69 COPO Camaro on Epay
Check out the Burnished Brown 69 COPO Camaro on the Bay. FYI, this "IS NOT" the Brown one that sold at B-J lot 1268.1
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet...1QQcmdZViewItem It says it was owned by Reggie #44 Jackson. Why does it have a 140 speedo and 14" XT type wheels with Doggie caps ?? Also this is a 11A car vin 695386, is that late for a COPO ? Check out the cowl tag rivets, is that the flat bottom of the (repo?) rivet I can see ? Also on the PNT line on the tag it lists the color as 61 F. Check me on this but doesn't F = a brown top ? Mike |
Re: 69 COPO Camaro on Epay

Re: 69 COPO Camaro on Epay
I believe this car has been discussed several times. Do a search here on the VIN.

Re: 69 COPO Camaro on Epay
Didnt see this post I just listed one 2..amazing how these people work someone just got SCREWED!! Hasnt the car been forsale forever for 80k with the history being disclosed and now someone pays 215k for whats suppose to be a great car lol.. Definately a law suit in the making there.

Re: 69 COPO Camaro on Epay
I doubt this car changed hands. Look at the bid list, jumped from 80 to 215, and bidder's feedback is 0.

Re: 69 COPO Camaro on Epay
I see my old Cuda sitting there also he wants 1 mill. I thought the 500k at Barrett was very fair money for the car..I would have hated to pay that commision to buy it back, Ouch Ouch Ouch..I talked to the guy at Barrett, Dont know if its the guy who has the ebay account or if he has it consigned with someone. Either way that COPO has been in Texas and the Story is well known someone should tell him to call Wagners and get the story if he already doesnt know.

Re: 69 COPO Camaro on Epay
This car was bought originally from Reggie back in '95 or '96 by a guy here in Columbus. Nightmere experience as I recall, and everybody had the same questions then as they do now.
The guy who owned it got rid of it within a year of owning it, and bought a Shelby 500. I don't recall the rivets looking like that, but it's been awhile. |
Re: 69 COPO Camaro on Epay
There was a very good clone around about five years ago ( supposedly previously owned by Reggie Jackson ) that looked very similar to this car. The car I am refering to ended up in the hands of Dennis Tuttle who tried selling it as the real deal.

Re: 69 COPO Camaro on Epay
easiest way to tell the "clone" in question is to look at the door hinges and hood hinges etc..Rick Dyer had them all cadium plated when he built the car back in 1990. I have not seen any pics of this cars hinges but last i saw the clone they were still plated. As i recall Rick found the car in either GA or WV in a junkyard and noticed the burnished brown paint and said he wondered if it could have been my Dads RS COPO, it turned out to be a COPO but not an RS. He bought the car or rather what was left of it as it was rotted beyond restoration and rebodied it and showed it as a COPO but not a numbers matching car. He openly admitted to all that it was a rebodied car and not original but i as understand it was later sold as an original. Its a real shame that out of 500 built 2000 survived "so to speak" but i guess its the nature of the beast when big bucks are being spent on these rare cars.I know the clone car well as i had helped Rick put on the final touches when he finished building it and had we have known then the dishonesty that would become of this car im sure he would have done a few things different. My Dad had a 69 COPO RS in burnished brown back in 1969 that he purchased through a friend that worked for GM, they bought it from Merolis Chevrolet in East Detroit Michigan. We found one of the 2 photos that my dad recalls having of the car and unfortunatly it does not tell much other than the color etc..The car was sold in roseville michigan in 1972 and we have been unable to obtain any info on the car since. The friend that my dad bought the car with said a guy called him several years back and claimed to have the car minus the engine, trans and front clip but he didnt want to be bothered with the guy so he kinda blew it off.If anyone knows of this car or if you think you know someone who may have it please feel free to email me as any info would be most appreciated

Re: 69 COPO Camaro on Epay
Azmoom67.....Can we be clear that what he did was take a trim tag from a car in a wrecking yard and put it on another body ? When he switched the trim tag did he also use the vin tag off the junk car ? Were the hidden vins altered on this car ?

Re: 69 COPO Camaro on Epay
Charley, Im sure he swapped the trim tags im NOT sure as to any hidden VIN tags, i never did agree with the whole car. I told him it should have stayed in the junkyard as it was not even a whole car.As i recall the engine was correct but not original, i think the intent behind the car was to inspire my dad to find his RS and relive the old days? those guys seem to be stuck on the summer of 1970.
PJ, I AGREE TOTALLY!!! the guy who bought the car with my dad was a GM tech employee and he had to keep the car in his name for a short time (just to get it) but it was actually my dad who owned it.The guys name is Mike and he was always more of a pontiac guy and didnt really ever have an interest in the COPO. My dad said he spoke with mike several years ago and told him that my dad (Ken Sr.) was the one who actually owned it etc..and basically told the guy "good luck" and that was it.We have not really associated with mike for many years and he really didnt know where my dad was and was not really interested in helping the guy find him. I would help ANYONE who was in need of info that i have access to (as a fellow car guy), but some just couldnt care any less <shrug>. COPO, My dad and his ole buddies have MANY stories about the COPO and they are awesome stories indeed. Some of them i can recall but i was very young at the time so i wasnt around as much as i wish i had been. One of my favorites is one that i have heard by MANY so i have no reason to doubt it. Apparently Bill Jenkins (Grumpy)actually nicknamed the COPO "lil grump" at detroit dragway back in 1969 after it stopped the clocks @ 11:60 . He also gave my dad many tips on wheel hop and how to cut the valve guides down to prevent pulling valves. One thing for sure is if we ever find the car it should be easy to ID from the welding that was done to the rear axle and the frame connectors that my dad made etc.. Ken |

I finally got the pic scanned of my dads car, it was taken in the summer of 69 in detroit. he found this pic about 10yrs ago in his tool box, not a great pic but the car was only a few months old at the time and after a few mods. It is the real deal. http//azmoon67.110mb.com/copo/images/69copocam.jpg
