barn find 69 Mach 1 project.....any websites?
 

hey there, I was working in central NJ last week when I noticed what looked like an old Mustang under a tarp next to the neighbor's house.(it actuaaly wasn't a 'barn find', but more of a 'driveway flowerpot' find) I went and peeked under the tarp and realized it was a Mach 1. Noone was home, so I left a note on the door. The owner called and said he was thinking of selling but wanted to check on the internet to see how much they are going for and he would call me back. I knew I would never get the car if he checked the recent auction results at Barrett Jackson or Kruse Auctions as he probably thought it was worth 100k.
I took a chance Yesterday and drove up there with cash in my pocket. The owner explained how many people had knocked and/or left notes on the car. The owner was reluctant to give me a price as he still hadnt checked the internet...he finally told me what he wanted which I would have gladly paid for the car, but I made a counteroffer just about half of his price figuring we would meet in the middle somewhere...after going in to consult his wife, he came out and agreed to accept my offer. I immediately called my buddy with a rollback and made the deal. I waited about an hour for the rollback to arrive and when we were loading the car, the owners son arrived home and was a bit upset..to say the least. I felt a little bad, but not bad enough to give the car back.
Anyway, i just picked up this 69 mach 1...69k miles...2nd owner...351-4-speed..sitting for years...the seller gave me the original owners name and address also...I will see if I can contact him also. Are there any websites that I can send my info...data in order to verify the originality, numbers, etc. thanks in advance for any help...

the moral of the story...they are still out there...just go with cash in hand!!!

Here are some pics I took today. I found the fender tag and owners manual in the glove box. Anyone know how to decode these things? i was never a big mustang fan, but any car with factory flat black paint, giant hood scoop, hood pins, and rear fin must be pretty cool!!!

Nice find BUT I have a small problem with how you handled the deal. You stated that you would have gladly paid what he asked for the car yet you still low balled him. Sounds like you took advantage of someone that didn't know any better. I remember reading a post from a couple years ago about a guy that bought a car (I think it was an early 442) from an old lady for a samll % of what it was worth. He was immediately slammed for taking advantage of the situation.

are you serious?? the guy told me what he would like to get for the car and said make me an offer. I never thought he would take my first offer. I think I may have offered too much. You mean to tell me you would have paid all the money he wanted?? I guess you are a better man than me.
I cant imagine that if you find a real bargain on a product that seems to inexpensive, that you offer to pay more just to be fair?

"never pay anyone what they are asking". homes, boats, cars,(new or used) Thats what I was told over 30 years ago. I thought it still held true.
(that dosent mean you rob old ladies!)

I am very serious. I wouldn't have a problem if he were asking too much for the car but you said "he finally told me what he wanted which I would have gladly paid for the car". Then you offered half of what he wanted. That is where I have a problem. I may be wrong in my thinking here but that's how I feel about it.

I've heard this argument on this website before, And personally I buy cars for as cheap as someone will sell them to me. I can't afford to pay extra myself. I'm a pretty honest guy, but I've never lost any sleep over getting too good of a deal.

i told the buyer to make me an offer,and he offerred me $1500 more than what i wanted for it.

unfortunately, I have too many Camaro projects at the moment...and i really need some work done on my house, ......
so fortunately it looks like the car is going to a buddy of mine who is a real mustang freak (and he does concrete work !!)...Im sure he will give the car a proper original restoration..
