1958 Fuelie Corvette completed
Here are some before and after shots of the 1958 Corvette Fuel Injection I've been working out. I detailed the engine compartment, stripped the frame, diff housing and then repainted it. All in all she cleaned up well. Thanks to those like Enoch and Kwhizz who shared insight through PM's and emails to help along the way. I also want to thank my brother who stops by here from time to time. I really enjoyed this project. Thanks.

Looks great. Thats a lot of washers on the waterpump! [/ QUOTE ] Jason, this car was maintained by a boat mechanic. I had this conversation with Tony W. If you don't know anything about cars, why work on them? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif Here are some pictures along the way. Our biggest gripe about cleaning this car was not sending out the fuel injection unit and intake base to have them reskined/rebuilt. The rebuild for the Fuelie unit baselines at $2,500 and takes 6-8 months to be completed https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif. The intake base however, is an easy $350 from J. MacNeish. Reskining those items would have made a world of difference, even though Kwhizz’s Aluminum Eyching cleaner works like a charm! After the car was completed, we had tremendous trouble getting the car to idle. Unlike a carb that runs on air/fuel mixture, the fuel injection runs on a large portion of vacuum pressure. The driver's side of the unit is all air and the passenger side of the unit is all gas. The valve that regulats the two is called the signal cranking valve. They have an expected life of 3-4 years because of clogging carbon build up. The distributor and tach are run by a drive cable. Cutting edge technology for 1958 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif. enjoy! After the wiring wheel was completed, time for primer... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../12-28-065.jpg engine when she arrived... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../12-16-067.jpg engine compartment in primer... you cannot drop the gas tank when its covered by fiberglass... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ie/1-9-078.jpg |

Dan.... thats an excellent job. I've never seen better work with the body on and the engine in. You must have stood on your head for days on end. If you decide to come to Texas for the winter ever I could put you to work. Seriously! Even in the Summer....it aint no "Dry Heat"

It is very difficult balancing the wire wheel when working on your back and worrying about gashing the fiberglass. The wire wheel would eat right through the fiberglass. I learned a lot about these solid axel cars from this project. I might have to take up youre offer on coming to TX. I'll work for free as long as you feed me https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif I forgot to mention we replaced the carpet, recovered the seats, replaced the convertible top straps and cleaned the interior of stripped screw wholes and fasteners. Man what a job. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
