Re: L89 whereabouts
What color was the car and what options did it have? I assume it was a Norwood car?

Re: L89 whereabouts
Dont know color or options. I have the motor and was wondering if the story rang a bell to someone who knew of the car.

Re: L89 whereabouts
Norwood VIN on the motor? If it still has the water pump is it the long or short one and did it have power steering?

Re: L89 whereabouts
Car was a racer and supposedly a 427 or was put in right away, this motor had never been dissasembled at all. Possibly right away in 1969 it was taken out.

Re: L89 whereabouts
Is it coded as an Automatic or a 4 speed?
|
Re: L89 whereabouts
The reason I was asking is that I have a 1969 Camaro that has a 11/68 build date. I belive it is a L-78 or L-89 because of the parts that were on the car when I bought it. The car was built in L.A. and I do not know the history of the car.

Looking for an automatic coded engine which fits the description above.

Re: L89 whereabouts
Hey King, Wasn't Sherwood Allen's Soul Survivor Camaro an L89 from the factory? He was from the Phila area. The car is still around. Thought I saw it on one of the websites recently. Maybe SC69Sam can remember???????????

Re: L89 whereabouts
I spoke with Sherwood yesterday at Maple Grove Raceway. Car was raced about 3 weeks with the L89 and then they yanked it out and installed a new 427 crate engine.

Re: L89 whereabouts
Herbies Hugger is a documented L89/M40 out of Dubois PA. I was told the factory L89 didn't last/was taken out within weeks just in time to get the prepped L72 in it.
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat...e=0&fpart=1 We are planning to display this Camaro at the Vette/Fest March 3rd and 4th. |
Re: L89 whereabouts
photos are the Soul Survivor ...
|
Re: L89 whereabouts
I see that, Cool car and pics. Point I was making is that Herbie's Hugger is also an L89 but M40 fitting the found engine description above.
How cool would it be to have the original engine to display with the car. |

Notice the Camaro in the back ground? Was it a twin to Soul Survivor since they both had the VITAR decals on the doors. Was the other car a L89/COPO or ZL1???
