'70 Tuxedo Black L78 Nova - Documented

1 Attachment(s)
I have a 1970 Tuxedo Black Nova L-78 - numbers matching with protecto plate. 4-speed, buckets, radio delete, redline wide ovals with dog dish hubs. This car was purchased at Legendary Motorcar - if you have heard of them, you know their reputation.

As for the history of the car, I know it was originally from Nashville, North Carolina and there is a 1992 Pennsylvania inspection sticker on the windshield. I believe it was restored about 12 0r 13 years ago. The paint is lacquer and is pretty nice, except for it is a little thin near the bottom. The window rubbers need to be replaced, one of the heater knobs is broken off and there is a tear in the rear sail panel. All of the body panels are solid and original as far as I can tell. The tranny is a non-numbers M-20. Since I have had it, I have installed a tach and gauges and I took out the points and replaced them with a Fireball points eliminator with rev limiter, but I still have the original points. The engine pic I've attached shows some non-original hose clamps on the heater hoses - I've since replaced all of them with GM original tower clamps, purchased from Greenwood Chevy. I've had the car for 2 1/2 years and I've put on 2228 miles in that time.

This is a very strong car with a numbers-matching motor, 4-spd, buckets and radio delete. The original owner probably bought it to race, as it has no bells and whistles to weigh it down - no air, radio, console, spare tire or chrome trim. It is not a show car and it does have some flaws, but you know these cars and how rare it is to find a real 70 L-78 especially in Tuxedo Black with bucket seats.

This is not a trailer-queen, but it is a true sleeper.
As far as I've been told, there is no problem taking an American car back to the U.S. and it is a fairly simple process, but I will check into it and assist in any way possible.

I'm asking $68 500 USD.

I will post a couple of pics here, but most of the ones I have are too large. Please email me at [email protected] for more pics or info. If you would like to discuss anything, please call me at 519-729-8881, as I have a broken hand and typing is a pain.

P.S. - Anyone on here that knows any history on this car, please feel free to add anything I've missed!

I just sold my L78 70 nova. It had the custom interior which the woodgrain door panels were a part of.Im told the custom interior was only available in a bench seat car. Does anyone know if that is correct??? I notice this is a bucket seat car with the woodgrain.Ive heard also that the woodgrain was a part of the bucket seat interior only?????? The only reading ive seen on this called the custom interior for bench only and included thicker sound deadner, trunk mat and spare tire cover, thicker seat foam, and a few other small items ..Does anyone know for sure what seat configuration came with custom interior and if the woodgrain was a custom interior only etc???

Re: '70 Tuxedo Black L78 Nova - Documented

Bucket seat cars were always custom interior cars, and therefore would have the deluxe door panels - parchment in '68-9 and woodgrain in '70.

Bench seat cars could also be had with custom interiors, which included different seat covers, and the other items you mentioned.

BTW, the car should have a spare tire, I'm pretty sure they all got one even if the car was bought with the intention to race it. Nice car, love the black on black with black wheels!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Not a real pretty pic, but it shows the parchement door panel with the bucket seats on my '69 before I bought it.

All bucket seat interiors were "custom" and included the wood grain door panel trim and other upgrades in the seats, etc.

That was my car that I sold to Legendary. I had it for a few years it was a good driver car. I found a 69 L/78 later that is a plain jane to.

Is there anything else you can add about the history or details of the car? Do you miss it? Do you find a difference in the power compared to your '69?

This car was first listed for sale on this site on July 15/ 2003. Asking price was $26,500. I'm still kicking myself for not buying it, I remember $25K as being the magic number.A week later the car was at Legendary here in Canada, and the new price was close to $50K. Woulda, shoulda, coulda...

I called LMC about the car and they said the tranny was not original...

is that true?

As I stated in my original post "The tranny is a non-numbers M-20."

No offence taken! I'm just trying to be upfront and honest about the car... I just want to sell it hassle-free, without any surprises for the buyer. All questions will be answered honestly, and if I don't know the answer, I'll find out. As I said earlier, I am open to offers. So if you think the asking price is too high, please feel free to come forward with a reasonable offer. I'm going away for a month in January and I'd like to have it spoken for before I leave. I have no problem keeping it for someone it until spring if need be. I know that I would not want to see it transported on an open trailer in this weather!!

BTW when I bought the car at Legendary, they did not tell me about the incorrect tranny... I discovered it after the fact.

P.S. - It does have a Centreforce clutch in it and "Hooker" headers.
