VERY cool car! South Side of Chicago car to boot! See the attachment for a dealer decal from that dealership. It was on a 70 Nova that is local to me.

Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
------Lisle Ill. ??? Kind of makes you wonder why he didnt buy it from "Jack Douglas Chevrolet" doesnt it???........Bill S
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
I wondered the same thing Bill. I can only guess that the original owner either knew someone at Circle or they just happened to have this rare car in thier inventory so he bought it there.

Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
I believe that one belongs to a guy who hangs out on the board here, Harold Metz? Maybe that is why my 71' LS6 only went to 95-100K at Carlisle Saturday. From what I've been told, it's one heck of a car.

Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
I thought the LS6 was only avail in 1970? And I thought there was only 2 vettes with that option and only 1 is known today.pleas correct me if im wrong.im not up on the vettes. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
You might be thinking of the two 69 ZL1 vettes built
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
The '71 Corvette offered the LS6 option, there were 188 built and they included aluminum heads. Complete different option than the LS6 Chevelle option from 1970. More than a bit confusing.

[/ QUOTE ] Were all the `71 LS6 Vette's aluminum headed? I thought there were 188 iron headed ones and then about 12 aluminum headed ones for a total of about 200. Rick |
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
-------No, Rick,,,All 188 of them had aluminum heads. There were a few automatics as well as M21s and M22s. As well, there were a few ZR2s which had even more similarities to an L88. If you wanted the baddest 71 Corvette you could get, you ordered LS6 and ZR2 along with a few other HD options. I think you had to order them both, but Warren would know for sure!!! The silver LS6 I owned while I lived in Chicago had 355s and was good for 160mph easily. What a top end machine that was.........Bill S

Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
Bill, that car may be here in Austin now. It is an original car (not restored). If it's the same one, it was owned by Richard Tisdale of the 50 fastest collection fame. Now owned by Pat Sullivan.
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
------Tim,,,The last I heard Warren knew that my old car was in California for sale by "Corvette Lady" I think??? It was an M21, Nevada silver/black vinyl T-top with 3:55s as stated. A wonderful time capsule when I had it as virtually nothing had been changed except for smog removal. Long time owner No. 2 before me (B. Hildebrandt) brought the car out of Atlanta area to Chicago. Owner after me replaced smog and put correct original tires on. Car at that time had, I think, low 30s mileage. I even know who ordered the car new but couldnt afford to buy it when it came in new to the dealer.........Bill S

Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
Bill, I believe it's the same car. It was at the Waco Regional the past two years. He purchased it and a blue automatic LS6 as a pair. Certainly a wonderful car.

I thought I would keep this car forever but, I put money down on mobile home park that is going to make alot of money from day 1. So, with my holding a clear title, in my name on this car I just figured this would be the way to go. I think your car would have done better at Carlisle if there was a larger group of "good" cars that would have drawn the heavy hitters to the auction. The people that I spoke to, felt there was nothing there and spent the afternoon near the coolers.I think you would do better at St. Charles where there is a draw. Warren must have taken the long way home or he would be educating us on the LS6 questions. The last I spoke to him there were 74 of the original 188 cars accounted for. |
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
Harold, I spoke with Warren at Carlisle while we waited for my car to run through the tent. The total # of located LS6 cars, after the weekend, has now grown to 86 or so, I think a couple of them were verified as destroyed though.

Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
------Tim,,,I looked up the serial # of the LS6 I owned. Build sequence numbers are 17357. I have always tried to keep tabs on that old car as it was so special. Hope the car pictured is the same one........Bill S
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
I left a voice mail for the owner asking him if this is the ID number. Hope it's your old car.
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
------Thanks, Tim! I dont care what they say about you,,,you're OK!!! Hope to see you at Vettefest this fall........Bill S
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
I'll be there, haven't heard back from the owner of the LS6. He may be out of town. I notice that the Vettefest site has me as the owner of the 2,200 mile L88. The owner called me and said that me being the owner can be arranged. Actually, it is owned by Bruce & Paul, members of this site.
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
Bill, you'll be glad to know that the silver LS6 coupe here in Austin is #17357, the one in the picture above. It's got a good home next to the blue LS6.
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
-------Very COOL!!!! Bob Zimmerman (Stretch) will be happy to hear this as well.....Thanks, Tim!!!.........Bill S
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
Talked to Stretch quite a bit at Bloomington, he and Terry told some old war stories about the maroon L89 automatic in the Special Collection.
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
------Stretch loved that car as much as I did and when I reluctantly decided to sell it he stepped up to the plate. It was he that put the smog back on and got a gold with the car. The year before I had a later leather-wrapped wheel on it that I loved and chrome valve-covers along with Radial TAs and the missing smog, and Carl Strohm bounced me out of gold to a silver. I really didnt care because I liked the car so much just the way it was, but Stretch wanted it original since it was so close anyway.
------I called Stretch after your post this afternoon and he remembered you and Terry, and said to say HI!!!........Bill S |
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
Hey guys! I just took a sloooooowwww plane back home, didn't get in until 3:09 am Tuesday from Carlisle. We now have 89 known/verified '71 LS6 'vettes. Some have been wrecked. Would like to get in touch with Patrick Sullivan, and find out the Bridgehampton blue LS6's vin, may or may not have it. Bills former Nevada silver LS6 was sold new at Mendenhall Chevy in Atlanta, GA. The car was in Mill Valley, California and for sale when I looked at it in 2000. Price then was $75K. |
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
I can get the number of the blue LS6, they were both purchased through Roy Sinor and belonged to Dr. (can't remember his name). The blue LS6 is a restored automatic.
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
Dr. Hans Norberg.
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
--------Tim,,,Has that doctor checked his wallett pocket since the purchase???........Bill S
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
I think Hans Norberg died several years ago.
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
Yes, Hans passed away a number of years ago...he was a super nice guy and helped me with my first attempt at being an "OJ" in the mid 90's. He and John Woods were two of the best involved with the 70-72's...
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
That's correct, Dr. Hans Norberg.
|
Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
The owner of the two Dr. Hans Norberg LS6 Corvettes was over evening and the blue one is ID 12761. Very nice, restored car. It was shown a number of times with the bare chassis.

Re: '71 LS6 Corvette on Ebay
Tim,
Thanks for the vin. I did have it in the survey/registry. Have had great luck of late in locating several new cars. We are currently at 86 known/verified cars. Breakdown is 51 coupes and 35 convertibles. Majority are M22's with 14 M40 automatics and 13 M21 manuals. Please keep me informed of any LS6's you guys run across. This survey/information I have kept has helped a couple of potential buyers with their purchases. Thanks |
