Long Island Dealerships
I thought this may be a better place for me to make this post. I am new to this board and am trying to collect the dealer codes for all the zone 27 dealers around in the late 60s. Here are the ones that I haven't been able to find the codes for yet
Bast Chevrolet-Seaford Bedford Chevrolet Sales Corp-Brooklyn Curry Chevrolet-Hempstead Grove Motor Sales Co-Brooklyn Frame Chevrolet-Mineola Hull Chevrolet-Olds-Southampton Kort Chevrolet-Floral Park Lester Motors Inc-Easthampton Nesenger Chevrolet-Patchogue Rupp Chevrolet-Lynbrook MacGrotty Chevrolet-Flushing Luyster Motors Inc-Glen Cove O'Keefe Chevrolet/Olds-Riverhead Luby Chevrolet-Forest Hills PJ Grady Chevrolet-West Sayville Frog Hollow Chevrolet-Bethpage Great Neck Motors Inc-Great Neck I have looked on the dealer list one the Chevelle website numberous times, but had no luck with these particular dealers. If anyone has the codes for any of these dealers, please let me know! Steve |
Re: Long Island Dealerships
I know that Bast and Nesenger are still in business. Good luck

Re: Long Island Dealerships
I dont know any of the codes but I do have some of those dealership tags on your list.... Mark https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Long Island Dealerships
Add Baldwin Chevrolet to your list...
Curry had two locations... one on Central Ave in Greenburg and the other out on the Island. Curry in Westchester was a typicaly Hi-Po dealer. I've seen numerous LS6 Chevelles sold out of there. But then again if you really wanted Hi-Po, just drive 5 minutes into White Plains to Byrne Brothers Chevy. |
Re: Long Island Dealerships
The old Pape Chevrolet in Huntington was big time into performance parts and cars.

Mark [/ QUOTE ] Mark, do you happen to have a dealer tag (or any other dealer info) from Norwood Motor Co in Warwick, Rhode Island? I've got a 69 Chevelle that originally came from that dealership and I'd like to find an original dealer tag. Thanks! |

Re: Long Island Dealerships
PAPE in Huntington is still around, now called Huntington Chev. The Silver 69 BB Nova with a 502 that was a featured in a couple of magazines recently is supposedly Billy Pape's (old owner's Son)old car that he ordered new in 69 and street raced extensively

Re: Long Island Dealerships
Thanks for the help everybody! Wow I've never heard of Walric Chevrolet, very interesting. The actual list is about double of what I posted. The other half I have the codes for. I cant believe how many dealers LI had! If anybody else has any protecto plates, old invoices/window stickers or dealer emblems from Long Island dealers, please post some pictures as I'd love to see. I have a collection of approx 1200 protecto plates, and a few long island ones have come through, so that is a big help for addresses, but not codes. Keep it comin https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Long Island Dealerships
You can probably call Brian Bast at Bast in Seaford LI, they have a complete Chevy performance shop on premises and host a bunch of vintage Chevy car shows in the summer, so they are performance minded, they probably have a bunch of the old crap/paperwork still laying around

I know this is a little off topic, but I bought a 1966 Chevy II parts-car from a man who seems to be the original owner. The title is dated December 3, 1974. It says that Pietro Zacco bought the car 2/28/66 from Major Chevrolet Inc, 34-14 Steinway St. Long Island City, N.Y.
Are they still in business, or long gone ? |
Re: Long Island Dealerships
I have a 69 L89 Camaro sold by Yenko and delivered to Hoffman on Long Island. Looking for original owner Robert Massimo from New Hyde Park. Thought somebody from Hoffman might remember the guy. pkwbeach
|
Re: Long Island Dealerships
Pkwbeach, do you have the zone codes for that dealer?

Re: Long Island Dealerships
Does anyone here know what dealer is code 27275? I think it is probably in New York City or nearby. I tried searching, but got no results. Thanks, Nick
|
Re: Long Island Dealerships
That breaks down as Zone 27 Dealer 275.
I know of two 1970 Chevelles sold from these dealerships that might shed some light on your search, but both are defunct today. University Chevrolet 1221 Jerome Ave. Bronx 52 N.Y. 10452 Zone-27 Dealer-271 H M Williams Chevrolet 94-05 Northern Blvd. Jackson Heights, N.Y. 11372 Zone-27 Dealer-283 |
Re: Long Island Dealerships
Hi Nick,
I looked in my personal dealer list and have a match. 27 275 is: Village Chevrolet Co Inc 222-22 Jamaica Ave Queens Village NY 11428 I think this came from a 1967 protecto plate book. Steve |

Re: Long Island Dealerships
Thanks to everyone! I just picked up my '74 Spirit of America Vega on Long Island two weeks ago. I passed by Bast Chevy on the way. Since it was built in Canada (1st year for this), I was able to get documentation from GM Canada for it. They only listed the code, not the dealer name, I figured it was in NYC, because an old key I got with the car was stamped with the name of a locksmith in Yonkers, NY. Another hint was the City/Country horn switch under the dash. I've only seen them on Ebay until now.
The body of the car is in great shape. The interior needs a little work (elbow grease, seat covers, carpet), but it's all there. Best of all, I owned one of these back in the 70's, so it's like seeing an old friend again! Thanks again for the help. -Nick |
Re: Long Island Dealerships
Walric Chevrolet was named after two brothers who were indentical twins the other dealership that they owned was Frame Chevrolet in Mineola, I will forward along the dealer # for these 2 and I might have a list somewhere in my files of all the dealers for 27
|
Re: Long Island Dealerships
Do the brothers still own a dealership anywhere?
|
Re: Long Island Dealerships
I have some locksmith know from Long Island.
|
My father was a mechanic for walric chevy in bayshore from the mid 60's till they went out of business..
He worked on many of muscle cars that they sold. He said they use to store the new muscle cars in a warehouse up the road off of 5th ave in bayshore.. |
Also add Giles chevy in port jefferson as a performance car dealer.. have proof of 1969 copo camaros sold new there...
|
Hoffman Chevy was on Franklin Ave in Franklin square.
|
Interesting you mention Walric and Frame. I have a few sets of dealer plates from those dealers. They have stickers on the backside. The Frame plates are a chrome foil sticker, and the Walric is a white reflective sticker. I will try to post a picture.

Definitely a very old thread but will add that my pace car came from Giles Chevrolet. Interesting to hear it was a performance dealership! I am hoping to obtain information from the Giles family. The dealer code is 107 and Zone 2 according to info obtained from NCRS. The dealership was sold to Rampone family(Ramp Chevrolet) in mid 80's and later bankrupt in 2009
|
Giles
Is odd, I have Giles in Port Jeff listed as: 27-120 with about 4 entries, then one for 02-106.
What year is the pace car that you received the data report for? Paul |
'
That is goofy as 27-120 is a known Giles' Code in '69 also 02-106 a later # they used to '88 then Ramp was 02-107 from '89?:hmmm: Other examples may help clarify but unless code change happened before subject vehicle delivery, the NCRS report code noted seems incorrect for the date? Welcome aboard and looking forward to seeing/hearing more of your Pacer! :beers: ~ Pete . |
Thank you Pete & Paul! I apologize for the late reply as I'm a newbie here! Thanks for the warm welcome! :beers:
The previous owner of the car had obtained the report from NCRS and official production date was 3/10/1969. It said the original delivery dealer was dealer code 107 in zone 2 which comes up as Ramp Chevrolet. The report then quoted "The name and address for the dealer is not available in the GM document". Ramp Chevrolet went out of business 20 years ago, but the same family owns a Ford Dealership and spoke to one of the owners who said that they bought the Chevrolet dealership from the Giles family in the mid-80's and that the Giles family operated the dealership from 1933 to the mid-80's. I found the Giles' grand daughter who still lives in the area and emailed her.. She was going to ask her mother if there are any docs from the dealership that still exist and give me some guidance. I am operating on the assumption that the dealer code provided on the report was meant to be Giles Chevrolet since it is not possible it was sold new at Ramp... |

I have in my database besides Ramp Chevrolet for 02-107:
Cargill Chevrolet in Putnam Ct. They were there in 1969 see attached: Ad dated: Sept 18, 1968 |
Wow, thanks Paul! This makes more sense that the car possibly came from Cargill Chevrolet in Putnam over it being delivered to Giles in Port Jeff, since I know from early 1970 that it was purchased by 2nd owner at a used car dealership in Worcester, MA.

Here is a Bast Chevrolet keychain, first one I've seen (not mine, on eBay):

Brian Bast is a good friend of mine, see him quite often. I will ask him if he has any of these laying around, if anybody wants one
