New member - old Motion fan
I am new to this site, just discovering it a few weeks ago. Having grown up on the island some of my finest memories are of week nights and Saturday afternoons in Baldwin Chevrolet's showroom drooling over the Motion cars! I have read every page of postings and downloaded all the pictures to my Motion file.
I remember a gloomy fall afternoon watching 2 '69 Motion Camaro's coming out of the service door. Both cars were 427's one having an era custom green and white flip flop paint job. They were being driven down to North Carolina to the new owners. The mechanics were joking regarding the likelihood of both making the trip unscathed with the big cams & steep gears. I have a bunch of slides from 67-69 at Islip and West Hampton that I need to go through, I know there are some Motion cars in there. I'll need to have some prints made to scan and send in. I'm attaching a picture of the Astoria-Chas vette taken out at Hampton and an article on the Ribbon Camaro I had not seen posted. Thanks again for the GREAT memories!!! |

Re: New member - old Motion fan
I don't have a scanner here.
I can take a digital pic close up,but past experience has shown me you won't be able to read the text on your screen, regardless how close I get, even if I set it on Macro. Maybe somebody else more technologically adorned can help? |

Re: New member - old Motion fan
Got my issue today. Very cool to have Joel sharing these stories! Dog427, welcome to the site. Do you know if you have any slides of fullsize cars (Impala Biscayne etc)? We have a 68 SS427 convertible sold new at Baldwin.

I'll be going through the slides this weekend - I remember a '69 Camaro and a Chevelle - but I'm not sure of what pictures I have of what.
Your '68 sounds great - I had a '66 Impala SS L72 - 427/425 4 spd that saw a lot of action at Hampton. Was not a Baldwin car though |

Thanks for posting the ones of your L72 66. I wonder if that car is still around somewhere.. Along with the convertible we also have this one, a 68 SS427 L72 hardtop. This one is from O'keefe Chevrolet in Riverhead. It's very unique as it has the cowl plenum air cleaner setup. I look forward to seeing whatever you dig up https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Re: New member - old Motion fan
Steves family has quite a collection of SS427 Impalas. All you are missing is a '67 SS427. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif Very neat collection to say the least.

Nice stable of SS's! Love those big blocks!
I let mine go around 1970 - When I ran slicks it was ripping the trailing arm mounts off the bottom of the car and tearing out the trans crossmember mounts. After blowing the rear and tearing off another trailing arm I stuck it in a friends garage for a couple months then traded it for a velvet vette. I haven't seen it in 30 years - but who knows? It was a true DAILY DRIVER as the attached picture shows - thats me in the middle of the street. |
Re: New member - old Motion fan
I'll shed some first hand light on the "COPO" Vette,
MY father worked for Custom Auto Collision that is displayed on the quarter panel.late 60's. My dad was very good friends(goombas) with "GENE COPOBIANCO" aka Gino, Owner of COPO motors, I recall going down to hang out at the shop many a saturday while the car was being prepped by my dad for paint as gino was not a very patient man when it came to such things, the shop was located in astoria queens under the "EL" the day it was to have the paint started my father decides to exercise the big block while it had some puny painter tires on it, i think this scenario was later used in the french connection movie, but the car returned unscathed, as is the way friends go their seperate ways and i only saw the car once again after it was painted,(picture does not do it justice) at National Speedway in Center Moriches, by now I was class racing my 66 cuda, Gino remembered me and allowed me to stroll the pits in the car, I belive the pic here is in the far end of the pits after the ticket booth, along side Graham road. As a side note I have lived within walking distance of MOTION since 1975. |
Re: New member - old Motion fan
