Yenko Information
I can provide some information on the 3 1969 Yenko Camaros sold at Karen Chevrolet Phillipsburg, N.J. (not Pa.) My then fiance now ex-wife and I actually bought one of these in 1972. No I still don't own it, but I still have the original unused spar tire and wheel.

So let's hear some details. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
|
Re: Yenko Information
Which car was it, Olympic Gold 4speed, Rallye Green 4speed, or the Fathom Green a/t? Two of the three are still around, the gold one is gone https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif
I understand Karen Chev got busted for mileage tampering? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: Yenko Information
Yes they did get busted for mileage tampering and lost their Chev Franchise. I'm not sure what your question is about which car. Do you know for sure the 2 green cars are still around?
|
Re: Yenko Information
I also heard they lost their franchise for the mileage tampering issue.
I was curious which car you owned out of the three cars Karen Chev. received - a rallye green 4sp, a fathom green a/t, or the olympic gold 4sp. They may have gotten more than those 3, but those are the only three I know about. The two green cars are still around. The rallye green car is owned by a family member of the original owner, and is now in FL. The fathom green car was eventually turned into a race car called 'THE LEAPIN LIZARD', and I believe is now sitting awaiting it's turn for restoration. |
Re: Yenko Information
Sorry about the question thing I'm very new to this. I thought I was posting to the board, but I think I sent a PM to copo. If he would be so kind to post the PM I sent him. It's kind of long, but I hope interesting. Anyway the car I had was the Rallye Green 4 spd. The fathom green car was indeed turned into a race car, and I still know the owner. I talked to him once in the past year about his car. I don't know if he still owns it. The one thing I remember about it was he had 'Get Back' painted on the rear spoiler. I know he ran the car at Island Dragway Great Meadows, N.J. It's really good news to hear 2 of the 3 are still around. As I said in the PM to copo the gold one was supposed to have been destroyed at a Wind Gap,Pa. 1/8 mile dragstrip nicknamed 'The Sticks'. The strip still exists, but is only used once a year for a reunion. (Burnouts only, no actual racing). On one side the strip is lined with trees and I heard the driver of the gold Yenko just lost control and put the car into the trees.

Re: Yenko Information
I'm sure Keith would like to get the original spare back for his car! How can Keith contact you? I'm sure he would love to talk to you about the car. Its been very well taken care of over the years.

Re: Yenko Information
The driver of the gold car indeed put it into a tree, I heard that he was killed in that incident but that is unconfirmed. Could the dragstrip have been Vargo Dragway in Perkasie, PA - it's just south of Wind Gap, with trees on the one side, and is used once a year for a reunion car show.
|
Re: Yenko Information
M, there is a Drag Strip in Windgap, Pa. Off route 78 east. Still an 1/8th mile set up and they have a real nice reunion every year. Actually the return road was in the woods. Still looks the same. Its called The Sticks Reunion. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: Yenko Information
Sorry copo. Maybe I sent the PM to camarojoe. The drag strip is is in Wind Gap, Pa. about a mile off Rt. 33. It's official name is Mt. View Dragway. Vargo, in Perkasie doesn't exist anymore. Every summer (mid to late August) there is a reunion at the old drag strip called The Sticks Reunion. The strip is in relatively good shape since it hasn't been used as a drag strip in probably 25 years. The man in the gold Yenko Camaro was definitely NOT killed. I don't believe he was even hurt. If you saw how the strip is laid out it would be easy to see how you could destroy the car and not get hurt.

Re: Yenko Information
O.K. Guys, since I can't figure who I sent the PM to I'll try this again. This all comes from my memory so if I'm off please don't think I'm blowing smoke. As far as I know Karen Chev sold 3 69 Yenko Camaros. Olympic gold, sold to 1 or 2 guys from Allentown, Pa. Fathom green to a local (Easton, Pa.)speed shop owner. Rallye green, sold to a young man from Wilson Boro (Easton) Pa. nicknamed Spike. The gold one was destroyed at 'The Sticks' drag strip. The fathom green was a strip only car. The rallye green car was traded at Continental Motors Easton,Pa. where I worked, on a (Get ready for this one) new Lincoln Mercury Capri. My then fiancee, now ex-wife, and I bought the car on Feb 3rd 1972. I still have the receipts from the deposit and when we picked up the car Feb 10th. when I went in to pick the car up I was corraled in the sales managers office with the owner and sales mgr telling me how much I didn't want to buy that car. They had advertised the car and had 2 or 3 backup deposits on it. After way too much talking I reminded them that I had a signed buyers order and I was indeed taking the car. We lived exactly 2 blocks from the dealership and every morning (for the next 2 weeks anyway) I would walk past the car only to turn around and drive in the opposite direction 13 blocks to the circle in Easton and back up to work. Two weeks later I got fired from that job (I didn't care I had the car) they were really upset about selling me that car. Anyway we had the car a little over a year and bought a house so the car had to go.(Yes I knew it was going to be worth money someday) I sold it to Stout's Auto Sales Reading,Pa. I had no idea it was still around until yesterday. Keith e-mailed me pictures. You have no idea how big the smile on my face was when I saw those pictures. The car looks absolutely beautiful! Maybe some day I'll actually be able to see it again. I know exactly what I'll say. Hello old friend, the years have been very very kind.

Very Cool https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |

Welcome to the site Nazereth...It would be neat if Keith ended up with the spare tire for the car.

Re: Yenko Information
Wow! Stouts in Reading? Keith, how did you end up with the car, I thought your uncle bought it new? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I might be getting my rallye green cars confused, but isn't this the dunn&grasso car - or was that the other RG car you had??

[/ QUOTE ] Hi Marlin, You got some of the story correct and some not. Yes my car was owned by Bob Grasso (as in Dunn & Grasso Performance) Bob was my wife’s uncle (by marriage). Back in the late seventies and early eighties at the same time Bob had 2 1969 Rally Green Yenko Camaros. One was an automatic, black stripe sold new at Marshall Chevrolet. The other RG car was a 4-speed car, white stripe, black vinyl top sold at new Karen Chevrolet, now my car. I never claimed Bob to be the original owner. As a matter of fact Bob never titled my car but owned it for some time. Regarding Bob as the original owner, I have no idea how many owners the car had before me. I think you may be thinking of the fact my car’s NJ title indicates an “A” prefix. I believe the “A” was used in NJ whenever a car moved to NJ from another state? My car was in PA before I owned it. I have owned my car for about 25 years and have known the car longer, but don’t know it’s complete history from day one. Some of that may be changing if I can verify that Nazareth Motorcar did own my car. I would like to know the VIN of his old car. I hope this helps. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif Keith |
Re: Yenko Information
yep, thanks for the history, I keep thinking that you were the guy that owned two RG Yenkos at once! The other RG Yenko that Grasso owned is now in the Cliff Ernst collection!
My search continues for a Marshall sold Yenko Camaro, most are accounted for, including one I've been searching for over the years - but, it centerpunched a tree in MD, was parted out, and the back half made into a couch https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif |
Re: Yenko Information
Yes, Cliff Ernst purchased that car from Bob about a year or 2 after I got the 4 speed. I wanted that one too, but couldn't justify the extra $20,000. How dumb am I? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif
On the Yenko couch, damn that is one expensive place to put your a**. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: Yenko Information
Don't beat yourself up over the other green one, I also passed on a few of Cliff's project status '69 Y-Camaro's in that price range - but I was ass-deep into the deuce https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
The guy with the couch doesn't know that it's from a Yenko, neither did the guy who wrecked it and parted it out. When he bought the car it was red, SB, a/t, SS stuff all over it, etc.... He swore it was an SS, till I asked him if he ever found any green paint on the car. He was shocked, and revealed that it was indeed green under the sill plates - he about fainted when I informed him that he totalled a highly optioned Yenko Camaro from PA. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif Just to be safe, I asked him where the firewall went. He replied that the damage was so severe that the engine was shoved into the firewall and pushed it back several inches. The driveshaft came up through the floor boards, the roof was bent and twisted as were the rockers. I'm trying to find a pic of the wreck, but no luck so far. What a shame. |
Re: Yenko Information
Marlin,
How long have you had the deuce? I was all over the Philadelphia area in my Camaro back in the day. Did we ever cross paths? Keith |
Re: Yenko Information
Probably not, I bought it in '96 - so I'm going on 11 years now https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif I finished the resto in June of '01 - our first baby was due in Sept of '01, so that provided the incentive to get it done https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif I lived in an apartment in Hatboro when I bought it, kept it there for a few months before finding space in Perkasie where I did the resto. So, I have never driven it in the Philly area - although I did my share of street racing and cruising on the Blvd, front st, red lion rd, woodhaven, etc... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: Yenko Information
Hi Marlin,
I'm with ya. For us once we had our kids the cars went on the back burner (the business and family come first, cars and golf second). Maybe that is why for the past 10 years the Yenko has been driven about 20 miles a year. I did a little on Front Street with the Yenko (nobody wanted to run it) but did many nights at all of the favorite Philadelphia spots with my RAM AIR GTO. I am now 45 so I guess many of those nights were before your time (late 70's until late 80's) Well thanks for the update. Now I am just waiting to see if Nazareth Motorcars comes up with a VIN to verify if he once owned my car. How cool would that be? Keith |
Re: Yenko Information
Keith,
In NJ, an "A" prefix on the title indicates it's the second title (the first title transfer) issued in NJ. IF the car came in from another state, NJ used a "Z" on the first NJ title. As the title transferred from that one, I believe the "Z" was retained. Verne |
Re: Yenko Information
Hi Vern,
I purchased my car from my wife's uncle who never titled it. I have the "A" title so am I technically the second owner? Keith |
Re: Yenko Information
Hi Rob,
Thanks for the Vargo pics!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif I wasn't able to make it this year. I see my friend Allen George brought his '62 nostalgia super stocker and the Bloody Mary Altered he restored. Interesting story on the altered. The frame was stolen a few years ago then turned up at a swap meet for sale. A friend of Allen's recognized it and bought it back for Al. In short order, the car was restored..... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif And now, back to our regularly scheduled program.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif Verne |
Re: Yenko Information
Keith,
Yes, according to NJ you have the 2nd title issued. (The original title had no letter) Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif |
Re: Yenko Information
I always thought so, but never knew for sure. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Now I really wonder if Nazerath Motorcar owned my car or not.
|
Re: Yenko Information
So Marlin, after you got the car was there just an old beat up Deuce sitting in the parking lot of the apartment? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif What a cool sight that would have been! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif
|
Re: Yenko Information
Hi guys, I think Karen Chev could have sold the original owner (Pa. resident) the car on the c.o. If that is correct then that car would have had a Pa. title untill at least 1973. I've been distracted lately. Hopefully, I'll be able to continue looking for the V.I.N.

Then some old ladies ratted me out, and the apt management got on my case. I had it all covered up though, most tenants just thought it was my previous '72 SS Nova - but it was sold to fund the purchase https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif I'll dig out a pic. |

I'd like to see that pic myself!
