OK, Finally, Jerry MacNeish Coming to town...

OK Guys,

Finally was able to get a commitment from Mr. MacNeish today. He will be coming to the New Orleans area sometime in the next few weeks.

Everyone who emailed me from late last year, if you are still interested, let me know. I need to email him a list of cars and names. I think some of you Mississippi guys were interested as well.

Email or PM me if interested. List so Far:

1. My 1970 COPO Z
2. Casey's 69 Z28
3. Mr. Lindsay's 1969 COPO (former reggie jackson car)
4. Craig T's 1970 Z

Curious, With all the cars Jerry certifies, how many are actually worth less due to all the faults being listed? The perfect cars would be worth what percentage more? and do people do this because they are not sure or is it like getting a coin or baseball card graded? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif

I was kind of wondering the same thing Sam. What exactly does "certify" mean? Could someone explain the process?

How you doing Verne. I'm a bit confused about this too. I guess it means when you give someone money to verify and get a certificate that states "yep, you own a Camaro, Chevelle, whatever." I'm willing to do the same thing for much cheaper.

Re: OK, Finally, Jerry MacNeish Coming to town...

I think it falls under at the time the car is looked at it has all the correct parts and dates and a real Z,SS,LM-1, etc.

with so many bogus cars today, its money well spent if the car is nice and you dont want to have to try and prove its one way or the other when you sell . https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

Re: OK, Finally, Jerry MacNeish Coming to town...

Jerry is a expert in the camaro field he is also a judge he is able to spot a clone or a restamp and other hidden issues so if jerry looks at your car and says its a true z28 or l78 or a copo then it brings the value up as for looking at what is wrong with the car he will tell you and give you a piece of paper with what needs to be changed such as a incorrect dist or a fan he is not there to make your car worth less he just helps you restore to its original status and by using him you will not invest a lot of money into that car you thought was a z 28 but turns out to be a grandmas camaro with a 6 cyl or buy a car with a fake protecto plate or documents

I agree, having an expert in the field look at/inspect/certify your car is money well spent!!! Even more so, if you have him/her do this prior to purchase

OK,
Looks like we have a good group of cars, eight or so. Also, we plan on taking Jerry out for some Nawlins seafood, so if anyone lives close enough and wants to join us, let me know.

Isn't this the reason Ed C. is in trouble for??? Docing a car is pretty serious if it turns out to be fake later down the road... Ted

So should nobody doc a car for fear of trouble down the road??

Mike,
I agree with you that it pays to have an expert inspect your car so you know what you really have or don't have. I am very pleased with the results of the recent inspection you did on my 66 Chevelle SS. Now I know what (minor) items I need to do to bring this car to a top level status. Thanks again for sharing your expertise with me and the many others in the hobby. PS you don't charge enough for what you do!

Mike is a godsend for us '66 Chevelle owners...I think I've asked him at least 100 questions...And I'm sure that there will be more!

Hey Dave...take that red beast for a cruise around your block!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Re: OK, Finally, Jerry MacNeish Coming to town...

I'm curious, What is to stop the criminal element from getting a certification, selling the real car without it to someone who knows the car is real without needing a document and then making a fake and using the paperwork on that? Or even just selling off parts after the certification and then selling the car with the papers? Does Jerry take photos with a dated newspaper in the picture? In the days of the internet and people buying sight unseen on someones word does this make these certification papers an absolute proof and something you would bet all of your money on? I believe as technology gets more and more advanced, people can and will have the ability to make exact duplicate parts that even experts will not be able to differentiate from the real parts. At this point would it matter? I think it would to most.

Re: OK, Finally, Jerry MacNeish Coming to town...

I think Jerry keeps records of cars he certifies. If a cert comes up, you can always call him and ask if it is one of his (ie VIN).

Ok, this is a great example of what I was saying. So, you find a car on EBAG and it says certified by Jerry, you call him and he says he saw the car four years ago. Now, do you trust that everything is exactly as he looked at it four years ago. How do you know if the owner swapped anything out in that time or even blew the motor and dropped in a restamp? I think the certification is more for the owners piece of mind than anything else.

Re: OK, Finally, Jerry MacNeish Coming to town...

Yes, I suppose items could be swapped out, but at least you would know that it was a "real" car as opposed to a "clone". In that respect, I think that it would help in a buyer/seller situation.
IMHO,
Rich
