Barrett Jackson in palm beach

Looks Like there are some real bargains! The 70 roadrunner , 70 chevelle with the blower and the 55 chevy were steals.

Who cares... Nobody's even paying attention. I didn't even know it was happening until I saw the post, and nobody was talking about it/hyping it up.

Now that I look at results, apparently the big ATM that the boomers also live in and have been using to fund ridiculous purchases has closed for business.

Over-the-top money for subpar cars seems to have moved to a new generation of collectors-- This is evidenced by a '79 Z/28 w/an automatic and vinyl interior going for $25,850? OMG, LMAO is that ever funny... That's $152.06 per hp! And those cars are j-u-n-k.

Hey, a 79 Z may not be a 69 Z, but, they are a very nice cruising Camaro...Heck GM sold a ton of these cars....and to top it off... the quality parts are very tough to come by. Cut them some slack.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

What about the hideous Purple 69 "Roadrunner" with the 440 under the hood?

Looks like a $7,500 car a year or two ago, sold for $30k?

Whew!

[/ QUOTE ] I heard the speech, what I find amazing is that the so called experts kept touting that matching #s meant original, what a joke that is! It is like they never heard of the term restamp or bogus paperwork, trim/vin tag etc. I also heard Mr Jackson state that there is a very high percentage of first time bidders. I hope that they know the difference between the matching # BS vs real because if they don't they will not be buying another musclecar anytime soon when they find out that they just got hosed.

Re: Barrett Jackson in palm beach

I watched this "episode" of the B-J auction with a little
emotional distance. The auction of the Shelby GT-500H put
me in mind that B-J may be in damage control mode.

Let's see: All the fanfare of the unveiling of the Shelby
GT500H. Is this an auto auction of the SEMA show? Shelby
pats Craigy-boy on the back for all his hard work, we get
introduced once again to Craig's mom, Sun-glasses dude is
now the president, bla-bla-bla. And what's with that ever
foreboding arm folded, tight jaw glare from Craig during
the auctions. Has B-J seen its crest? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Perhaps I'm just looking at it with more of a critical
eye, but I think all the announcers on stage were more
guarded of their comments. Anybody else get that sense? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif

Overall, how did the cars do this season? Was their nearly
as much nonsense as Scotsdale?

I will say this much. I saw quite a bit of negativity all
over the forums after Scotsdale and I'm sure many of you did
as well. I only visit a few forums, but if they were any
indication of what was being written ( said ) all over the
web, B-J basically got clobbered. B-j Scotsdale was the
talk of the town for months following the last auction.
How much bad press did they get all together? Tons I'll
bet! It just seemed to get into a free-for-all mode after
a while. Was it just a case of everyone piling on the
winner, or more that people were now willing to vent more
openly?

It sort of put me in mind of what happened to Martha Stewart
after the stock fiasco. Angry people came out of the wood
work to pounce.......

[/ QUOTE ] It is hard to say because there was not a 435 car that I saw that had won any major awards. If anyone has a real red 435 hp convertible that is documented and has its born with drivetrain and will sell it for the 151K that the red one brought yesterday I will buy it ASAP https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif I did see a 66 390hp car that was a Top Flight winner sell for 117K which is pretty strong money for that car. I think owners of great cars have learned a lesson and will not participate in a no reserve auction JMHO.

I am pretty sure, as in 100% sure, the red '67 conv that sold yesterday was a 390hp setup, at least that's what the air cleaner decal showed...

I will say that B-J and muscle car prices were the talk of the car show I attended yesterday. To a man, and woman, everyone applauded the price sanity they hope is here for run of the mill domestics and "tributes", "continuations", "replicas",..or, as one sage commentor called them, "fakey do's".

Real, documented 1967 435's are still strong. Two sales I know of recently are both roadsters and born with engines, one restored one unrestored. I know both cars well. One was at 400K and one was at 275K. Another '67 435 roadster is for sale locally at 200K and is a wonderful, documented, born with engine car.

Re: Barrett Jackson in palm beach

I rode over to PB Saturday on my Victory and it seemed like the magic price bracket was between $70k and $80k. There were some nice rides, but honestly, the quality (IMHO) just wasn't there on many of the cars I looked at. Many of the small things like sanding scratches, trim parts that looked crappy, etc. Very crowded though with lots of people who sure didn't know much about muscle cars. I was there in 2004 and it was much better, this year was kind of disappointing.

Is it odd or is it just me, Foose's cars don't seem to get as much attention at BJ as they deserve. Being that he's IMHO the top builder out there, yet other builders cars (eg Coddingtons Crap) seem to get all if not more than their money. It just seems that BJ has a better working arrangement with every other builder out there except Foose. You would think that the discriminating buyers would be the ones to buy his cars yet they seem overlooked by that crowd???? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

If I were selling the first one of my cars to be built and wanted top money you can bet that I would have been there to promote it .I have personally meet chip at his shop and he showed me around he is a super nice guy

It just seems something is fishy with BJ and Chip. Anywhere else he shows up things run smooth and he and his products are well recieved. i've never met the man but from what i hear about him hes a great guy.

Re: Barrett Jackson in palm beach

What am I missing? Didn't the car bring $395,000.00 plus a buyers premium of 10%. All paid for up front waiting to be built.

Sounds like he did just fine to me?

Chip was there for the Opening night Gala, where he mingled with the crowd and potential buyers. He had an apperance at a show that couldn't be changed. Life's way to short to always have and spread Negative thoughts !!!
