gauges and a nice 10 grand blue line tach would do the Lemans Blue Paint justice. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif |

Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
That is great!
Wonder when they stopped making these? I had trouble finding info on these gauges when looking on google.... |
Re: Retro Gauges for my 69 Z28????
You've definitely come to the right place to find out info on these... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
