Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
I've got some photos of cars I had dealings with in the early 70's, and they're interesting in that they show what gearheads of the time were doing. Wheel choices, stances, modifications and that kind of thing. Some later photos too.
Anyway, on with the show. This first car was owned and built by the guy who ran the Shell station at Vancouver International Airport. It was the first blown street car that I had any dealings with, and it sounded wild. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif I think these photos were Sept. 73. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ownCamaro1.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ownCamaro2.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ownCamaro3.jpg I blew the photo up to try to read the gas price, but couldn't make it out. Check out the oil can display. How long has it been since we bought oil in cans? Enjoy, John |

Keep going!

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
I'll add more this evening.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Whatever the price of gas was in September, it would soon double in early '74, due to the first OPEC lead "oil crises". I'll bet it didn't see much action after that.
Really cool Camaro! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Awesome photos- thanks for sharing https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
Looks like a 75 Malibu in the background of the first pic, so I'd guess that as the date. |
Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Pretty cool Shell station period pic!
I'd like to have those A.O.Smiths,as well as that metal windshield station. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif |
Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Well, I hooked up the scanner to my new laptop, and went round in circles for awhile. I figured out it works a different way on this computer. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif
Anyway, here's the next one. This car was owned by the guy a few houses down from me. He had a string of Hipo Pontiacs ending up with this one. This photo is from 1971. He went through a few Pontiac motors with this car and finally ended up putting a 435 Hp 427 in it. He bought the engine from Lincoln Auto Wreckers just north of Seattle and put a big Holley carb and Edelbrock manifold on it and headers. This car had power everything on it and ran a 13:00 on it's first pass. It was a 4spd car. The custom paint was by 'Boots Pinstriping' in Vancouver BC, and was pretty wild for the time. I'd have to say that this guy had a huge influence on me getting into cars. There were always nice cars hanging around his house, and guys going through the gears as they left. Back then the high riding look was in vogue. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...cars/66GTO.jpg |
Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Awesome! Would be so cool to be able to buy a picture book full of these kinda pics.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
I keep encouraging people to dig out their old photos, even if they only have a couple, so I can scan them.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Here's a side shot of the Cuda that I posted racing in the other thread.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Sorry this one is a little blurry. It's a 67 Beaumont SD396 taken about 1971 at the Vancouver Custom Car Show. Nice color combo, black with red.
Excuse the mega dust particles. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...96Beaumont.jpg |

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
This 427 Biscayne was from Bellingham WA, and I saw it at different events over the years. I think, by the wheels it has on it, that this photo is late 70's, early 80's.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Here's a Vega wagon with some modifications. I think this one was taken at the Hot Rod Nationals in Portland OR.

Sometimes a car just looks great with some period wheels.

An AAR Cuda with ET slots and spinners. Could this be done today? Or would people faint at this blatant sacrilage? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

I'll be adding photos in the coming days. So stay tuned.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
I've been living in Alberta now for about 10 years, so I've lost track of a lot of people and cars in the Pacific Northwest. If my memory serves me correctly, this car appeared in a readers rides section of Hot Rod a few years ago. Other than that I can't tell you much more. It was a cool car, and for sale at one time, but he hung onto it as he didn't get the money he wanted. I looked at it myself but thought it was too much at the time. I have lots of 'kicking myself' bruises.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Here was a pro street Camaro built by a friend. Can't remember too much about it though, other than the rather daring color. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
This one looks more like a race car than a street car. I saw this one sitting in Port Moody BC in the late 70's.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Heres a few of my dad's old cars... the first 2 are of his hugger orange 56 Chevy with shortened side trim. In the background of the 2nd pic you can see my uncle's 3 day old 70 Roadrunner. He still owns it today, and its as nice as it was in 70.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
A bit blurry... (sorry), but here's his 69 Nova, taken probably around 1970. That's my mom in the foreground. Note the "Novacane" hand painted front vanity tag.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Here's his 66 Elco, hugger orange, black top, Wide Tread Goodyears. Taken sometime around 68-69.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Dad's International Blue '68 Corvette Convertible, 5 slot mags, Formula 1 SuperStock rear tires, 69 side exhaust. Circa 1970-71. He owned this one til about 1986.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Dad bought this one brand new...68 Chevelle SS, custom Motion style hood. Circa late 68.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
This one's my favorite of dad's old cars... 69 Nova with some "upgrades". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
That's pretty cool. All of them have been Hot Rodded or upgraded. That one of your mom and the Nova almost looks like a brochure photo.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
Man Joe your dad had some real iron in those days! A great collection of muscle. Don't you wish you had all of them today? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
It looks flared to me too. Years ago when you went to look at a car, and the fenders were flared, you knew it was to repair rust. I'm not saying that in this case, but that seemed to be the way rust was dealt with back then.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
I found a couple more photos of friends cars. This would be 1982 or 83.
This 67 Pro Street car belonged to a friend in White Rock, BC. I don't remember much about it anymore. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...oChevelle1.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...oChevelle2.jpg http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...oChevelle3.jpg |

Fairgrounds at Vancouver WA.

Re: Day 2 or 3 cars. Photos
I hope this qualifies.
It's not an old photo but a current one of an original "Day 2" '69 Hemi Roadrunner with a 4-Speed. This car looks just the same as it did when I was a kid in the 70s and 80's. Here I was back in the day at Vargo. Ran the snow tires because they were softer compound than my street tires! |
