Bruce should have had a "sixth sense" about that car.. The dead giveaway should have been the dealer not allowing or wanting him to look at the car before purchasing it as stated in the article. That flat out sucks!! I hope he gets his money back and then some!!!

Re: Bruce Willis suing musclecar dealer in NJ

Pristine museum quality would be a nut and bolt restoration. I wasn't dumb enough to buy any of our cars sight unseen and they are just nice drivers. Of course, with a description like that, the buyer has lots of legal recourse. These guys obviously don't have a clue what museum quality is. I saw the one and only Marmon 16 limousine the other night. Now there was museum quality plus. I've never seen that level of restoration before. Then again, $70K wouldn't buy the chrome trim on that car. I think that I should go into muscle car sales. Sounds like our cars are better than museum quality. I'll even let Bruce drive them.

Very interesting. I sent the article to my attorney. Imagine dealers and supposed reputable mechanics just flat out lying to people! The more of these crooks that get sued and prosecuted the better.

Marlin,
I have a good friend who consigned his '62 SS convertible to him many years ago. He wanted $17K but said he would take a low of $15K. Nick "sold" the car for $15K, and that's what he paid my friend (minus commission). Later he ran into the guy who bought it and was told he had paid $17K for it!! I just don't know how dealers think they can get away with stuff like that and it won't catch up to them. All it takes is one time, and your reputation is in the trash. I guess some people just don't have any respect for their own name.

Re: Bruce Willis suing musclecar dealer in NJ

I have 2 "Golden Crusty" stories. My friend had a 69 X55 car he wanted to sell. He gives it to Golden on Consignment to sell it for 15k. They call him and told him that its sold to come down and sign the title and get his money. When he gets there they tell him the car is shipped and it sold for a Five thousand less ( he had no idea about the less money). At this point the Manager walks out of the room leaving the title on the desk. My buddy takes the title, walks out and calls from his car and tells them that he wants his 15k or he's calling the cops and reporting the car stolen. One hour later he had a bank check for 15k.
Another time I was in the showroom and noticed a 1969 Z28..As I walk over to read the window which states " all original" " real deal". It had a 327 and a Automatic..which the salesman told me was "rare".. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif

If I were the person that sold him the car and wanted to sell more cars in the future I would immediatly
refund him the money.Or repair the car as advertised.
And why would you sell a car to anyone with problems in the first place.
I wonder if the dealership is doing this to get more exposure.

Re: Bruce Willis suing musclecar dealer in NJ

You know, I must be missing the big picture here. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Mr. Hollywood buys a car months before he files a claim.
The seller claims that he gave Willis the option to inspect
the car first. Don't know if that is true or not. Also,
I don't really care. Let them work it out in court like
real people. Oh wait! This is one of Hollywood's elite.
SO, we have to get Access Hollywood into it now. GET REAL!

You know, with all the money this bone-head has, he should
have hired an "expert" to go inspect the car first. Heck,
these Holloywood types don't take a crap-ola without their
agent(s) and lawyers getting involved first. He made a
bad purchase decision - FINE! Live with it and sue. He
shouldn't be able to use the media to further his cause
because he's "special". This is what I object to.

This is primarily why I'm sick of all the "glamour crowd"
getting involved in this hobby these days. I really don't
care about all the cars Leno has, or Willis, or anyone else
of that ilk. Just look at the farce B-J has become. Now
we have the 3-musketeers from OCC selling their cars too.

The fun is going away, I'm afraid. The high dollar values
( while nice for those of us lucky enough to own
one or more of these cars ) have brought about the evolution of
the hobby into what it is today.

Sorry for the rant guys! Raising children, owning a business,
trying to proper in life are all hard enough. I'm just so
tired of turning on the TV Saturday & Sunday and seeing all
these idiots and their rediculous cars, etc. and have to
listen to the bla-bla-bla! I just want to see real people
with real cars. That's what the hobby used to be.

Chuck - real good point you made.

Nuch - You're missing some key points. This is from the article:

"BTC president John J. Bertino refused to let the Hollywood star examine the car before buying it - saying it was in "perfect", "pristine" and "museum quality" condition."

And its not really fair to accuse Willis of using the media to further his cause, when in all likelihood the media chose to pick the story up on their own.

Re: Bruce Willis suing musclecar dealer in NJ

PLAIN AND SIMPLE.. He should have inspected the car before purchasing and if he didnt its his own fault! deal with it he is whining about $2,700 and some odd change he had to put into the car?? Give me a break? I wish I only had to put 3k into some of the crap Ive got burnt on ove the years! Ive been burnt a few times and everytime it was my own fault for not looking first. Ive also have bought some "pristine" "show quality" cars and although they have been "show quality/perfect" they ran like crap for sitting and never getting started or driven. Simply put every old car needs some kind of work.

IM DEFINATLEY NOT DEFENDING BLACK TIE BECAUSE IVE HEARD NUMEROUS STORYS ABOUT THEM BUT MOST OF THE BLAME LIES WITH MR. WILLIS.

Its bad that crooks rip us off but do a little reseach before writing the check.. AND IF YOU WANT TO INSPECT THE CAR BEFORE PURCHASE AND THEY DONT LET YOU AND YOU STILL WRITE THE CHECK!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAD IT COMING BECAUSE YOUR A MORON.

Re: Bruce Willis suing musclecar dealer in NJ

If he can prove he had 'reason' to trust the seller's word and for that reason did not insist on inspecting the car the seller is clearly at fault. I trusted a very reputable car/engine builder to the tune of $80,000+. That does not convey to him the right to break the law. Breech of contract, theft, fraud etc. is not protected by the fact that the buyer may be less informed than the seller. I'll do my part to rid our hobby of one con artist and I hope Willis does the same.

quick-bowtie 06-03-2007 08:40 PM

Re: Bruce Willis suing musclecar dealer in NJ

I just think people have to own up to some of theyre own faults before this country really goes to heck.. AGAIN I CANT STAND CROOKS BUT THIS ALL FALLS BACK TO DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH.. BTC doesnt have a good rep anywhere so how could he have reason to trust the seller.

I guess its hard for me to understand especially with the coin Willis has.. I wouldnt have the nerve to complain if I didnt do my part on the inspection end.

I'll do my part also to rid the hobby of these a** holes but it seems it would being a never ending battle so it all goes back to buying from someone you know and trust or doing and inspection.

Where ever there is a quick easy dollar the cock roachs will soon follow.. and right now the classic car market and parts market is full of them.

John Bertino is a sheister, I've seen many cars pieced together in his shop and sold for major money. Rumor has it that he and his brother put a bank out of business on a real estate deal gone bad. The man is scum. He is handicapped and I'm pretty sure he works that to his full advantage. I used to work next door to his current location and he "appears" to have really nice cars. Most are pieces of crap with nice paint. This is all my opinion, after dealing with him many years ago I would not give him the time of day.

Re: Bruce Willis suing musclecar dealer in NJ

no. no relation. Black tie has to be the absolute worst classic car dealer in the US. ALL their cars are 100% junk.. I have been there and could not believe their tactacs. I went to look at a Buick GNX when in fact it was a GN in horrible condition. When I told em it was not an X, he agreed. Said he made a mistake. what?
all their cars on the lot have flat tires and rust and weeds grownin up around em.. Horrible liers.. Cars they they ask 10's of thousands are in reality worth $1500..
