Help with a Chevelle tag decode, please.

I have located a 69 Chevelle that I was told is a real SS car.
Would someone please look this tag info over and let me know if this is a real SS or another wild goose-chase. Below is all the info that I have been able to get from the owner.
I am trying to set up a time to look at it in person this coming weekend.

ST69 13637 BAL254777 BDY4

TR 756 72 B PNT

05D 8 B L179154

The car is in primer and has the following, black bucket seat interior, factory tach and gages, 4-spd muncie, 12-bolt posi, PDB. The engine is supposed to be a 396 out of a Nova.
The body is fairly solid with a few rust holes in the front fenders and drivers door.

What else should I look for?

Thanks in advance for your help. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

That trim tag says Super Sport.
Original Monaco Orange w/ Black V-Top & Blk Buckets.
What's the redline on the tach?
Relay the rearend prefix stamped on the passenger side axle tube too.

Eric, Its a BB car because its orange. Id look for a 3/8 fuel line and a 6000 tach to see if its a 375. May want to check the rear ratio .

Thanks for the help guys.

Rick,
I'll get the axle code this weekend.

Chuck,
He said the tach is yellow at 5700 and red at 6000 with a 7000 end. I'll check to see if the ratio matches the code when I look at the car.

Look for a buildsheet behind the passenger side front door panel 1st,then the drivers side, then behind/under all the seats & two rear panels, then the carpet under layment.

Rick,
Do you mean between the door panel and the door shell?

Yep.

Re: Help with a Chevelle tag decode, please.

Does the 6K redline mean it is a 396/375 car?
I'll call tomorrow to ask about the fuel line.

Thanks for the help.

I'll post pics after I get to see it in person.

Since its not a copo, 6000 redline means L78 or L89....

....assuming that tach has been in the car since it was brand new.

Not to put doubt the car in question but following senario comes to mind.

I know that DY and MO were only available on SS Chevelles in 69.... so what would the paint code on the trim tag be if you special ordered either of those paints through the FS&O on another chevelle or malibu? Would it read -- or 72/76?

Any known examples?

Julian,

After seeing your post, I checked my tag on my Black/Red Baltimore built Chevelle. Thought this might be of interest.

My Chevelle was assembled 06A with a sequence number 252680. It was delivered to the customer on 13 June. This Monaco Orange Baltimore car was built earlier (05D) with a later sequence number of 254777. I am sure some of the experts will have some thots on this. They were cranking the cars out back then so if the car had a "hiccup" and had to sit on the sidelines for even a little bit this may account for it. Also, if it has any bearing or not, the Baltimore plant was just wrapping up its strike.

Thanks for all the help guys.
I talked to the owner today and he is going to check the fuel line tonight.

I also asked him about how it ran when he drove it.
It either has a huge gear or he is telling a huge story.
He said it would lay down about 20 feet of rubber when he hit 3rd gear.

He said the car has been in storage for over 10 years.

[/ QUOTE ] Without a buildsheet, everything is an assumption as to its vintage of course whether it be the fuel line, the 410s,or the tach etc .

There are examples in the Nova world where a later body number received an earlier vin number, strange, but it happens.

None of them were beat on, that's why they retain their "original" engines https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif
