Paint Code
Hello, I have a 68 427 Biscayne and it has no paint code. I was wondering if anybody could offer any suggestions on what this might mean. My paint code on my cowl tag is just 3 dashes - "---". I have included a link to a pic of the tag. I was also told that the car originally came from Dana Chevrolet in LA, but I have no proof of that. I do not have the build sheet either. Thanks for any comments. Biscayne Cowl Tag

Re: Paint Code
Special paint code. Means the car was ordered in a color other then what was standard for the car and year.
What color is the car? It's nice to see things like this. Rick H. |
Re: Paint Code
Cool...and three dashes not two!.
Is it an L72 car or L36...and a stick?. How hard have you searched for a build sheet?. Pics?!. ~ Pete https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...-I-Have-It.gif |
Re: Paint Code
Looks like it's a 4 speed...and hugger orange, too!
Way cool! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Paint Code
You guys wanted pics? Here they are!!
http://webpages.charter.net/josiebosie/chevy/ I was told by the original owner that it was an L72 4-speed, but I have no build sheet to prove it. It also has the Bendix four piston disk brakes up front along with the F41 supension with a 4.56 rear end... As for the build sheet, I have looked under the carpet, the seats have been reupholstered and they did not find the built sheet then. The gas tank is not orginal either. So I am at a loss on how to authticate the car. It's not that big a deal since I bought the car to enjoy. It would be nice to know so I could return the car to exactly what it was when it left the factory. Thanks for the comments! Rob M. |

Re: Paint Code
Rob,
Welcome aboard....a very nice "Post Sedan" indeed. Your daughter is charming too. I sent you a P.M. Dan. |
Re: Paint Code
Has it always been orange or do you know? If you are unsure you may be able to find traces under the edge of the trunk opening or the bottom of the package tray.

Re: Paint Code
James...if you look at a few of his pics...it looks like the orange is around the tranny tunnel...under the padding for the carpeting...if that makes sense? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Paint Code
As far as I know that is the original color. I had some minor dings fixed, and my body man thought that was the original color. If you look on the underside of the trunk deck lid behind some of the panels it is orange in there too. I was "told" that is was raced quite a bit and that may account for the different color.
I talked briefly to Dick Guldstrand from Dana Chevrolet and he said that would not be surprising for a special order car coming through his dealer ship with a paint code delete. Obviously he does not remember the car though. Again, thanks for the great comments - My daughter is my greatest supporter!! Rob M. |
