Wichita, Kansas
Hi all and happy new year
Looking for some information about Wichita, Kansas. My son got me started about this Have been living in Philly for over 30 years. And I am now on disability. Looking to move out of the rat race here and move some place not as nuts as this place. My son has showed me homes online in Kansas and real Nice going for about 190.000 in Kansas same type of house would be selling for around 6-7000.000 here It would seem that the cost of living is much cheaper in Kansas. But I do not know anything about Kansas Would like to know the good the bad about it. Love to move out of this row home in the city to a single home out side the city But out side Philly homes are high priced and the traffic here is getting to the point where you just waste gas sitting and I just not stand it any more there are times it would take you an hour to go 10 miles. And the stress level her in Philly is just to much https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif. every one is just so keyed up Plus the home he just showed me in Wichita had a 3 car garage https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif something I just do not have now. So any one that live out in Kansas would love to know if it is worth checking it out |

No offense to any Huskers or Jayhawks on the board intended! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif But if you like flat farmland, with a constant wind gust, and tornadoes, then Kansas is for you! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Seriously, though, the housing/cost of living will no doubt be cheaper anywhere here in rural the Midwest...Steve Hodges (71-LS6) is out in Baldwin City, KS, and Rusty Small's kinfolk all live across the border in wheat/corn country... |
Re: Wichita, Kansas
Hi Rob
Yea I thought about the tornadoes, I do not know if it is a problem with all Of Kansas?? What brought it up is my son has a co worker that lived out there all her life. about a year ago her husbands job transfured him to philly. They tell my son that they can not stand it here cost to much to much traffic and just to much stress Any way She told him that the town were she used to live never had any problems with tornadoes ./ like I said I do not know much about it but a 4 bed room house with three car garage for 190.000 here it will cost at lest 600.000 yea thats got me thinking I would kill to have a garage just might get me back in to the cars thing also might br looking at other states |

Re: Wichita, Kansas
Norm,
I spent six months in Joplin, MO. I was running a project for Missouri Gas Energy. I found the people to be some of hardest working and most honest around. This is true for most of the midwest https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif To be honest if my kids were not in school, I would most likely be living in the mid west, quite possibly Joplin. I miss Stoudts Pizza, over 200 beers available |

How about 40 minutes from Atlantic City? What about Carlisle? New York City just 90 minutes away! Not to mention cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, TastyKakes, scrapple and....GTO DON!!! Won't you miss Rocky Balboa? Say it ain't so Norm! Especially to the wind torn, dust bowl of the country! There are NO beaches in Kansas. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif No Norm don't do it! You will be missed greatly. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Did not go down once last year they ruined it there is soo much greed. If they could find a way to tax the air you breath belive me they would do it.They do charge a fee to walk out on the beach. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif every thing that was nice at the jersey shore is long gone I am living on a fixed income so the mid west sounds like I can get more for my money I have right now I am in the Research mode |
Re: Wichita, Kansas
West/Northern Illinois is really building now,and has some of the best Land/Home values at a decent price.
It also has access to nearly everything the surrounding Midwest has to offer within a short driving distance.(Albeit a toll is required) Just a thought.. |
Re: Wichita, Kansas
Owen: I'm to drive you to Wichita to catch a train?
Del: Yeah, we'd appreciate it. Owen: Train don't run out of Wichita... unlessin' you're a hog or a cattle. [Clears his throat] Owen: People train runs out of Stubbville. |
Re: Wichita, Kansas
Norm, How about the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. Very, very nice with great weather and good housing and prices. Take a ride down 81 out of Carlisle. Beautiful!!! If I didn't have all my kids around here I would be thinking that area.

Re: Wichita, Kansas
Norm, I've been building, new homes in KS for 20+ yrs now, around 220 the last time I thought to count them all up. Your friend is correct regarding the cost of living and home prices. Even with the run-up in real estate values over the past several years, nice homes are cheap in the midwest. Wichita KS, Tulsa OK, Springfield MO, that whole area is pretty neat. I build in NE Oklahoma and SE Kansas for the most part. Nice 3 bed, 2 bath, 2 car garage homes on full basements are plentiful in the 130K and up range. I hang out with 2 FAST racing buddies who live in Erdenheim and Oreland PA. It's a neat place, but definitely crowded.
PS Don't worry about tornadoes either, a warning siren will always sound just about 10 minutes after a twister hits. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |

Wichita KS, Tulsa OK, Springfield MO, that whole area is pretty neat. [/ QUOTE ] If I'm not mistaken, a few years ago Springfield, MO, was the fastest growing city in the US...my daughter, and lots of other family live there, so we're there a lot, and it's growing like crazy to the south towards Branson, MO, which is within 1/2 hour or so....hey Norm, you like country music shows and crafts? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Springfield, Nixa, Ozark, down to Branson and Harrison, AR, to the south...as well as west along I-44 towards Joplin, MO... |
Re: Wichita, Kansas
Norm, checkout central Illinois. Rated as one of the lowest cost of living areas in the country. Within a easy days drive of Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Detroit, Kansas City, Louisville, Memphis, Miwaukee, Des Moines. Springfield, my home, is fast becoming a major medical research and treatment area. Very reasonable housing cost and lots of homes available. Come on out and I'll show you around.

Re: Wichita, Kansas
Wichita is a nice town, but if you are still wanting to have some metro feel, I would suggest Kansas City, Omaha, Springfield, MO, or Tulsa. To the east of Wichita, you have the rolling Flint Hills, to the west, you start into the flat land that Kansas is famous for. The weather is in the extremes, hot in the summer (several days over 100), cold in the winter (not much snow, but the wind will cut right through you), and the aforementioned tornados. Everyone builds a basement, so the twisters are not too much of an issue. They do have a great college basketball team, get most of the concerts that roll through Kansas, have a drag strip and dirt tracks. You are 3 hrs away from KC, 3 1/2 from Springfield, about 7 hrs from SCR 10 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif. I have releatives that live in Wichita and Hutchinson. If you are looking for nicer homes, look in Anthony, KS. My cousin has a very nice home with a large 3 car garage. I am guessing about $280-300 for that house. Drop me a PM if you want to know more.

I agree. Why go that far from everything. Prices are more reasonable out in Breks and if you get home sick for The Liberty Bell you can make it there in less than 2 hours. Long live the Funnell Cake.https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
