Does this look like Fathom Blue to You??
1 Attachment(s)
I am restoring a 70 Fathom Blue Nova. My body man painted the car according to paint chips and the recipe that the paint supply store mixed for him based on their information. I am kinda color blind and the color does not look dark enough to me. May be the camera and light but no matter how many pics I take they look the same color, almost a greenish tint. I am attaching a couple of pics for your comments. Don't want to get too far into assembly to find color is not right. Thanks.

Re: Does this look like Fathom Blue to You??
Looks fairly close to me, the '70 fathom blue is not as dark as the '68 fathom blue. Just tell your paint guy to paint the top of the cowl black - not blue!!! I'm not sure what the carpet insulation is hanging behind the back seat for though.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

I will convey the info on the cowl color. Thanks. I have some pics of the engine compartment, engine, front clip, trunk, etc. that I would like for a Nova guru to look at and critique before the fenders are installed. Any interested parties that would like to review these and rip me an new one in the process please email me and I will forward for your review. I am trying to do this right. Thanks. Uh Oh..That looks like code 26 Mulsanne Blue metallic to me.
Fathom Blue metallic is code 28,and is a lil darker compared to it. Ask your jobber what paint formula he used and double check it against this.. 1970 COLORS I'm not a Nova guru, but I might be able to help on your L-78 engine details. Can you email pics to me at [email protected] |
Re: Does this look like Fathom Blue to You??

This is Mulsanne Blue. Yours looks closer to Fathom Blue.

Re: Does this look like Fathom Blue to You??
This is code 28 on a 70 Buick we did a few years ago. The color does have a green tint to it.

Re: Does this look like Fathom Blue to You??
Personally I think its close. I think the fact you took it in a dark garage with the flash right there it washed it out a bit...Out in the the natural sunlight it will look better https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Does this look like Fathom Blue to You??
I agree with Marlin. I think you're pretty close. You're in a dark building with a flash going off. Send me the pics, and the mixing code your guy used.
See if somebody can post some pics of Jensens fb deuce from the reunion. It's pretty close to correct except that it's deeper, and glossier because of it being bc/cc. We'll see if your mixing code is the same as ours. If not we'll send you ours. NPHNP https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |

NPHNP https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif [/ QUOTE ] My guy used PPG system, OEM code 28, mixing code 2166 which consists of: M122 blue, M135 metalic, M134 violet and M117 jet black along with the clear (percentages of each color can be supplied if necessary). He used a suction gun vs gravity to disperse the metllic more evenly. How does this compare with your mixture? |
Re: Does this look like Fathom Blue to You??
We use Dupont, or Sikens. We'll see what we come up with. I'll have to talk to the painter. He's a member here, just bad Joe. Their computer is down at the shop. Otherwise we'd pm him from here.

Re: Does this look like Fathom Blue to You??
We used the standard Dupont chroma premier formula. No tweaks, or tints on Jensen. I though I had a can around here, but Jensen has it. Will try to come up with the mixing code to compare with yours.

Re: Does this look like Fathom Blue to You??
You have 4 toners, and so does the dupont. They check out basicly the same. Dupont code is 5124F. Maybe have a dupont jobber mix you up a pint, and do a spray out card. In house mixing can have errors. There's also some variences in the tecnique, and gun applications. Personally, I think your well in the park.
JIP, I have seen 7 Lemans blue camaros at Vettfest done by some of the best in the country, and they all were just a little bit different. |
