Pure Stock Musclecar Drag Race
Next week is this race that started the trend of showcars racing like they were meant to be. Last year, there were over 130 cars from all brands, including a few Studebakers! To me, it's the best show going because it's like a car show where they race. Where else are you going to see A12 cars going against Yenko Camaros? But don't fret, blue-collar guys, as there's plenty of 383 and 340 cars to keep the event down to earth. Held in Stanton, MI, not far from Lansing, you really have no excuse to not go - people come from Texas and New Hampshire, among other places. If you don't want to bring your car, just come up as a spectator. And if you come up, please stop by the tower and say hello to me!

Car is in AZ, where I am now. I haven't driven it in a year. I need to buy a new battery so I should be able to get the cobwebs out of it before Friday.

First event I went to was in 1989/1990 under the name of National Muscle Car Association run by Chuch Green. Quite an event. VERY FEW got into th 12's and the year I went Dan Jensen's T-37 won the 'big block' catagory. Have some great pictures of it and his car.

It's happening *this weekend* folks, Friday 9-5 and Saturday 8-5...I encourage everyone to attend and behold the spectacle yourself, whether you bring a car or not...it's literally a car show in motion! I know a 1/2 dozen or so of us from the site will be there beating on our cars, but it would be a short trip for you northern IL/IN/OH folks...I guarntee it will be worth it!

The wife and myself went to the show/race.Truly unbelievable and beyond show winning cars.This is my second favorite car after a Nova.

Mid 60's Cutlass vs. 69 Chevelle.I thought Al Galdi (Alss) came to play,but it wasn't Al.The Chevelle was every bit as nice as Al's though.

Thanks for the pics. I took a few and will add them later. This is my 2nd time there and can say that this is the best car show I've ever been to. Will only get better from here. Great pics, thanks. Was honored to even be matched against an LS-6 with my Olds 350. Not so funny when he cranked out a 13.47 against our qualifying time of 14.216(I ran a 14.22)Knew something was up when I treed him and be ran away in 1st gear. Ran him out the back door just in case he was an old bracket racer, but think he was as surprised (and thrilled) as anyone. Match was over with his big DQ breakout, but decided to go again in a hare and hound with me leaving first for grins, Couldn't get them to handicap the tree for a closer race. Jumped the light, ran another 14.22, but so did he when he went up in smoke. Never got close to me and won by .519, so a little honor restored. Great time and better every year. Everybody complaining about Tom Shaw's butt in all the pics. Stands were packed on the pit side and lots more on the spectator side. What a show! |

Great photos Kendall, had a geat time as always, my judge ran better than i thought it would, darn near brake the scale at 4160lbs, and still ran 14:40 at 96mph. these ac 70 gtos are hefty, looks like rusty has some compitition with his hurst, i saw the one at the track click off a 13:30 i am not sure if he bettered that time by days end. it was great to talk to some of you guys in person for a change.
