Rarest Olds 442
What year had the least amount of 442 Olds cars?
..What was the rarest of the 442 cars? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: Rarest Olds 442
--------John,,, Absolutely,,,hands down,,,1964 442s were the rarest of all the 442s. They are so hard to find in good original condition today that they seem almost non-existent!!!.......Bill S

Re: Rarest Olds 442
If it's simply the rarest 442 your wondering about, they even made a handful of real '64 442 4 Dr. cars!.
I don't know what production was but seem to recall it was something like 10 or so...I have no idea if any genuine ones survived?. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |
Re: Rarest Olds 442
There were 10 4-doors - I think it's 3 and 7 of probably F85 and Cutlass, or something like that.
But I am not sure the '64s are the rarest. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the latter-day ones are the rarest, but right now I'm putting my money on the '64. |
Re: Rarest Olds 442
how many 1965 442 2door, post cars were built? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Rarest Olds 442
1965 Post 442 production:
1087 F85's 5713 Cutlasses That's from the Olds FAQ; not sure what the original source was. |

Re: Rarest Olds 442
I think that they can be either??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif
|
Re: Rarest Olds 442
Can be either. F85 and Cutlass were trim levels with F85 being the base and Cutlass the upgrade. The 442 was an option package that could be ordered on any 2 door F85 or Cutlass and included the bigger engine, suspension, and badging.
This only goes for 65-67; other years the rules were different. Read all about it- http://oldsjunction.classicoldsmobil...sfaq/of442.htm https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Rarest Olds 442
Wasn't the F85 a lighter car......
|
Re: Rarest Olds 442
------Joe,,,Although possible I dont know how much. The two models vary only in trim and emblems.......Bill S

Re: Rarest Olds 442
All 2 Door sedans are supposed to be lighter than their hardtop brothers..

Re: Rarest Olds 442
I had a 1964 convertible for sale a couple of years ago. Really cool car. It had a 455 but I also had the original engine. Wish I still had it today!
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/show...0/fpart/1/vc/1 I don't know if the link will work so I attached a couple of photos that show the car and the Documentation. I hope this helps. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62...42Exterior.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62...2Exterior1.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62...Exterior18.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62...CopyofDoc6.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62...20442/Doc1.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62...20442/Doc3.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62...20442/Doc4.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62...20442/Doc5.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62...20442/Doc7.jpg |
Re: Rarest Olds 442
I HATE older 442s with those SSII wheels. . . doesn't look right. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Rarest Olds 442
To each his own. I like 7 inch wide SSII's, but hate early skinny SSI's and SSII's and really hate steel wheels and dog dishes.
Nobody would be seen dead driving on the streets with dog dishes back when these cars were new. Most of the ones that had them went straight to the wheel shop and bought Cragar SS, chrome reverse, or others. Even the race cars used fancy wheels (case in point, the real Smothers Brothers cars that Dick Smothers drove. So There. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif |
Re: Rarest Olds 442
Who cares what nobody would be caught dead with? There were plenty of early GTOs with their stock wheelcovers or aftermarket wheels. But thos SSII wheels just look like an anachronism to me. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Aren't the SS11's so popular now because the boneyards are still full of them cheap since they were offered up to '87 or so?. ~ Pete https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: Rarest Olds 442
All I remember is being 16 years old and our orange '72 442 arrived at the dealership with those orange SSII wheels and my jaw dropped. I never saw any car so beautiful in my life. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif

Re: Rarest Olds 442
Interestingly enough, SSII wheels are gray. The colored ones came on the '70 pace cars and, starting in '71, they were called SSIII.

Re: Rarest Olds 442
Yellow painted on the Rallye 350's for 1970 too weren't they?.

Re: Rarest Olds 442
I'm a Chevelle guy, but I have to say that the styling on the 64 Cutlass was much nicer than the 64 Chevelle. Great lines.

Hey Legendary, fill out your user profile. Why be anonymous, unless you are too famous or want to hide from your boss?
If you want to be a seller, list your car in the For Sale forum, or even better, step up like Colin and become a sponsor. Rumor has it that you might have the resources. JMHO |
