Here are a few pics of the heart transplant reunion at Loma Linda yesterday...It was a great time.

Holly was transplanted in 1990 at the age of 5 1/2 months. She was heart transplant #77 under the age of 6 months (they divide them up newborn to 6 months and 7 months to adult). On the left Jeanette...heart transplant coordinator (was a nurse when Holly was at Loma Linda) Next is Holly...then Kay Ogata who was a transplant intake nurse/liason when Holly was at Loma Linda

This is a picture of Holly with Dr. Leonard Bailey...who was Holly's Transplant surgeon. He is looking good after going through throat cancer a few years ago.

The last time he had seen Holly was in 2000...and he immediately knew who she was. What a remarkable man.

Here's a group shot of just a few of the over 500 heart transplants that Loma Linda has done in the past 21 years...See if you can find Holly and her friend Adam (who is standing next to her)

Here is a picture of Adam and Holly at the reunion. In 1990, Adam was transplanted a week after Holly...and his birthday is a week before Holly's. Adam has had some problems since his transplant. In fact, Adam had another heart transplant in 1996 and just recently went through a kidney transplant (In May of this year). His mother Gloria donated one of her kidneys to Adam!

It's good to see two good buddies together again...as they did everything together when they were babies. We found out that Adam and his mom have moved to Palm Springs...so they will be coming out for visits pretty soon.

Loma Linda, eh? Back about the time Holly was receiving her transplant, my place of employment was supplying Loma Linda with the proton accelerator they use for cancer treatment at their Proton Treatment Center. When I heard what the SCR9 auction was going to benefit this year I knew I had to do something, especially after losing my child. So I dug out the 2 Nickey catalogs I bought new and brought them. They couldn't have gone to a better cause.

Great story and update..very touching! I have a good friend who is the longest surving Bone Marrow Recipient in Canada. He was #6 in 1980 to receive a doner marrow. By the time he was relesed from Hosp (after 6 months) the other recipients had passed away. 26 years later he is doing fine. Look forward to hearing about Holly 26 years from now.

Hey Paul...sorry for the late reply. That is amazing. Speaking of bone marrow donors/recipients...at one point when Holly had an extended hospital stay at Childrens Hospital Orange County (CHOC)we were able to meet and talk with Rod Carew (baseball player) because his daughter desperately needed a bone marrow transplant. She got one but ended up passing a while later...

Also, every year at Christmas I take some of the Harley-Davidson teddy bears to Phoenix Children's Hospital...to the pediatric cancer ward for the kids spending Christmas there...I know what it feels like to spend a holiday in the hospital.
