Price Opinions
I have a guy here in town that wants to buy one of my cars. It is a 68 Camaro with a 69 427 with rect port heads and factory intake, M-22 and 12 bolt, Hooker super comps, custom exhaust etc. It is a put together car from a nice original never rusted California car (base car not SS or RS). Matador Red (original color), Black interior (original) nice original trunk, good quality base/clear finish. Has a day 2 look about it. I have been offered $30000.00. Does that sound about right? Any opinions? Thanks for any help. I really don't have a need to sell it and would replace it with something but I have no idea what I would get.

Re: Price Opinions
Unless you have some idea of what you would want to replace it with, and how much THAT would cost you, I'd say you should probably hang on to what you have.
|
Re: Price Opinions
I don't think you could build another one for that price. 30 sounds a little low to me.
|
Re: Price Opinions
30k seems like good/fair money to me.. Im sure if you looked around you could find a few others compairable for that price..
|
Re: Price Opinions
I agree with Bow-tie...if it were mine and I wanted to sell it, I would consider $30K all the money.

Re: Price Opinions
Yeah, you guys are right. I always pay too much for my stuff.

Re: Price Opinions
Bill, hard to value the quality of the fit and finish on your car from the peanut gallery...but you can't build much of anything today for less than 30k....a solid base car that needs paint and normal bodywork is going to cost 10-15k...that doesn't count driveline, interior, and all the little stuff...how about this for an answer..if I gave you a check for 30k could you find and buy another car equal to yours????? if so...if not....the hats in there, you find it.

I know the Nova I put together cost a lot more than 30 to build. If someone offered me 30 for, no way would I sell it for that. |
Re: Price Opinions
Most of the time we all overspend in buying/putting these cars together. If we spend to much on parts and the restos that does not mean the car is worth that. If you are comfortable with the price and not worried about replacing the car, than sell it. Maybe in a couple years you can buy it back for less. $30,000 does not sound to bad to me for a base 68 with a BB in it. I think the buyer and seller would do ok.

Re: Price Opinions
Thank you for the replies. This guy who wants the car has purchased a car from me before so he knows what he is getting, it is a nice car. I just don't know what I can get to replace it in that price range......my guess is not too much? My first thought was that this is decent money and the market seems to be a little soft so I might be able to do OK on picking up something new. Now I don't know.

Re: Price Opinions
Bill, I would say that both groups here are correct...yes, $30K is good money for the car and, yes, you would likely struggle to build another for $30K! That's always the problem with building cars...especially when they are not high dollar, rare models. Being upside down is almost always the outcome https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif If you don't need the money or aren't looking for a change, then don't sell it.

Re: Price Opinions
Mark. Fortunately this project is not "upside down". However, if I keep improving it I am sure I will get there. Anyone know what is out there for $30-40000? I have no interest in rusted or formerly rusted cars. Thanks for all the help.

Re: Price Opinions
Bill, I think 30-40,000 is a good range to be in. Maybe take a ride to Atantic City auction in February. Usually get some pretty decent cars there. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Sam

Re: Price Opinions
Bill, nice small block SS cars and low horse Chevelle BB's are in that range and make great drivers. I'm considering one myself https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Re: Price Opinions
Thanks for all the advice. Right or wrong decision I don't know, but the car is sold. I decided to sell the car at this time as it was still a financial winner and I think non documented, and certainly non original cars are generally not a good investment. I still had a list of things I wanted to do to the car that would have cost a lot and not added much to the value. I am now in the hunt for a 68 L78 Camaro or a 70 Z28. I think the 68 is a dream that will probably never happen as the price for something good may be out of reach. The 70 Z is a possibility.
