Mmmm...Vega...https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif [/ QUOTE ] yeah, everybody named Vinnie was stuffing a V8 into a Vega and painting it black. With those kits it was so easy, lots of them Kamback wagons (extra weight of rear glass for traction, HAH ). most of them wound up broken on the side of the road, driveshafts flying, rearends exploding. Motors tearing at the hood. You had to have to have big bucks to change the rear and get it narrowed. Some guys had full size rears hanging out the sides, what a site !! would be very nostalgic 1978ish. Wish I kept some of the stuff I had to tow back to the shop. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gifChris |

Re: vintage Motion Photos
how old are those Vega ads? The prices are a wee bit low. The cars are very real, notice the bigger price on the worked rear. Gas it!

Re: vintage Motion Photos
yes, the old Motion sign from the west wall. An unnamed individual anonomously contacted me a while back and offered it for sale. He never did respond to my question of how he came upon it. It is quite stunning set up in the living room though.

Re: vintage Motion Photos
I thought I had it figured out Chris. I was the owner before him. I found the sign decaying in the back yard of a guy on L.I.
If you'd like me to fill in the blanks for you from the time it came off the wall, I can. Just contact me privately. You seem to be a great guy with a serious interest (and history) in Motion cars. I'm glad it's with you. That's where it belongs!!! I have a lot of photos of it as it was recovered, before the previous owner spent a lot of time and money bringing it back to it's glory! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Just imagine......the only original remaining sign from MOTION! Is that https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif or what???? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif Verne |
Re: vintage Motion Photos
I agree with you Verne...The anonomous seller did a real nice job of bringing the sign back to its former glory............
|
Re: vintage Motion Photos
I drove past that sign for 5 years straight, finally got around to going over there when Joel pulled out of the bldg for good and the new tenant (custom wheel guy) moved in, one of you guys beat me to the punch, a nice piece indeed SULLY

Re: vintage Motion Photos
Chris,I am confused. Do you own these signs? Sorry if this sounds stupid but was not sure.

Re: vintage Motion Photos
I'm with you Chad...did RP sell them..oops, the anonymous seller? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: vintage Motion Photos
I am also trying to figure this out. Why would these be sold "anonymously". Who is trying to hide what here? Does that sign have new owners? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: vintage Motion Photos
The sign sadly is not mine. (the price was $60,000.00) When I said they look great set up in the living room, that was the sellers living room, not mine. (I have a hard enough time leaving my Chevy High Performance magazine in the den.) I will try to find the old email from the seller (I would hope it was real and not one of those Ebay second chance scams). I did years back hear a story about the sign in a dumpster, by mistake of course, and when the alledged rightful owner came to claim it, it was too late. It then became the possesion of some lucky guy. I believe the seller said the metal case and plexiglass sign was in all original condition, just cleaned up. Still has Pink paint on the edges from when the building was painted. When I left the Baldwin area in the early 80's I thought the building was still yellow. I just passed the building yesterday and the east side has changed hands and paint again. Gone is the fluffy polish shop, now it looks like general auto maint.

Re: vintage Motion Photos
I stand corrected; https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif
the email was in Aug06, the price was only $12,000.00, and the sellers named was disclosed. Those who said 'RP' are correct. here is the email minus the sellers name, phone number and web link to photos. Hi Chris Sorry for the slow reply. I got your email through a man who knows I'm selling this. It's in my house now,and is 10 feet by 2 feet by 9 inches. I am asking 12K.I bought it years ago and have it back to working condition only,no repaint or sanding and have left that alone.I have a letter from Joel authenticating it too. If you want to see a dozen more pics,or talk on the phone,my number is here is the living room photo http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q...oundcorner.jpg It would take an act of Congress for me to get approval for that sign IN THE GARAGE !!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif |

Wiseguy!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif
It's too bad you didn't bring that wreck of yours down here to have a photo taken with it while it was here....... http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...antz/tn-47.jpg The yellow piece of plexiglass behind the black arrow was replaced before I bought it. The rest is totally original. And I found the missing piece of the "T" in the back yard where I bought it! It's history is not a secret. There's a thread buried somewhere here that explains the entire saga. Verne https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Re: vintage Motion Photos
$12,000???!!! The price keeps going up. I have heard that the sign was offered to "big guns" that frequent this site and they all passed at $10,000. I wonder who will buy it at $12,000? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Where's that popcorn eatin' graemlin that always gets posted? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
On a serious note. It should be mentioned that the sign as it is today when thru a lot of hard work to get it back to working condition. Whether that justify that much of a markup is beyond me. But I would say it is fair to ask some sort of premium over the purchase price considering the amount of effort that went into restoring it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif |
Re: vintage Motion Photos
look at what all the other kinds of old sighns go for these days...big money, I think the seller should ask a heck of alot more than 20 for a one and only item like this..just because some passed on it at 20 or what ever dont mean diddly.
If the sighn was displayed at a proper auction with the normal hype it would bring the money. |

[/ QUOTE ] Only if you ask Joel for permission?????? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif [/ QUOTE ] absolutly, no bootlegs. I spoke to Joel about all the bogus Motion items on eBay a couple years back when he was still selling the original style Motion t-shirts. Oddly it didn't seem to bother him, very mellow. I don't know if the current partners would be as relaxed. I wonder how much of the old stuff (signs, logos) is trademarked or copyrighted. These guys on Ebay don't seem to have any fear in what they sell. I myself do not have the space or the time for any new ventures, but am always looking to add to my classic T-shirt collection if they were made. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif Chris https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |

Signs
Didn't you see the sign?
FLETCH Signs? I see nothing but signs. Stressed out dormants on the windows. Walls deplaning to an alarming degree. This place is obviously infected by reticulitermes flanipes. DEPUTY What's that? FLETCH Deadly African microscopic termites. They can eat a hundred times their own weight in five minutes...much like yourself from the looks of things... (stomping the floor) ...this place is ready to collapse! DEPUTY Who are you? FLETCH Brummel. Beau Brummel. Beau Bob Brummel... Bugbusters. My truck's on the street. |
