Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
hmmmmm... the stamping on the block looks familiar, hasn't this been here before? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Moti...1QQcmdZViewItem Vehicle Description This auction is for a very rare 1970 nova SS 396/375 motion performance car. I bought this car 6 months ago and the car had been stored apart for about 12 years. I thought what I had aquired was a matching number 396/375 4 spd car. After contacting the third owner I found out car was a motion performance car. He bougth this car in the mid 80's form the second owner who had brought the car from NJ. I have since found out car was indeed from NJ. Car was delivered Dec 1st 1969 to a Atkin;s Chevrolet in Wayne NJ. I have not been able to find the second or first owner. The Chevrolet dealer is no longer Atkins they were bought out 12 years ago as a result from owner's death. As you can see in the pictures the engine is stamped motion performance on back of block. There is also some other 4 digit numbers stamped on both heads and front of block. I found out that these numbers were the 4 last digits of the work order when car was done at Motion. When I aquired this car, I notice that it had alot of high performance parts on it. The car still has the holley 3 barrel intake along with holley 3 barrel carb. Other parts are scatter shield, hurst comp shifter bent for console car. Car has aluinum et rear end cover 2 holes in right side of trunk where electric fuel pump was mounted and lines went through trunk. The third owner said car had traction bars on it when he sold it but I do not have them. I have started a frame off restoration and have all pictures of car. I have aquired alot of parts. I have a set of NOS motion emblems in the original MP package and I have nos et rear end cover, mr gasket fly eye air cleaner, motion valve covers, nos mallery coil (correct time period). The engine has been completely rebuilt and balancd and run on a dyno. I have all parts that came out of engine. I have talked with Joel Rosen and have emailed him photo's of what I have (engine and parts and car) he responded and said it looks like his work. I have not sent him the $2000.00 as of Jan 07 for him to document. He does have copy's of pictures of what I have. I have lost interest in this project and have decided to try it on ebay. This is most definetly the rarest car you will find. How many of these cars are for sale. I am going to offer it for one time only if it does not sell I will finish it. I have all interior and sheet metal to put it back togther. Pictures show car on rotisory. Car was stripped down to metal and primed. Call me if you need to know what all I have. 912-337-2647 and ask for Robby Buyer agrees to pay a $1000.00 deposit and balance with in 10 days. Buyer also agrees to arrang pick up and shipping of car. I welcome bidders to come and inspect car before bidding. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |

Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Hi, I am new to your site. I have the motion nova listed on ebay and yes I listed a 68 yenko a couple of years ago on ebay for a friend on mine in my home town. It was not a fake car he just sold it in Dec to a yenko builder in Chicgo. I canceled the auction because he changed his mind about selling it at the time. In fact the buyer who bought it was one of the bidders from back then who kept after him to sell untill he did. Now to next question. This is the same car that you had on your forum several months ago about the stampings on engine. I listed car to see if I might generate some information about original owner. I would sell it for right price. If anybody has any info on car I would really appreciate it. Motion396nova

Welcome to the site Motion396. Hopefully you can get a bit of expert info here!

Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
I thought this was 'lowmile's car? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
|
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
It was, I bought this car about six months ago from him.
|
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Also when I bought it from him, the engine and bell housing were still attached. The guys at the engine shop when rebuildinging engine found the motion perf. stamp on back of motor. How sweet was that!!
|
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
In lowmiles previous post...actually in his first post about this Nova...it shows the motion engine stamp...see HERE!
|
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
I'm pretty sure lowmile knew the motion connection due to the pics he posted.
Why didn't lowmile or you get the 'joel letter'? |
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Ok here is as brief of history as I can come up with.
I heard of a BB 375/hp 4sp project car, in Columbus Ga., about 3 years ago and went to take a look. It was a matching # project Engine and trans TOGETHER (Important part) in the car. He had bought the car just like that in the early 90's and it sat in that condition. I passed on the car. Fast forward to about August 2005. BB Novas are going up and I call to check up on said car. It's still there. I buy and bring home. The FIRST time the car was mentioned here was here https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/show...fpart/all/vc/1 I listed the car for sale here as a BB project I wanted to start the engine before I pulled it apart, so I did. It started an ran for a second and then I shut it off and tried to restart. It was locked up. I finally figured something was on top of the no.5 piston. Pulled out motor and trans TOGETHER (Important part again). Pulled the head and found 1/4 inch nut on piston barely even nicked anything. I did some research and traced the car through titles to Virginia. I never was able to reach any of the previous owners. Motion396nova had asked about he car several times. I decided to sell to him but before he picked up the car I contacted the the guy that had the car in the very early nineties. His wife answered the phone and remembered the car. She said did you know that the car is a Baldwin Motion Nova...... So she puts hubby on the phone and he tells me the guy from New Jersey he purchased the car from said it was a Baldwin Motion Nova. He also said is had a set of weird traction bars on it when he sold it. So I think nice story. But the car does have an ET rear cover 3 barrel intake and that 3350 stamped on the block and heads. I sell the car to Motion396nova and and give him all my info on the car. I stick the head back on the engine and then set the ENGINE and TRANS back in the the car (Important part again engine and trans still together). He take car apart and sends to machine shop and when the engine builder gets through he calls M396nova and says "Looky what I just found on the back of the block" MOTION PER. STAMPED IN THE BELL HOUSING FLANGE. He sent me the pics of the stamp and I posted the here. The car did not belong to me when the pic of the motion stamp was posted on this site. I was the owner when the question about the 3350 stamp on the heads and block was posted on this site, and no one had any info. motion396 nova talked to Joel and he told me Joel said it looked like his work and has continued to research the car That's all I know. Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Wouldn't you think the documents from Joel would make a drastic difference in the value of the car sold as is...and considering all info gathered so far would be money well spent before selling it? .
On the other hand and depending on what the reserve is also if the auction would continue fairly to it's conclusion, it could be a good one for a flipper if bought right and Joel's docs did come back positive? . Is there similar rear engine stampings and front pad Work Order/Tracking type #'s on other known documented Motion cars? . I know it wasn't intentional but nicely done how the car and eBay seller have both landed here without having the reserve needing to be disclosed? . Who's got more info on the '68 Yenko mentioned? . https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Thanks for the clarification Mark

Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Thanks Mark, do you wish you had it back? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
|
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
YES. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif But just think, all of you guys had a shot at it when I listed it for sale here as JUST a 375/396. All of you blew it too..... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif
|
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
I agree!! I eyed it up, but have enough on my hands as it is...
I think the current owner should get the rosen letter, especially since it's not a Baldwin car. The engine stampings are good, and indicates a later conversion, but it's best to get any paperwork you can from Joel - just pay him whatever he asks! |

The engine stampings are good, and indicates a later conversion [/ QUOTE ] Marlin what makes you say this? If the stampings were on a vintage 427 or 454 yea maybe, but on the original 396 block? The heavily documented '71 BM Camaro that I owned that retained its Motion built LS-6 did not have these stampings on the block or heads. Does Joe G's 396 BM Chevelle have these engine stampings? Secondly, it's just illogical that the car is advertised on Ebay as a likely Motion modified car and the Seller won't pay J.R. $2K to potentially reap an extra $100k+ in value after documentation. Doesn't make sense. Perhaps someone will take a chance and it will pay off. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I recall several people on this board were looking at the 68 Yenko when it was for sale a few years ago and there were apparently some issues. If it now turns out to be real, that's great. I'd like to hear more about it. |
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
I think I recall the dates of the engine were much later the car.... maybe not...
|
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Oh man i love this stuff !!
|
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
No Motion stampings on my Chevelle's original 396 drivetrain.......
|
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
What gets me, everyone who thinks they have a Motion car calls Joel, according to them he says "maybe", or "looks like what we did", etc, which IMO would warrant paying the fee, but most never follow up. We all know a letter from Joel greatly increses the value of his cars, so it really makes one wonder what is not being told.

Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Just wanted to update everone that I have taken your advice and have ended the ebay auction. I am sending MR Rosen a check out Monday Morning for the 2K fee and we will see what the results are. Thanks for all your imput!!

Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Good Move....Your engine could have had internal work......

Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
wow https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif i couldn,t even get a response from motion about documenting my chevelle https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Did you ever follow up........??

I think I recall the dates of the engine were much later the car.... maybe not... [/ QUOTE ] engine pad stamp indicates correct "numbers matching" block "Car was delivered Dec 1st 1969 to a Atkin;s Chevrolet in Wayne NJ." Not a "Baldwin" car. Hopefully Joel will come through with the mods his shop did. Didnt most "BaldwinMotion" cars have their original motors replaced with something larger? A "shop" car could have any mods made to its original motor. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Looking forward to $2000.00 worth of info. |

yup!!

Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
I have dealt with Joel Rosen a few times, and found him very professional and easy to talk with.
I know..I know,..I was prepared for the worst from what a few have said about him on various websites in the past, but he answered my email in a timely fashion..{He does have another business to run} His wife and he recommended I call them at their 1-800 number, via his model building business to follow up on my inquiry. I like him and how I was treated. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
OK... very curious to see how this ends up!! Winning lottery ticket or not??? I hope it is the real deal!!!
|
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Yep. Good luck with the Joel thing.
I have a X66 car like this. Joel paid $$$$, not a Motion car, but a Baldwin bought car. No paperwork and will not return calls. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif (and yes, I offered to pay more for the paperwork). Big difference between Rosen and MacNeish, heck Jerry even left his cell phone number on my voice mail so that I could catch him! That's how you run a business in my book. |

...... not a Motion car, but a Baldwin bought car. No paperwork and will not return calls. ..... . [/ QUOTE ] I sure there were many Baldwin bought cars back then----But if there was no go or show work done by Motion, I would think Joel wouldn't have paperwork on the car--In any event as Rick pointed out you can always reach someone at the 1-800 models number--Sometimes Joel answers or e-mail them.... ----------Joel was even busy back went, but when you got his ear on a tech problem, he'd go out of his way to help you out...I still find this to be true even today with his new hectic schedule............ |

Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Ray, you are correct about that !!
That may be the catch of the day? How is that explained if this was the first time engine and trans were seperated? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif answers? lowmile? |

"That may be the catch of the day?"
Don't put your fishing poles up just yet. The stamp was found at the machine shop AFTER the engine was assembled, ready to put on a "break-in" stand..... m |

Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Okay I'll bite, the EBAY add has the back of the block painted, but the picture with the flexplate is not, which one is the before rebuild picture?
|
Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Just wanted to clear up matter of flex plate picture. The one lowmile attach was the one I emailed the day I found out it was stamped at the engine rebuilders shop. I was excited and could not wait to send lowmile a pictue. The ebay ad was when I brought engine home and took some pictures in my shop on engine stand. When I took engine to machine shop I left all the original flyweel and bell housing at my shopso it would be safe.

Re: EBAY Motion Nova?????
Wayne NJ is only about 50 miles from Baldwin New York. That put the car in a prime area to be worked on at the Motion shop. Also I wonder if dealers transfered cars much in those days? If Baldwin needed a car to sell, that's pretty close. Would the NICB report show a dealer transfer or just show the original dealer? It will be interesting to see Joels info. m
