new 68 hemi dart
I was reading a Mopar mag that my wife bought for me
and found Mr Norms new killer 68 . take a look. http://www.moparaction.com/Next/next.html Peter |
Re: new 68 hemi dart
I like the concept and technology involved, but the finished product does little for me. The bling wheels are an attempt to attract the younger crowd, but are too much of a contrast with the original GSS look. Still, for me, the best Darts are the '68 S/S's. Very raw, very capable.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif

I've been fortunate enough in my life to experience these things up-close and personal a number of times.............. the REAL ones! I can recall as clearly as if it were yesterday, the first time I saw a Hemi Dart. They fired it up to back it off the trailer and the first thought through my head was, "This thing is gonna fall apart!" The engine shook every piece of that car. Acid dipped sheetmetal, aluminum, plexiglas, cheap lightweight seats, straps to raise/lower the windows........'bare-bones' to the third power. God they were COOL! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Do 'em this way Mr. Norm! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |

Re: new 68 hemi dart
Dennis,
Been lamenting about (lusting for) these cars for some time. Fellow who makes these (1st picture in this thread) is Greg Fernald local to Phx area. He has been doing these cars for a few years now. His work is remarkable. I tortured myself again this January by approaching him at the Pavillions and kicking around the notion of building one for me (I can dream). He even uses the tried and true Hurst method of "adjusting" the rear wheel opening and well with the good ol' mark I- mod O sledge hammer - albeit with a little more finesse. With the epa restrictions for annual emmissions testing revised here in AZ, I have fantasized with the notion of building a tru 12.5 : 1 CR Hemi Dart. He will build either a 426ci/600 HP, 472/650 HP, or 528/750 HP Hemi coupled to your choice of tranny, coupled to a Dana 60. Notice the plate below? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Can u say "counterweight"?..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...2/DSC03749.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...-I-Have-It.gif |

Re: new 68 hemi dart
Bruce - YOU ARE CORRECT!!! Decent fellow to talk to. He is VERY big on getting the car to the customer in a timely fashion.

Re: new 68 hemi dart
Did Dodge produce any Hemi Darts in 69? I remember seeing one in a magazine years ago, cannot remember which one but being raced by the late Dick Landy that had the 69 grill and Hemi Dart on the rear bumble bee stripe.

Re: new 68 hemi dart
Rick
would be nice to own one, Killer !!I got a chub when I saw the car. However its not as nice as my 68 Camaro 427 legend. nice to see you on the site Peter https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: new 68 hemi dart
No '69 Hemi Darts, but there were '69 440 GTS cars built by Hurst that year. All were raced in '69, and factory cars often received "facelifts" to make them current. I have a picture of Shirley Shahan's Drag On Lady Dart with a '69 grille. I'm pretty sure the Sox and Martin '68 Hemi Barracuda was updated to '69 trim, and I'm sure Landy was given the parts as well. Sox and Martin's '67 Belvedere RO23 was trimmed out as a GTX, per Chrysler's marketing concerns. AMC had a changeover kit to turn the '69 SS AMX's into '70's. I know that sometimes the governing bodies didn't accept the updated sheetmetal for certain class requirements.

Re: new 68 hemi dart
there was a guy there last Jan'06 with one of Gary's cars and it had the hotter motor on race gas...gave you goose bumps...I was grabbing for my wallet to...but dangit it was a tad thin for the purchase. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Re: new 68 hemi dart

Re: new 68 hemi dart
I'll stick with the old skool Hemi Dart, thanks. They're all business with no bling necessary!
Man 'O Man would I love to take one of those down the 1320. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif |
Re: new 68 hemi dart

I have kin folks in and around Mount Joy. Cousins in Mount Joy are on Park Ave. Grandfather grew up there. Is the "SUSQ" moniker any reference to the local "creek" out your way? Concur on "old skool Hemi Dart"! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
