Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
My earliest recollections of a car was my dads '62 BelAir that he purchased new at Nickey Chevrolet (my cousin was the assistant service manager there 'til '69). Of course dad couldn't afford a 409 on top of his $115.00 per month mortgage payment, but I know he would have loved one. For twelve years we got to know Bessie which is what he named it. So many fond memories that I put out a request to find a nice original 409 to go with some of my other unrestored original cars for old times sake. Fast forward to a year and a half ago, I was out of the country when I received a call from a friend of mine telling me about the car I was looking for on Ebay. As soon as I got to port, I got on a computer and got right on the phone to make a deal on this car. It is 100% original right down to the dated shocks. A good friend of mine who knows these '62s well did the clean up on it and was amazed at the cars originality. Everthing that was taken off for hot rodding, was put in the trunk of the car and is now back in place.
Dad would have loved this one Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR There are LOTS of pics! Enjoy! WOW https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif !!!! I would say Chris' sYc username is very appropriate. What a beautiful car https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif If the rest of the cars in that building also belong to Chris, I would say Members Rides has a lot of future material.

We're heading up to Chris's candy store on Saturday to see all the fun stuff. Should be a fun day of cars and burgers.
The L78 Chevelle will be there and the 409. It will be good to see the '67 Z28 again. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |

Re: Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
-----Chris,,,As you know, I love the car. Actually my favorite part is the 380hp part. How many 380hp cars were there, and how many guys never converted thier cars to dual quads after they bought em??? I suspect very few. Ill bet that a 380hp was every bit the equal of a 409hp, especially if the dual-quads wernt synchronized quite right.
-----Guys,,,The building these cars are displayed in is affectionatly refered to as the "garagemahal". I have spent a few nights there in the apartment connected to the room you see and it is a surreal experience. As you watch the big screen you turn your head about 15 degrees and can look out the french doors at the display room bathed in a dim light. It doesnt get any better!.......Bill S |
Re: Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
Isn't it nice of me to let Chris keep his car in my garage, I don't even charge him any rent...... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif

Re: Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
Thanks Bill, I don't know the facts and figures, but I've been told that less than 600 of the "Bubbletops" came equipped with a 409. No idea how many of those were 380hp, or how many were black/red.

Re: Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
Now...this is a true Survivor. One that should always remain in this condition. Truly stunning.

Re: Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
Actually......If anyone remembers Bill Bretz......He had an exact copy of that car (Except he had the two 4 barrel version) that he used to race at the International Amphitheater back when that was going on......He was a GM mechanic at the time and had the fastest car around at the time..........It came down to Bretz or a guy named Clyde Hopper who had a Max wedge car at the time as to who would win for the day..........The Bretz 409 was stolen soon after......Bill continued Drag Racing into the late 60's after partnering with Bill Lucky....Cool Times https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
Very nice bubble! Takes me back to when I was about 13 or so. My Uncle and his good friend were building 62-63 Impala SS 409 cars in the mid 80's. That was my first real car ride! We went out (4 of us in the car) and they were 'easy' on the motor. Stepping through each stage of the dual carb setup and the nose appeared to be rising to the sun. I think the imprint of my back is still in the back seat! I have always appreciated what these cars are and what they represent. Congrats on a beautiful piece of history. And since no one has asked yet.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...-I-Have-It.gif

Re: Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
Bob, I think I'm still a kid, just buying different kinds of parts and cars other than Corvettes. I have the Corvettes I want. You knew my dad, and know he would have loved all this stuff! Chris

Re: Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
I just found out this week that the car was purchased new at Rampy Chevrolet in Ann Arbor Michigan. Any dealer memorabilia would be great! Anyone local remember this car from the drag strips? Thanks! Chris

Re: Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
Great car!! I love the color combo....wish I had one of everything with Black Exterior and Red interior. That's alot of car to get whoa'd down with a single master cylinder.
Awesome Garage as well! |
Re: Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
Well, we went to the "garagemahal" today and saw the 409, I haven't seen it since Chris first got it and it looked good then. It went off for light cleaning and light buffing and it looks amazing now, just a fantastic original car. But what good is looking without a ride? It drove great, even with the skinny tires. We piled in the big car and hit the road. We could have driven it to California it was so smooth. The other cars looked great, haven't seen the '67 Z since Vettefest and it was a treat. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Re: Chris Piscitello- SIR_VIVOR's '62 Bubbletop 409
Chris, What a great car.I have had the pleasure of owning a 62 Bubbletop 409/409 car, but not as nice nor original as yours. I have a favor to ask. A good friend of mine has a 62 Bel Air 409/380 HP car. He has had a tough time locating the correct air cleaner base plate and correct carb. Any chance you could post a picture of the base and carb, or PM them to me? Would help greatly in the search, as many he has been offered have not been correct. Thanks, Marc

Will do Marc, I'm in the middle of a move, but when I catch up I'll send some pics. Chris
